Hey all,

I went into Eltham Autobarn the other day got chatting to the audio guy, anyhow long story short i was enquiring as to how i can best eliminate the rattle:

A) From My Boot *note that i have foam under rear plate to stop that from rattling
B) Rear Parcel Shelf
C) The Front Doors

The current system i have is just your standard sub, 6x9 + front 6 inch speakers and amp.

I had it professionally installed, and the controlls on the amp set to the optimal levels (so i was told)

What was suggested to me was to buy a can of filler and spary into any gaps or hollow bits i can find to help eliminate the problem. I firstly dont have a clue on what i could do anyhelp would be appreciated

Sound deaden your front doors and that will eliminate all rattles if done properly.

You can deaden your boot as well, but what is the actual problem that you are having? Locate anything and everything that is rattling and then attend to it.

What is rattling on your parcel shelf? In my car the screws going into where the 6x9 used to be were rattling with the sub so i put silicone over the screws... a little dodgy but it stopped!

I deaden my bootlid with FlashTac, that you can find at your local Bunnings or Mitre10. Does the job. :)

hey mate it sounds a bit dodgy but i went to my local car audio place and he told me to get some double sided sticky tape, roll it into a little roll (eg. 5mmx15mm and 3mm thick) and stick it inwherever theres a rattle. So turn it up and listen for that rattle and get the tape ready.
haha
worked for me :D
I found mine rattled just under the number plate and the spoiler . Havent done anything about the parcel shelf though. Better and more professional alternative is deadening of course but it worked for me :)

Where abouts did you put it ?

I have the same problem but on the passenger side. But when I put the window down a little bit the rattle dissapears. I even tried putting foam (from the box which had my speakers in it :p) between the door and panel which worked a bit but not much.

Basically, you stick it wherever theres a gap which would result in some rattling...e.g. under the number plate and in between the plastic bit of the spoiler and the rear window

But hey if you turn it up loud enough, you wont hear no rattling yourself !(Just remember that there are other people in the world that have ears and the 5th sense of hearing as well :D )

i had the same problem in my hatch. when i did my respray i moved the metal loop that the latch hooks onto in a bit further so the whole hatch shuts firmer and that did an awesome amount of rattle elimination from my two 12" subs.
just loosen the bolts very minorly until its loose enough to slightly tap the latch in a tiny bit at a time until you are satisfied with the result and the gap for the panels isnt too out of proportion

what rattles in your doors? the windows? close them. As for the parcel tray, whats shaking it? The sub? Put a whole in the parcel tray and carpet it so the air flows right through it. Should minimize the shaking/rattling.

the only disadvantage with sound deadening though is the very obvious weight gain once installed in the car. proper sound deadening is heavy especially once everything is done to the extent that the majority of rattle is lost. i guess it all comes down to what purpose the car is for.
if you are after a sound system all the way go for the deadening but if u want the car to perform as well the deadening isnt the best option due to the amount of overall weight it will add to the car on top of the stereo gear itself

but it all depends on how much sound deadening you apply... just don't overkill it, not too heavy not too light, just right :p it shouldn't add to too much weight gain, after all you as the driver are adding weight to the car, so keep that in mind too :p

very true. but dont get that previous post mixed up with the breakfast cereal coz if u put that in your tailgate it wont do anything for the rattle :p
sound deadening like u say though shouldnt be too heavy just make sure you isolate the rattles before u go deadening everything to save on unnecessary extra's

very true!!! but this is where you can do the internal of your engine up hahehaehah than it would be A OK heaheha, but seriously yeah it add alot of weight!!! my total system with sound deaden in adds 70kg

hahaha thats just like putting a turbo on so you have enough power to haul your stereo around.
i think best bet is to go with the most minor things 1st. i was honestly satisfied with just tightening in the boot latch to deaden the majority of rattle. if the smaller things dont do as good of a job as you want then gradually keep building it up until you are happy with it.
