I got brass button in my vtiR
The brass button, grips on the fly like crazy, but it does wear out the fly if you dont drive it properly. On launches, if you let go of it too quick it will bite in hard on the fly and you will definately feel it when it engages.
If your a bad drive, the brass button may also screw up your crank, gear box and any thing that is indirectly connected to the thing.
I would suggest you choose your clutch properly, ask around with those who have use brass buttons, twin plates and the alike before installing it.
My brass button, sqreeches on 1st gear when starting at stand still.
Good luck

I would personally go for something else rather than brass button. But mines already in so, what the hell.
Go for kevlar or something organic which will handle the output of the engine as well as being suitable for everyday driving. :)

agree with you Boost
unless your runnin 200+ hp, i wouldn't go for a brass button

according to my folks when they drive my car, they can't tell any difference (it feels like a standard clutch)

but when i take the car out, can chirp it up into 3rd no probs :)

I think you should firstly ask yourself what power you will ultimately be chasing.... do you drive it daily?... what is the purpose of your car?
Drag Queen? Road Terror? Track Warrior?

Im using a 6 puck sprung clutch and heavy arse pressure plate which handles about 400 horse from clutch specialties in the U.s.

fueltank:
Power I am chasing is not far from stock, just doing the basic I/H/E mods.
It's a daily driver, no drag or track.
I'm leaning towards the organic like poid, maybe I should just wait until he tries it out and see how he goes :)
Poid, how much are you getting it for btw ?

hehe i might be trying it out sooner than i thought, the stock clutch is just about totally gone, could barely get the car onto a wooden block last night to jack it up the clutch was slipping so much. :)

As for price, i'm getting it at trade price so i'm not supposed to say. But i reckon you could get it for $500 or less depending on whether the prices are different for different cars

i think if your not planing to have any serious mods to put out serious HPs then there is really no point in getting a new heavy duty clutch, unless yours is dead and needs to be replaced. If you need to replace it then get something that is organic or kevlar is good. Something that you can drive everyday. Brass button is heavy on the foot and is not really suited for on road every day driving.

I'd suggest a HyperSingle but if you're just going for basic I/H/E mods, it might be overkill.

I know a turbo DC2R with the hypersingle and it doesn't slip at all.

try the exedy Type-S clutch.
then later on, after you save up some $$$ you can get a TODA lightweight flywheel put in.

soul4real

I think the Hyper would probably be overkill, most places on the net that I've read about them say they are for moderately modified engines. Would you say I/H/E is moderately modified ? I think I will just go for the organic, the power output would not be far from stock.

I've never driven a car with a hyper but I've pushed down on the pedal when it was turned off. Felt pretty heavy, it just wanted to push your foot back up.

I reckon go the Type-S or Type-R exedy clutch. Prolly around $700 installed.

Are you going to go a lightweight flywheel at the same time?

damn, that's cheap!

mine cost about 800 all up. and that's for rebuilding standard clutch, not for a new clutch

soul4real

If I can get it all under $1000 then I will.
Going to have to get some prices.

fueltank
30-01-2004, 08:53 AM
I think Type-S is around $500, I'm not sure if my mate quoted me trade price or not though.
And labour costs should be 2-300 everywhere.

soul4real
30-01-2004, 09:51 AM
Yea labour sounds about right, 2-300 would be a days work right ?
I just gotta see how much I can get the clutch kit for and whether it comes with a lightened flywheel or not. I remember z10 telling me he can get the hyper for $1400, he never got back to me about the price of organic.

i've got the OEM piece of shit in my car...

still going ok, so won't change it... but i want to get something along the lines of a 5puck button clutch (exact terms not known)?

anyway, drove an evo6 with one and feels good (not too hard to use, but nice and direct).
