Aim: positive pressure in the intake system
Tools: Lots of tools, to many to list, good tool box.

pre Turbo

STEP 1: Remove Front bumper, then remove front splash cover.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture005.jpg

STEP 2: Jack car up securely, unclip oxygen sensor, remove exhaust down pipe, remove exhaust manifold shroud and exhaust manifold.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture007.jpg

STEP 3: Remove condensor fan, and radiator overflow bottle, also remove radiator top mounting bracket.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture008.jpg

STEP 4: Lift radiator out of the way, there is no need to disconnect the top or bottom hoses. Lift turbo and manifold up into the engine bay from the under side of the engine. (more room)

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture011.jpg

STEP 5: Tention down the manifold to spec and in sequence. Place radiator back into place, resecure top radiator top mount. Route turbo oil feed line to the rear of the block near oil filter, remove the oil pressure switch. Install a T piece, connect the turbo oil feed line. Install the oil pressure switch/sensor. (use thread tape)

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture020.jpg

STEP: 6 Remove intake tubing from throttle body, remove intake, remove the airbox, then remove the big ass resonator from under the RH fron head light, Undo the clamps that the red arrows point to, 1 tube to roccer cover. 2 coolant pipe to under throttle body 3 coolant pipe to head. (coolant flows between the two 2-3) .

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture050.jpg

STEP 7: Connect 8mm tubing to the turbo cooling lines (red arrows) and route them back to the clapms you undid above. undo the coolant tines one at a time and connect turbo lines in there place. Drain the engine oil and remove the sump. Time to connect the turbo oil return pipe to the sump (yellow arrow)

STEP 8: Drill a hole in the sump in the desired location to the diameter to the brass sleeve.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture052.jpg

STEP 9: Weld the brass sleeve to the sump. Big thanks to Bill from A1 Mobile Radiators for his onsite welding.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture057.jpg

STEP 10: Refit the sump, connect the turbo oil return line to sump. Connect the downpipe, and refit the O2 sensor, reconnect the rest of the exhaust up.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture063.jpg

STEP 11: Fit intercooler

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture029.jpg

STEP 12: Connect turbo plumbing, In this case we have used rubber hosing, until proper tubing is custom made to also include the BOV.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture074.jpg

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture044.jpg

Don't forget the IAT sensor

STEP 13: Cut the block

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture031.jpg

STEP 14: Install the air filter tubing. Run a tube from the roccer to the air filter tube.

STEP 15: Time to fit the electronic boost controller (GReddy). I mounted the actuator solenoid near the starter motor, below the dizzy, (look at the red arrows.) Ran the vacuum lines back to the turbo.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture109.jpg

STEP 16: Fit the manifold pressure sensor (MAP) for the boost controller on the fire wall and tap into the fuel pressure regulator.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture034.jpg

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture033.jpg

STEP 17: Route wires back to the under dash area. Wire up Greddy to power, earth, and tacho. Connect pressure sensor and solenoid.

http://ecu-man.com/diy/em1-t/1329Picture041.jpg

STEP 18: Change the Oil filter and refill Engine Oil

Run the car till it reaches operating temp, check for oil and coolant leaks. Thats pretty much it for now. Soon I will be installing RC 550 cc injectors, and fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump. After the intake rubber piping has been replaced and the BOV installed the car is off for a tune on the DYNO.

That is excellent stuff buddy.

How hard is it putting on a turbo to my Generation 2 Crx?? (D16a8)

If only it was that easy! If I were to buy a Turbo kit from the US and do it myself that would be a dream. But it just seems to impossible.

hhhmmm

[stealth]
14-05-2005, 11:52 AM
if its a kit.. should be straight foward... come down to SA then... if u ever get a kit..

:)

ECU-MAN
14-05-2005, 12:38 PM
it took me about 12 to 13 hours, a bit of that time was just standing around talking with friends :).

CRXONE
Turbo kits are usually straight forward as there ment to fit the car, custom Jobs would take a bit longer to install, as you have to measure and fabricate a few more of the parts. with your crx you should be able keep your aircon witha good kit.
like [stealth] says, bring it to SA :)

Im expecting at least 150KW, but should be able to do 150 +, depending on how much boost the owner wants to run

ProECU is scheduled for release later this year, however tuning software will only be available to selected tuning shops.
Dyno Dave will be picking up the rights in sydney later this year.
You can have ur car tuned there.

This car is running a GT28. Kinda small for this car, but a good tune will net clost to 250hp @ wheels conservatively.
If the owner wishes to increase the boost, we'll see where this beast goes..

Sweet as man

Was looking at Microtech (Dyno Dave) to do any turning anyway

I wish NRMA would insure turbo’s but alas they don’t so upgrading Cams and springs is my only option but that with a PROECU should put out some OK KW
I’m hoping for VTIR power range

Date set yet for release?

Thx LukeZen

this car made an apperance at SA Autosalon today, On the Dyno shootout it put out

168.4kw @144 km/h 8psi boost
539Nm Tractive force

the car has has some updates since this original thread
like

high volume fuel pump
AEI fuel rail
AEI fuel pressure Regulator
RC 550cc injectors
ITR shifter
earth kit
oil catch can

as for engine managment the car is runnig a OBD1 P28 ECU with RTP tuned by Evan at PROECU at Graham West Automotive with Brett behind the Wheel

here is a current pic of the engine bayhttp://b16a2.kicks-ass.net/pics/EM1-bay.jpg

im boosting a d15 and i was wondering if i need to buy a new fmu or fuel rail or injectors if i dont will i detonate my engine?

ECU-MAN
21-09-2005, 11:11 PM
stock fule rail and Fuel Reg should be sufficitant, but i do recomend you get bigger injectors as your stock ones will max out on the duty % NA there in the high %80, not much left in them once you boost.

wynode
21-09-2005, 11:35 PM
will around 5-6psi be ok with the stock injectors ?

this thing has a stock bottom end, head had had minor work, like type R cams, and sprinfs retainers etc.

no shottage of oil pressure or oil supply to the engine, and

as for the earth leads, I have no dyno proof to say "yeah extra xxxKWs" but im sure it makes some king of difference.

What type of hose did you use to temp. connect the intercooler to the throttle body etc? :)

hey mate, do u know where to get a turbo kit for a 94 VTi and if so how much it costs?

how much will it all cost?

superR
06-10-2005, 08:34 PM
i got a good question for you.... how did you connect up your exhaust once the turbo was installed??

ECU-MAN
06-10-2005, 09:17 PM
the dump pipe lined up perfectly with the cat, only problem was it was 1 to 2 cm to far, so there was a gap, so I got lots of flange gaskets and long bolts and used the gaskets to make the gap. was a bit ghetto but did the job till the owner could get it to an exhaust place.

wynode
07-10-2005, 12:58 AM
So bolted up to the stock system fine yeah (apart from the gap) ?

superR
07-10-2005, 08:48 AM
suppose it came so close cause it was a ready designed kit.

ECU-MAN
07-10-2005, 10:35 AM
yeah thats it, it was a kit.

Trust-Me
07-10-2005, 11:11 AM
It would of been a perfect fit, but i had my exhaust modded for the Trust exhaust piping, asTrust exhausts only came out for EK9.
