'96 EK sedan 1.6 (D16Y4 - non vtec) efi running Shell Optimax/BP Ultimate/ Caltex Vortex Gold. Usually depends on how aggressive I drive.


City: Average about 450-480 for city driving before I fill up. Best was ~500kms, worst was 400kms.

Highway: Usually average around 550-600 kms before I fill up. Best was over 650kms, worst was about 550km.

Keeping in mind I've got 17s with 205/45/Zr17 rubber, so rolling resistance and therefore fuel consumption is higher. If I ran stock wheels/tyres I'd probably get 550km for city and about 700km for highway.

I'm about to fit a K&N panel filter - it'll be interesting to see if this makes much difference, if at all.

The concentration of actetone is obviously the key. The tank that i got the best results (when using optimax and acetone) was 85ml in a 35L fill. And i did notice a decent improvement. My driving habits remained the same as i was comuting to work with all tanks ( 60 round trip a day freeway and city).

No reserve tank to my knowledge, but that's not really what you're asking, is it?
It will say in your manual how many litres you have left when the fuel light comes on. In my '84 Civic, it had 9L left when it hit empty. I think my VTi is a bit less. But I'd say you'd be safe for another 50km at least in most Hondas.

And the higher octane fuel lasts longer 'cos it's more efficient.

Hey, I thought I might just revive this thread instead of starting a new one.

I got the same car as G3NX but for some reason I'm only getting like 200-300km's outta the tank (depending on my driving but its 300 MAX it'll get outta the tank)!!!!!! I use ultimate only as well....

I do know that I sometimes can smell fuel in the car... a few people have noticed it as well.... sometimes its a very faint smell... and sometimes its a very STRONG smell....

Anyone know what could be wrong? Fuel leak? What should I do ? Take it to honda??! or a mechanic??? I dunno?? help!!:cool:



p.s. i saw in this thread someone said "i use vtec cos my car is slow" so how do you know when your vtec has "kicked in" ????

yeh ur car may be rich, or ur tyre pressure might be a bit low too.
