Well, I know a friend drives a current shape Legend, I will give him the ozhonda website, so he can join you with discussion.

I am sure after the sporty new legend hit oz shore, there will be a surge of Legend owners appear on this website. so need to be patient.

not an owner personally but a mate is lookin at buyin a 92/93 model to use as a base to build a VIP car. what are these cars like in terms or reliability and fuel consumption? also hows the insurance for them it would be pretty similiar to somethin like a commodore wouldnt it?

Reliability wise they are great, if you treat it properly it wont give you any grief. Ive had mine for some time now, only had to do the general service and wear and tear stuff.

Fuel consumption is ok as long as you dont hammer the accelerator everytime. It is a heavy car so itll take a bit more if you ride the accelerator all the time.

You can get between 400-500 kz out of a full tank if you treat it nicely.

Insurance wise, it depends on your age, When i first got my car, I was 21....i was quoted anywhere between $2300 upto 8 grand.

You just gotta do some shopping around.

The coupes in the us had a 3.2 "type II" v6 with the 6 spd option manual. Nice pimp car. The best bit is most of these 3.2 and 3.5 were quite expensive new ie....OLD PPLS drove em so they are a steal if you get a good 1! The 2.7 v6 in the early coupe/sedan had a nasty problem with oil and seizing up. Even when factory oil was used. We were always reco or good s/h the things when I worked @ Hondauto a few years back. The later 3.2 and 3.5 were fine never a hitch really. No Legend until now ever had vtec and interestingly alot of the race engines ditch vtec. Legend is a luxo cruiser nice torque especially in the 3.5 and will easily run to over 200kph stock. vtec was great for my crx/delsol on the street but it seems to be more a pollution issue i think. When your charging hard vtec is not an issue and i guess the same is true when your pimpin! bulk torque low revs nice n lazy. Interesting fact......did you guys know there was an official TURBO LEGEND it was a 2.0v6 inthe early series instead of N/A 2.7!! Had a radical "wingturbo" design and some guys actually mod there 2.7 to accomodate a turbo based on this design! Go to www.ststurbo.com to get an idea of how I am giving my 3.5 some stealth grunt. Already got the turbo just a basic T3/T4 hybrid and doing some basic pipework now. The motor is here and I will be tearing it down for inspection in a month or so. Slow process with work but should be worth it. Thanks for the warm welcome guys good to see some local legend owners who realise the potential. We should see some increased interest in these cars with the new RL SHAWD here in 2006 and with VIP becoming a pressence here!

the 2l turbo on the legend sedans from japan wernt all that crazy and radical, didnt have to much more power than the standard 2.7 litre, and because of the way of the turbo design (winged turbo) it makes for a bitch to do up.

im lovin the g2 legend there. why was manual never released in australia for the legends, where as americans get all there 5 speed manuals, and even as said, 6speed type 2 legends in some cases.

ahh well.

lol yeah, there is a lot of stuff that has to be custom made, XSpeed did all of my stuff and it took a while hey but afterwards it was all worth it, i am thinking about hydraulics and if i can't afford i am going to put some air suspension in it, too bad i am perth based and you guys are all over eastern states, i am also thinking about throwing in as many different gauges as possible, changing my leather from grey to black and putting in a few tv's with dvd players and all, change my tint from darkest legel to limo, PIMP PIMP P.I.M.P  anybody here that can be bothered doing anything savage? i really want a turbo of some sort but i can't go past the style of honda's and i am sure you guys agree hey! :D

Hey Mick have not seen you for a while, sorry to hear about your Legend. Which other gear is it not shifting into? Mine is still going into 2nd and 3rd but that is it. I also found red dust in the distributor indicating that it could seize at any moment :thumbdwn: Not happy Jan. Have you checked under your distributor cap recently? It can reck your whole engine if the distributor seizes, which is about all I need.

Not sure if anybody would be interested but

Apex-i S-AFC with Apex-i Cold Air Intake
Custom Front Lip, Full Bose Sound System (Home Theatre NOT Car Audio, Custom Install)

For starters dump the Dexron3 out of it and use genuine trans fluid..much better...also check the filter screens for the shift solenoids..will have to remove solenoids to do this..it may help if the trans is not to damaged

Dude, it will be pretty impossible to find anything remotely decent looking in a 16" rim. All I can say is go bigger. I fit 19" on my Gen1 coupe no problem at all. Be aware though that your turning circle will suck and the steering is a lot heavier. I dont mind it because I drive my Euro Luxury around every day (which by the way is also sitting on 19's and dumped 3.5") and my Legend is rarely driven, it sits in the garage under a car cover and is only driven like 1 a fortnight. You have to give up some comfort to look good.

I'm just thinking about buying a 94 Sedan. I have herd they are heavy on fuel but read here there not bad untill you start driving them hard, anyone got figures on fuel consuption.
Is there anything else I should know about them that goes wrong or should be considered before purchase, what $ may need to be spent. It's got 140KMs and yep its an Auto 3.2L.
Cheers for any info

Hey guy's,
I'm just thinking about buying a 94 Sedan.
Steve:thumbsup:

just make sure you get your harmonic balancer looked at, mine failed at about 240.000kms. the rubber ring that its mounted too came loose and sliped. i had it replaced with a type II balancer that is all metal so theres no rubber for it too come loose. other than that i cant think of any thing, ive had mine for 3years and its been a fantastic car.

at BP Ultimate prices like $1.40 or something my Sedan ('92) takes about $70 to fill up max...

goes f*cking hard though got quite a few modifications on it and tuned pretty well

clocked nearly 190,000 km's and started having problems at around 160,000 but my sister had the car back then and didn't attend to the car's problems, she thrashed the sh*t out of it...

got it back today actually and goes even harder than it did before, lost to a 300ZX TT that launched when i didn't and i was only a car length behind before he turned off... he must be thinking he's king d*ck now lol

anyways, back to the point.. expect to pay $70-$80 a weeks worth of driving (assuming fuel is around $1.40 p/L)

my car is also same as your's in engine capacity being a 3.2L auto

good luck buddy, just get a wet and dry compression test and a test drive to check and make sure everything is fine and a 100 point check...

hope that helped!

Andy

Thanks for the info guy's it's all a help at this stage.

Still not sure if I want to sell my current run around car (non Honda), have a mate wanting to buy it and I would need to replace it with something nice.

I didn't think there would be to many problems with the Legend, afterall it is a Honda... Just a bit concerned about fuel consumtion compared to current car as I will be driving it daily.

I will let you know how I go.

mods...

FULL custom Genie exhaust with extractors and all that bullsh*t...
FULL custom BOSE home theatre throughout the whole car
Apex'i SAFC with Apex'i CAI
17'' RG Lightweights (10 spoke, no dish... they were put on ages ago when dish wasn't cool :p)

stock leather and woodgrain with sunroof and other usual Legend standard features
lol also have an S2000 'Engine Start' button
lowered only at the front with a custom front lip... will lower the rear end soon!

one day old rebuilt motor; new pistons, rings, valves, cams, port and polished, fuel pump and water pump

and to be honest i think that's all i can think of.. i'm sure there is more to it but not for now... will update if i can come up with it and nope... no dyno yet... really want 200hp (atw) but i am most likely dreaming, goes REALLY hard though... haven't actually let the engine run through yet (being the idiot that i am) and a 300ZX TT wanted a run, launched whereas i didn't but silly me tried to catch up... got within a cars length but couldn't make it before he turned off... kind of embarassing

anyways.. what kind of problems?

i don't know what is common in Legend's problem-wise but what happened to mine was i had a cracked piston valve? (well my sister did) and the radiator wasn't to right...

my sister thought that it was just using up more oil and coolant so every morning she would put in a bit more before she'd leave to wherever, what she didn't know is that it was just getting bigger anf bigger (the crack) and ended up leaving me with black / grey smoke for nearly half a year, didn't have the $$$ to fix it but when you save enough for a rebuild it should last another generation i think...

if you are still 'iffy' about it just buy it man, they are one of the smoothest cars out there and look the sh*t, some people that look don't even know what it is until they see the badge on the back... besides the norm of people telling me it looks decent i have even had natives say it's nice, now that's got to be saying something?

all the best dude, hope i didn't rant too long for you :o

hey guys...

yeah everything has been done custom, i am in WA and all work was carried out with all Genie stuff.. everything mechanical done by XSpeed...

for the Legend you can't find sh*t... my mechanic wanted more parts but said they were too hard to find so what i could get as part of my rebuild was what i had to settle for... everything i got as part of the package wasn't necessary but was cheap if i got new parts so i decided to get more anyways...

haven't had any time to take pictures of late, when i do i will be sure to do so but i am hell busy lately and i am being serious :P

FEI_STi_REX
04-08-2006, 12:46 AM
has front tweeters, at the bottom on the front hidden by the stock covers...

rear 6 x 9's and had nakamichi 6-stack in dash with crossfire amp running an SPL sub.. with the sub i'm not sure as to what it was, my uncle took out the sub and amp when he gave my sister the car...

deck remained with me though and i regretably sold it, looking for in dash DVD player and screen to replace the yucky stock deck... system still goes pretty hard though

the KA7 & KA8s are nice... but getting parts is an absolute bitch, Honda Aus dont stock them anymore, and Honda Japan dont produce them anymore... a door handle for the coupe cost us $550 and had to come from japan, it was painted silver so it had to be resprayed to white aswell :(

but they're quite cheap now and can usually pick up decent quality ones

I love the ka7 legends the best, the sedan looks soo nice done up. There are more aftermarket parts available in the US as well (though some engine parts are swappable with the ka9).

The only problem that puts me off is the age of them now and the head gasket overheating problems. Can pick up a ka7 for a couple grand easy in NZ.

Would make a great second car though. Too bad I can't afford a ka9 and a ka7.:(

Congrats on the purchase . What colour did you get?

She got the very first one sold in northern Tas when they came out in that charcoal colour. I think the car must be on 20-30,000ks at the moment, but not sure as I haven't been home in a while. No problems since except for a small power steering leak from a broken fitting, she had it fixed at honda, hopefully the low PS fluid did not harm the pump or the rack. It took ages for Honda to release the discs for the navigation, they did not have them for the first year. No other complaints.

O K A Y...

My mum drives a Nissan Something! You know, the little one.

But I DRIVE A PRISTINE KA9 LEGEND. If I could find the right show, it's in Concourse condition. Genuine straighty-180. It is big. Has comfortable environs and ambience in the back seat. I know this because I've been complimented on this.

Oversteer, who needs it with all-cow-interior and Bose as stock.

In fact it's so big and heavy I need to get some of the creaky steering, trans-axle, etc fixed up.

After I get through the "Financial Crisis" I'm keen to fit a Double DIN DVD/radio etc. Not fused about the GPS, unless it comes with an A4 map, and I think I've got that covered.

Ineptitude with the photo upload at this stage. Will fix later.

clean legend man! the interior looks pretty immac! congrats on joining the legend club haha

about your earlier post, the C-series engines are pretty reliable, although electrics and overheating may become a problem over time.. for example i just replaced my thermostat.. it shouldn't happen very often.. mine's been pretty reliable! you shouldn't have to many problems if you're a responsible driver and car owner :)

Just wondering if any 1997 KA9 owners out there has had the same experience. After i drive the car doesnt matter how far or how long. When i leave it parked for about 1hr to 2hrs or so, i go to start it and its cranks over longer than usual aprox 20secs+, like the fuel pump isnt primed, then eventully it starts. I have tried priming it first it made no difference. But in the mornings, when dead cold it starts normal, kicks over straight away with no hesitation. Cars got 144,000kms on it. I have tried replacing the fuel filter, decarbinising the intake manifold and valves, used a on car fuel injector clean.

Thanks.

well i duno about the 'starting when dead cold but not starting after a drive' thing.. but my fuel pump gave up on me after 120,000kms, and the car wouldn't start most of the time, then i replaced the fuel pump with a bosch, and no problems since.

Might give that a go. Also my ABS pumps buzzes everytime on start up, and sometimes while driving. Does yours do that too?

I dont have any other KA9's t o compare with.

Cars got 144,000kms on it. i had a fuel leak from the fuel rail at the front washers where the rubber line connects the 2 rails

hey all legends owners with a c32 or c35 motor. when you get the timing belts done ask the mechanic to have a look for black goo running down the front of the motor on the right side. its a ridiculously common problem for the cam position sensors to shit themselves

HondaLegend89
21-09-2009, 09:14 PM
While it is a very common problem for the insulation to melt on the cam sensor it doesn't affect operation.

Good to see a few more Legend enthusiasts getting about. I forget about this forum, acuralegend.org is where it's at if you're a Legend enthusiast

Hi all, wondering if anyone out there can help. I got into my beautiful legend coupe this morning to find the park brake light is coming back on & staying on a few seconds after I've dis-engaged it, plus the abs light is coming on a few seconds after this happens. Anyone know why or how to fix it?

~Sp33~

Is your brake fluid low? The hand brake light is also an indication of low brake fluid.

Man, I've just fitted a double DIN dvd unit into my 1999 dash with a perfect-fit fascia from a japanese company. I paid about $175 for the fascia and the wiring harness that allowed me to use my existing speaker wires (lots of them) with the Honda factory proprietary male/female plug. The result was great. There seems to be various double DIN standard sizes. The fascia I used worked with 178mm x 100 apperture.

The japanese company is called Beatsonic. Go with the japanese company, NOT the USA one. Remember, the aussie Legends are THE SAME CAR as driven in Japan. Not the same as the USA-delivered Accura RL3.5. So try these guys, via email, in simple English.

I ended up making mine from mdf. Took me about half a day to make it. Not 100% perfect fit look but i'm happy, i'm currently making a second one since i have the left over mdf. Head over to Legend Forum (http://www.acuralegend.org) if you want to meet more legend owner mainly from the USA. "Travis_Gib0" is also a member there and i'm sure a few other here that i'm not aware.

Reclining + heated rear seats.. Tbh, only just got it back up and running, and unfortunately, nothing new just yet.

lol why? because theres no sunroof or rear fog lights? Has traction control, which aus ones never had, has full electric + heated seats, has jdm one piece headlights with the in built fog lights, even have the air refiner on the parcel shelf. pretty sure it has most of the options ;)

the legends here was effectively an accord on steroids. reading the owner's manual is pretty depressing knowing how much things we dont get.

Few months late but... It's the same dvd that's used in the accord euro's and older CRV's. The newer Honda's all update via USB.
