do you have control of the ipod from the factory HU now?

Well done - and thanks for being the guniea pig - not cheap but as long as it works and the sound quality is good that is all that matters.

And thanks for posting photos.

Timbo - I am fairly sure the device just allows you to AUX to the stock unit - it doesn't control any Ipod functions. You can of course control volume from the steering but that is all. Correct me if I am wrong - that is my understanding.

I think there are only a few head units on the market that can control ipod functions - eg some Alpine models.

no ... it does not have control of the ipod... it only provide a RCA input or it can be connect to sony CD changer (for my model of snhond3)

i know there is another device can control your ipod on the steering or HU button... link...

Your looking at it, the Soundgate SNHOND3, assuming you have a recent euro.

So far only one euro owner in Oz has confirmed success, I hope to be the second in the next couple weeks. (without changing to a completely different headunit)

I found something pretty similar to learner's Soundgate for my new :honda: Accord Euro Lux 2005 :D ! I ordered it online, and the shop does shipping to Australia and the rest of the world.
I ordered it last week, hopefully i can get it this week and get it install on Saturday.

Hello
I just received the AUX converter today,
the manufacturer's website is www.pie.net
the model is HON03/PC-SON. I checked the web, it's equivalents to Learner's SNHOND3, check this site for more detail

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/intcovcrossreflj.html

I will post more info after i install it this weekend!
I might upload the step by step guide onto here if my installer don't mind I bother him while he is installing, he he! :)

Hey Learner - how hard would you rate the install of the SNHOND3?
Were the instructions clear? Did you use any Honda instructions to remove the trays and compartments etc to gain access to the stereo area?

Finally where did you order it from?

hi yfin... i got it from a frd in america.
the instruction page come with SNHOND3 is useless... it only tell u that u have to connect the SNHOND3 to the factory handunit.... but wat u have to do is just plug it in really.

since there are some ppls pm me how to remove the trays and compartments.. here is the answer.

1. remove the cover near the stick... there are 6 clips holding it. you just have to pull it up with CARE. the yellow dot in the pic is where are the cilps... if i remember it right.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~tommi/ozHonda/ipod/e01.jpg

2. remove the ash-tray (just the tray. [when u wanna clean up the ash-tray].. not the whole thing)

3. after u done step1&2 .. u will see 4 screws holding the ash-tray PART.
the yellow dot in the pic is where the screws are. just un-do the screws then remove the ash-tray part.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~tommi/ozHonda/ipod/e02.jpg

4 now is time to remove the middle compartment (the BOX)... just put your hands to the left and right of the box(INSIDE) then pull it out. just put your hands inside and kinda spread them outwards to go enough pressure, also kind grab on the the lower lip with thumb and forefinger…Don't pull on the door…Be very carefull around the trim as it scratches easily
(there are 2 clips holding the box... is on the left and right side of da box...)

5. plug the cable to here
http://members.iinet.net.au/~tommi/ozHonda/ipod/04.jpg

6. connect the SNHOND3 to the other end of the cable....

7. DONE.

HOPE this will help...
if u still don't understand... maybe is better to ask here... so other ppls can see as well. :D

Learner - thanks! Did the door to "the BOX" need to be removed - or did the entire box come out in once piece?

I am finding it hard to source the device at the moment. Waiting on some emails but at least one place (logjam electronics) do not ship outside USA.

People may find this document useful too. Not exactly the instructions but may assist as the design of the console appears to be similar to ours. Note that I am not 100% sure these instructions are compatible as it is a different vehicle - but it is useful nonetheless.

Guys - I also found this - not the Euro but very similar console design.

I know this is somewhat overkill - but I want as much information and pictures on this before I start pulling apart the console. If I break something it will be expensive!

Yep - I want one but trying to justify the cost. Just ordered one of those new Sony mp3 players HD5 - get it next week - will wait and see if I need it in the car. SNHOND3 or equivalent costs around $145AUD shipped. Not cheap so I will probably wait until I am travelling next year.

$145 isnt really that bad considering what it does for you. However if you compare it to the cost of a new head unit, I guess you dont have to pay much more to get a new HU. You do lose the factory look though by going this way.

All it does is connect an external device to a head unit - something I thought a stock unit should be able to do anyway!

its rediculus, such a luxury car and theres no inputs for external music players or outputs for subs. while a $150 head unit got it all.

Hi Tako-calvin - Autotoys do not ship to Australia. Not sure why they shipped it for you - they said a definate NO for Australia.

After searching for a LONG time I have finally found a place that ships a unit to Australia. They have both soundgate and the PIE unit at good prices. The pie unit is $85 USD which is good. Only problem is shipping - the estimator says
Economy (Surface) Parcel Post$26.88
Airmail Parcel Post$40.94Global Express Mail (EMS)$45.00Global Express Guaranteed Document Service$91.25Global Express Guaranteed Non-Document Service$97.50

Hmmm - I guess I would want Airmail which takes it to $126USD or around $170AUD. I have emailed these guys to check the shipping - it is a small unit so not sure why the estimator thinks $40US is the right shipping fee.

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=287

Far out - can't believe I am thinking about paying $170 for some cables.

He he he... maybe I was just lucky!
But in the AutoToy website, it did mention that they do ship their goods to oversea. Please refer to this page,
http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/pages.php?pageid=7

Im glad to hear you found it from the other website that takes international shipping though!

Something you might need to know when you install it to your HU.

When you plug the AUX converter into the 14 pin connector at the HU, it wont work straight away when you push the CD/AUX button on the HU!! You need to get your Ipod or some other Mp3 Player or CD player to plug in with the cable and play song. so then that signal can enable the AUX funtion for the HU!!

Anyway! It need some signal to send to the HU to enable the AUX funtion on the HU!

Good Luck and enjoy!

Well after a hell of a lot of stuffing around, my SNHOND3 is FINALLY, DEFINENTLY on its way across the ocean.
Honestly, it shouldnt be so hard to order this bloody thing.

Anyway, if anyone wants to buy a SNHOND3 easily, I can recommend a bloke named Jason French who runs a car hifi joint in California, email him on auburnfrench@yahoo.com.
Tell him DJ sent ya.

14-07-2005, 11:19 AM
it was like full retail + $25 shipping, but quite frankly, after trying to order one for like a month +, I dont care anymore :)

Either way its cheaper than buying a new deck, and I personally think taking out the storage compartment to add an after market deck uglies up the interior, so for me, I see it as reasonable value. Will post pics once i have the ipod installed.

Just checked, its $114.95 + $25 US. Yes you can find them cheaper online, shame none of them will ship the bloody thing....we are really only talking about $15(ish) more here.

[QUOTE=learner]hi yfin... i got it from a frd in america.

>this just pulls up n out.

3. after u done step1&2 .. u will see 4 screws holding the ash-tray PART.
the yellow dot in the pic is where the screws are. just un-do the screws then remove the ash-tray part.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~tommi/ozHonda/ipod/e02.jpg

>seems the ash tray on mine also had two clips on the auto gear lever edge, i just pulled and these got wrenched off the ashtray unit and fell into the cavity below - make sure you get them out and refit them (they has a thin tang in the centre and this fits between the bars you can see when youve the ash tray in your hand.

4 now is time to remove the middle compartment (the BOX)... just put your hands to the left and right of the box(INSIDE) then pull it out. just put your hands inside and kinda spread them outwards to go enough pressure, also kind grab on the the lower lip with thumb and forefinger…Don't pull on the door…Be very carefull around the trim as it scratches easily

>yes start with the door open and pull outward - lifting at the lip - but then close the door and pull out or you will break the dash clip holes as the side of the door mech inside is wider with the door open - the dash did bend but my clips holes look very rough now and i feel lucky they didnt break off.

5. plug the cable to here
http://members.iinet.net.au/~tommi/ozHonda/ipod/04.jpg

>i used the dension cable and unit and it plugged right in - you will need to make sure the cables commin out of the plug are gently bent flush tho or the cupboard door will foul on them. i ran my cable up and along the right hand side and down the front of the dash pannel thats on the side of the cupboard hole. then connected the dension unit along the floor of the cavity - taping it to the existing thin protected cable in there - i also put a piece of foam in next to the sharp edges of the metalwork and fed the dension cradle cable in from the drivers footwell (unsscrew a screw up n under the dash edge, loosen the trim clip and pull out then pull towards the engine and the triangle pannel will slide out leaving you with access and the bolt that you may use to fit a bracket for the ipod etc. i did see a bracket online for this but ive not seen it again recently... im hoping to get one tho as it will make a neat install.

hope this helps - usual internet help disclaimer applies: errors and omissions excepted and if you use this advice and ruin your car then im not to be held responsible, i was only trying to help you. if you dont understand any of thisor are not confident with cars etc then please use the services of a trained professional fitter.

I was going to use the cradle stood up screwed to a block of wood so that the ipod was just inside the cupboard, but theres not enough room to slide the ipod out of the cradle - it hits the roof of the cupboard.... maybe you can make it fit but i couldnt. I liked the idea of making use of the cupboard and its antitheft ability, but seems its not gonna happen unless i lay the ipod down and then i cant see whats playing....

i think the price ws 175USD... check the site tho as it may been on special...

It'll be a week or so until I get mine working., but 'll let you know how I go. I'd steer clear of a bracket until you have exhausted all other attempts...

I ended up paying US$199 for the unit including shipping to Melbourne.

I used velcro. One piece on the ipod belt holder - the other just to the side of the head unit display - looks real neat - i'll post some pics

Been using the Dension for a while now (made my own bracket from a piece of alloy from Bunnings ($6ish) - one piece bent to go to the bolt behind the screw off panel in the footwell and heads down at an angle back to the ground and cut so the end sticks out from behind the trim about 1.5cm. Then one piece bent to lip over the console near the cabinet door that heads down and overlaps the end of the other bar - i then screwed these together with self tappers. painted it all satin black ($2.99 from Supercheap) and with some rubber taped behind and on the lip round the console edge its worked out great and hardly noticable at all - the ipod seems to float! i screwed the dension cradle to the lip curve (i went wide when i bent this curve so it sticks out towards the seat a bit to get the width for the bolts/screws to fix the cradle) and then also used double sided tap on all the cradle parts as the cradle can be hit by your knee and seems to losen up quickly - the tape gives it some movement but not so it will fail or seem loose.

no pics but if you read this and have built brackets before and are willing to take your time to get it right and be careful not to damage the dash plastics then I say go for it, mine works well and best of all it was <$10 and 2 hours work.

Fitting the dension with the links in this thread is childsplay. :-)

Just got the new Blitzsafe HON/M-LINK1V.2 a couple of weeks back and it's great  . It's got the ipod plug on it so it plays and charges at the same time. Got it from discountcarstereo.com for around the same price.

just got my Soundgate SNHOND3 after the long wait.
just wanna say tat it is 100% work in oz euro as well.:D
just installed it today... the sound is great when connecting to my ipod.

Do we connect the ipod to Soundgate SNHOND3 using the normal ipod cable or do we need to buy another cable? Can we still use the console box and do you have picture showing where you put your ipod?

The SNHOND3 only comes with RCA plugs. You wil need to get an interface cable or dock to connect the iPod. The Blitzsafe HON/M-LINK1V.2 and Ice Link come with the iPod connectors. The Ice Link gives you the control of the iPod from the steering wheel and stereo console and both also charge the iPod.

yo mate... i got one on my car and it works fine

i found that the ipod doesnt sound as good when plugged in

compared to my bro's samsung mp3 player and sis's sony walkman mp3, they sound so way better than mines

if you can get a direct connection via dock connector such as dockin station OR dock connector-to-rca cable, then should sound awesome

10 minutes - including removal of the centre console and box? You must be a super fast worker as it took me like 40 min. I didn't want to break any clips or scratch anything. I run the wiring to the box inthe centre of the car

Not really, the instructions were really simple.

I ran my cables via an ash try (drilled a little hole in it), so all cable are hidden away there when not used
