Hey guys I have been trying for ages to find a carbon fibre bonnet for my 2nd generation integra but so far with no luck i do not want to bring it over from the states from a website company so can anyone suggest a company here in Australia that could get me one? cheers.

nope...

get one made from Matt Waterman Mostorsports Design from a mould of your bonnet and i will buy one too... (maybe!)

http://www.mwmd.com.au/Composites.htm

maybe a few other G2 guys could go in for a group buy...

imagine that - a full custom CF bonnet?

PS - why do you want one?

Custom ay...

Full CF ay...

Sounds pricey

Guys in the US pay around US$350 for a decent one, I hear most are just a fibreglass shell with a CF cover, and others have shoddy latches, requiring hood pins and such.

all we need are numbers...

i was qouted 400 for teh mould and 800 each bonnet for CF and 400 each bonnet for FG

So that's $400 for the mould of your bonnet, then $800 on top of that for a CF bonnet?

For a custom CF bonnet that fits like stock that price isn't bad at all.... anyone interested for DC2 Integra?

yes - 400 for reusable mould and 800 each for teh CF bonnets...

these were quoted over 18 months ago...

i am waiting to hear from Matt on his current price structure...

but teh more the merrier!!!

reasons i want a carbon bonnet are- they look damn tuff, I can get some custom venting for heat reduction and it would be good to lose a few kilos off the front of the car. I spoke to a guy over here in Adelaide who does custom carbon fibre for motorbikes racecars etc. he quoted me $2000 for the mould and then $1200 for each bonnet! thats a huge difference to yours tinkerbell, get me a hookup to your guy and ill get a mould done in a second!

$2000 is a lot.

I think you might want to try www.vivagarage.com
They sell me CF Bonnet for $1250 with air vent........

Can someone clarify whether CF bonnets (full CF or semi fibreglass/mix) are legal in NSW at all? Eg., legal/roadworthy with engineers cert, etc, or completely ILLEGAL? Tinkerbell?
I'd just like to know, as i've heard many conflicting stories.

Not legal and but engineerable

Not legal and but engineerable

I think what Mchook is trying to say to us all is that officially CF hoods are illegal , but can be passed at many engineers - and even overlooked by some police too. Its a certain risk - although all the same as using blue windscreen-washer globes....or "GROWING H-embelem" on the back of ur car.

IE....more useless rice ;)

It is possibe to obtain an engineer's certificate for a carbon fibre bonnet and other panels - not a problem if you have one painted though, which most people don't do, but hey....

If theres enough interest im willing to use my bonnet as a mould for a cf bonnet. Although at this point all i know is that the cost will be around the grand mark. But maybe cheaper the more people that want it.

This is a full dry cf bonnet though. If anyones interested i'll get more info about it...eg bonnet pins needed or latches, reinforced underneath or not.....

i'd be interested.
i believe they are legal in qld if there are no vents/intakes.
after seapking to a creative bodyworks, they confirmed this. the reason is if a hose blows it will come through the bonnet. but he also said that it depends on the cop you get, weather he wants you to get fined or doesn't care.

100% carbon fibre is illegal..well in vic anewayz...
but most carbon bonnets out there are fibreglass+carbon fibre...this is ok..
reason is cause carbon fibre bonnets are really fragile and easy to break..(more dangerous when you crash)..

crispy
17-11-2005, 06:57 PM
I thought it had something to do with the crumple zones of the full carbon fibre bonnets, rather than them being too fragile. I was under the impression that they are quite strong?

JRC
17-11-2005, 07:17 PM
I think its to do with the fact that metal and fibreglass crumple where as something like carbon fibre is more likely to fly off or fly into shards and injure somebody....as it is actually extremely strong

wkdteg

carbon fibre shatters... snaps off in other words
metal and fibreglass crumple... hence their illigality
