Hi All does anyone out there know where the location of the ECU unit is in my 88 tega (Rover 416i Vitesse)?
And does anyone have any recomendations for new suspension struts front and rear for me vehicle or spares lying around?

hmm, they're usually mounted in the kickpanel on the passenger seat side.. under the glovebox sorta..

So I've put my back out, trying to see under the dash for nothing?

probably!
the only reason i think it IS under the seat is because i recall that it was a stupid place to put it as if water got in the car, it would soak the ECU...
but yeah, pretty sure it was that model... they moved it under the dash after that one!!!

I will hobble out and take a look and let ya all know how it went!

the 86 Tegs had it under the passangers seat, I think they moved it to under the floor under the glovebox for the 88's, pull the carpet back you should see a big steel plate.
also if you dont want to go genuin. Monroe Shockers are ok.

Passenger seat? I dont know about that. My old 86 Integra's ECU was under my driver seat hidden under a stingey lil plastic box.

Ok Passengers seat has the Central Locking under it. The drivers seat has a big plastic box which takes up most of the space under the drivers under the plastic box is a metal type of box which i presume is the ECU, and I think I have to take the drivers seat out to get to it.
Can anyone confirm for me if this is the ECU under the drivers seat and, and if it has a led display to read the error codes, or will i have to set a jumper to read the EMD in the dash?
Thank you all as this has helped untold amounts already and is saving me around 80 clams already!

well passanger seat could be wrong ( its been a while ) but if you got the plastic lump under your drivers seat then thats it. from the back seat there should be a little plastic door you open and in there is the window where you see the LED in the ECU, turn on your Ignition, and read out the codes.
and you integra would not have a service connector, its all in the LED

there should be a clear window on the ecu that flashes the code, it is about the size of a 10c piece
no need to jumper the OBD0 ecu as it will always show the codes on the flashing LED with the ignition switched to 'on'...
but i cant seem to find anything on the 'net to confirm this...

From my personal experience, which is still pretty fresh. The box under the driver seat can only be removed by taking out the driver seat itself than undoing 3 screws holding that lil box down. There was no sort of window on the box and im pretty sure there isnt... but that was my 86!
But if you curious about something.. take your car apart and find out for yourself, u learn the quickest that way!

Sorry if I have confused everybody.
Tink it is a Rover 416i Vitesse
Chassis plate (Blue plate near the front drivers light reads); Honda Motor Company, Vin letters are JHMDA then numbers, Engine is D16A3; Build Date-6/88, DA1 (what ever that means)
Compliance plate on the Passengers front shock housing has 8/88 as the manufactures date, Rover 416i manufactured by JRA LTD.
Formula Honda(local) says the only difference between this car and the Honda Integra's is electricals for the Power windows, the interior, and the 4 doors, the rest is all Honda and it has a Black rocker cover with HONDA stamped on it if this is any help.
Will check out the box under drivers seat in the morning but hope this info helps Tink.
Thank you all

Right'o then.
Found the 10c piece sized LED display.
Turned the ignition to Acc. nothing.
Turned the ignition to On nothing from the LED display.
Is this a good sign or bad?
I read somwhere (on OZHONDA or somewhere else) that the RED L.E.D should display a red flash once to say the ECU has power, If no flashes after this then there are no error codes.
If the display flashes after the power test flash then there are error codes.
I read that "Zero" Error Code = Faulty ECU
:)

if you car starts and drives normally and you are not using excessive fuel, then you probably do not have a faulty ECU...
dumb, Q but were you looking at the LED when you turned the key, it only flashes for a fraction of a second, it is also 'inside' the box, so you need to look directly through the window to see it...
not from an angle...

No I was looking through it on an angle looks like the drivers seat is coming out!
 Tinker ya champ

seat should just be 4 bolts - i told you they changed the ECU position after this model - for VERY good reasons :)
glad to help you BTW...

So I got the seat out got the cover off the ECU unbolted, turned the ignition to "On", no LED light through the view window.
Took the cover off of the ECU did the ignition again, and no light at all again.
The label on the ECU next to the LED window has the numbers
37820-PG7-6131
4 211-101969
the date on the ECU is 88-04-04
On the ECU's top cover there is written MC569
Could the L.E.D. be burnt out?
Is it too hard to resolder another LED in its place?
Is it better that i take it to a Honda dealer and let them fix it?
Does anyone have any suggestions of what ECU I could replace this with or would i be best getting another PG7-ECU unit?
Thanx for the help so far everyone!

if you want to test your LED on your ECU then you could force a fault code. with the engine NOT running and Ignition off, disconnect the Throttle postion sensor, then start the car, in no time the PGMFI light will ocme on the dash. then your LED will most defanantly be blinking. turn the ignition right off, plug the sensor back in and and disconnect your battery for 30 seconds or so. then your ecu will be reset.
if there is nuthng from your ecu led and your pgmfi light isnt on, there is no problem

can i just ask why you are looking for the codes - do you think there is a problem?
yes - as simple as resoldering the LED on the circuit board, but it has been a long time since i have ever seen a LED "burn-out" ie never...
a PG7 is rare, but not un-obtainable...
try to trigger the code like ECU-MAN says, this *should* show a check engine light on the dash and make the LED blink...

Tink the car pass a poping sound coming form the rear of the exhaust, and wont idle properly. I have done Major service to engine without changing the leads, which is about the only thing that was not done.
I have disconected the battery and removed the 15amp and 7.5 amp fuses to hopefully reset the ECU.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to drive the car once I connect everything up again.
I read that you should start the car without touching the accelerator, and let it Idle for about 10 minutes turn the car off.
I dont know for how long I should let the car sit after that, if at all.
Some people have said to me give it a flogging for 3 short drives or so, but turn engine off after each drive, and some have said give it to the missus to drive for 50K or so, then take then helm and it should be right.
Was wondering if all you ppl's on here had any ideas of what should be done?

nah - the old school ECU's dont 'learn' like that
there are no "long term fuel trims" or similar things to watch, jsut drive normally
the pop is probably just be back fire due to leaky injector/s
probably could do with a clean out - try Winn's or Nulon 'injector cleaner' first, but this rarely does a 100% job.
a full injector 'bench clean' is about $35 each, plus injector removal labour (or DIY)
make sure you replace the injector o-rings afterwards, about $4 each from honda!
