just completed b16a2 into eg
when i start the car it idles at around 3500rpm and rising
i swapped the map sensor loom and the tps loom over and it idles at 2500rpm
it is limping the codes are 7 and 41 meaning o2 and tps
i cant seem to rectify this
any help from anyone here would be great

can you answer some quartions for me
what type of O2 sensor you got
a 4 wire one or a two wire one.
what type of engine and ecu you using, OBD0 or OBD1
can you tell me what colour the three wires are on the MAP sensor ( in there order )
I helped with swap I can answer some stuff why hes offline.
Engine = B16a2 out of an AUDM CRX (Del Sol)
ECU = OBD1 Im pretty sure, also running a VAFCII. Possible conflicts with sensor wires running to VAFC and not ECU.

ok so if it was out of a pre 96 you got a OBDI ecu and engine, if you used the O2 sensoe that came with the engine its a 4 wire O2, and its heater wire may posibly not be wired back to the ecu, probably because your ecu to engine loom never had the ability for it in the 1st place as your EG had a single wire O2.
also if your willing, rip the VACF out and go back to stock, then one you have sorted alll the problems then put it back in. ( must eliminate it as being the cause. )
also . how much of the CRX wiring loom did you use

unless things are different on your side of the world, b16a2 is obd2 with the b16a3 being obd1

B16A2 can be OBDI and OBDII

out here, the B16a3 came in the 94-95 del sol VTEC(OBD1) and the B16a2 came in the 96-97 del sol VTEC and the 99-00 Civic Si
in the european market, the 93-95 del sol VTi also uses the B16a3 and the 96-97 VTi uses the B16a2

here 92-95 CRX is DOHC B16a2 OBDI VTiR
96-98 CRX is DOHC B16a2 OBDII VTiR
we never got hte B16A3 here

ok there is your code 41 issue your ecu thinks you got a O2 heater but you only have a O2 single wire with no heater
3 options
1 wire and add a 4 wire o2 sensor
2 add a 10k ohm resistor to trick the ECU
3 send me your ECU ill disable the O2 heater in the ECU for you

well if you ecu is trigered to limp mode, probably from code 7 (TPS ) then the engine will rev high at idle. you need to fix the TPS and heater 1st then see if the high idle goes away.
how good are you with a digital multi meter ??

OK, then check/adjust the TPS to read ~0.45V at closed and ~4.5V at full open
you should work out which is the sensor feed by trial/error
ingnition needs to be on to perform the test.

ok update is i removed the vafc2 and wired the vtec oil press, changed the 1 wire o2 over to a 4 wire o2, set the tps sensor and the iac valve still idling at 4krpm if i remove the tps sensor i get limp mode idle at 1500rpm
i did notice a main vacuum hose from the top front of the plenum goes under the plenum to nothing tried blocking it and idle dropped around 100-200rpm
really considering stirpping my car and burning it!!
any help!!!

you have a MAJOR vacuum leak, it is like having the throttle open.
block the hose you found that was open, plug in the TPS & start again.
also block any other 'open' vacuum hoses...

BTW - i think the hose could be for the PCV system...

you have to test the TP sensor, to make sure its ok, and get rid of the TPS code.
Your TPS has a 3 pin connector just like the MAP, make sure you havnt mixed up the two connectors
the TPS has the following colour order for it wires ( from Left to right )
1. Green 2. Red 3. Yellow
the MAP has the following colour order for it wires ( from Left to right )
1. Yellow 2. Green 3. Red
the above wires may have a secondry colour strip on them.
Test the TPS
Test 1
get your DMM and set it to the 20v DC range, or if its auto ranging set it to DC V
connect the black lead to green ( fist ) ,
connect the Red lead to the yellow wire ( third ) of the TPS sensor.
turn on your ignition to the II position, Do not start the car.
you should have 5v
Test 2
connect the black lead to Ground, - terminal of the battery or body of car.
connect the Red lead to the red wire ( middle ) of the TPS sensor.
turn on your ignition to the II position, Do not start the car.
at closed throttle you should have 0.5v and as you open the throttle the voltage should increase until you get to full throttle the voltage should be 4.5v
its best if you have a wave form viewer, there should be no clitches in the wave from closed to open throttle

hmm the TPS was OK.. we tested the TPS with Volt-meter.. even removed the TB with TPS to ensure that TPS was in it's saddle correctly etc. it actually read the correct voltage just when it was in senor and moving the switch - not even wired to the loom etc.
So as far as I could tell TPS was fine. we testd it on his old D-series TPS also to ensure the B-series item was operational in the same way.
had to be effected by something else.. I'd say wiring from the TPS to the ECU.. doesnt the VAFC have a value for Throttle Position ? maybe THAT is interfearing.
As for the High Idle - it is NOT in limp mode as I unplugged the MAP sensor to trigger a limp-mode.. u can tell the difference.
I thought that the IACV and TPS may have plugs around the wrong way, tried that, and then just got a code for IACV and TPS..
the Idle-Speed screw was wound out all the way - we could only RAISE the idle via the screw :(
With the throttle closed the only way it can have enough air to rev that high would be from the IACV or a Vaccum-Leak.. or both.
is not throwing any codes for the IACV though and the O2 sensor shouldnt make it idle that high.
I think Simon should try hard-wiring the TPS directly to the ECU and see what happens.
as for OBD, there's a chance this one was OBD2a and converted to OBD1 by swapping the plugs.. as there was a couple of extra unused sensors etc.. not 100% sure tho.

do you have a Vtec pressure Switch, if so its OBDI, if not its a OBDII. also if the IAT is in the intake tube and not in the inlet manifold its OBDII engine.

i changed the o ring on the iac valve and revs dropped to 3000rpm so must be the iac is still little bit dirty or just needs replacing
also i put more tourque on the plenum chanber mounting bolts still same thing hmmm?
I THINK the IACV from the D is compatible.. see if THAT one works..
over-torquing the plenum chamber bolts will just strip the thread from the alloy.. forget it !!
did you replace the gaskets on the IACV. and all other TB gskts when you serviced it ? I noticed the TPS gasket was damaged... that TPS gasket was like $20 from honda (!!!!).
I'll try un-plugging that vac-hose that goes down through the IM and see if that raises my idle.. if it doesnt, you have other problems..
get that fkn TPS sorted out and problems might dissapear.
did u try hard wiring the TPS to the ECU yet ?
Could this be ECU related? Have you tried wacking in another OBDI VTEC Ecu?

what you should do it test the TPS signal at the ecu
you will find the TPS at the third connector known as C on pin 11 (C11) the 6th on ein from the top left on the top row, should be a red/blue wire., if your votages are the same as when you tested it above 0.5v closed 4.5v full throttle then there is no need to rewire it.

Could we spray like a coloured compressed air into the engine bay and watch where it gets sucked in? Pin pointing the leak?
