I'd advise against using an engine flush as I've heard they can leave deposits in you journals and bearings.

It's normal for the oil to get dirty.......as long as it still have a golden like colour (put it in a clear bottle and hold it up to the light) :)

Yup - the deposits are "displaced crude" from sediments elsewhere in your engine becoming displaced by solvents etc - and clogging up other areas !

Similar to a stroke (biological) for your engine if anyone understands that ?

Just change your oil every 5,000kms and filter every 5-10,000kms and be happy :)

also, using top quality oils like motul will help 10x!

Yeah Never ever ever use a engine oil flush u can also dislodge any metal shaving in the engine and stuff up ur valve clearances and other stuff

what you can do is to empty the oil, then put some cheaper oil in same type though... then get the engine running hot......... then empty the oil........... then put the good stuff in....... this process should do the trick...... if its really really black then it might take one more time of this process.....

my mech. said mix some engine flush fluid with normal oil and let it run for 15mins, then drain and put normal oil back in. do this every 3000 k's then after the 5th time just open up ur rocker cover and check to see how clean your inside is.

I think engine flush will change the valve clearance and remove the protection coating inside the engine?

Dude mine does the same by about 4000kms it's pretty dirty but still slightly brown and you can still see daylight through. I think it's pretty normal from what of heard from other owners. Oil I use is Motul turbolight 4100 (10W-40).

it will change the clearance because of all the shits that been removed from it. just get it adjusted

i was told to do a similar thing to u guys, but replace engine flush with a bit of diesel.

run cheap oil mixed with about 500ml of diesel run car for about 15 mins and drain oil. Do it as many times as necessary and then put the good oil in. Needed to do it twice in my crx.

Bahaha Ur engines gonna shit itself, well maybe not but ur doing some damage there.
Seriously dont do engine flushes! There should be no pint in flushing ur engine if u just do regular oil changes

Oil going black is not a bad thing. Its a sign of the oil doing its job of cleaning and keeping the yuck in suspension. Just change the filter and oil every 5000kms if you're worried. Honda FEO or Type-R oil will do the job perfectly.

Sounds to me like your compression rings on the pistons are on their way out and you are getting blow by thru the chamber. Same sh1t is happening to me. Its not that serious but it just means u burn oil and lose a few horsies in compression = power.

yeah I agree.. CHECK YOUR OIL DAILY.. is fine as long as you dont run out of oil.. THAT is fatal !!

if you want, you can move to a lower viscosity oil (thicker) and it wont get burnt as fast as higher viscosity oils.

u got it mixed up matey. higher viscosity = higher resistance to flow[thicker]

Great info guyz... but wat oil do you guyz actually use on your hondaz??

Ive heard a mention of Motul and ive heard people say Mobile 1... but ive been told to stick to genuine Honda oil for NA cars and if you go turbo then try the above...

I use Mobile 1 btw... until i get a clear answer...

Hannys told me to use Mobile 1 5W50 even if its a newer car :D

Just make sure you let her worm up a bit longer

My D16Y1 drinks quite a bit but its only just hit the 100.000 mark

So over the weekend I'm going from Honda 20W30 to Mobile 1 5W50 and see how she gose :p

Anyone ells tried Mobile 1 5W50?

I've tried many types of oils on NA and turbo cars, the 5w50 Mobil 1 is quite pricey good oil but it burns up too quick, when i change the oil for some cars people have their own personal preference like Shell 5w50 synthetic, Motul 5w50..... So I guess it comes down to personal preference... I give the thumbs up to Castrol R 10w60 Synthetic prob cuz i get it for a good price...

OWS 5w60 engine oil is very good too but its pretty steep...

Oh yeah you cant go wrong with Honda FEO oil too... did i mention the MTF Plus Transmission fluid you cant go pass that either

My prblem is Honda FEO is going out the back way to fast and Hannys said Moble 1 5W50 will stop this?

I'm puting it in this weedend and I let ya know how she goes :D

Done but my D16Y1 shit its self lol

Its smoking like a mofo and the tappets are hell loud now :thumbdwn:

Has putting in better oil changed clearance?

I drove round for a bit and it seems to have carmed down

Anyone know how long it takes for the old oil to burn away?

Thx LukeZen

OEM honda oil is pretty good - one of my best mates is a honda mechanic with a DC2 and swears by it...

Sounds like your engine has clocked up quite a bit of milage over the years... You should check the valve clearances and adjust them to spec, you be suprised how much better the engine will sound after an adjustment and a high chance recover some lost power as well, as for the oil burning problem its hard to say esp when the engine isnt running within specs possibly relating to your clearance, condtion of your stem seals, compression (rings) leaking seals and gaskets are probably more of the cause of your 'missing' oil

Nan its only just hit 100.000 last week dude

Tho i think the last owner used cheap ass oil :thumbdwn:

Its not to mush to get valve clearances done is it?

Depends, if you know how to do a timing belt, adjusting clearance is pretty straight forward... in fact less involved...

Thick / cheap oil and lack of oil changes prob has cause wear and tear on the rocker arms and cam lobes... open the valve cover and half a look

adjusting clearance
Tune coze I hasen't be done since my mods

Let em do it and get a warrnty on the job

Cartrol R syn 10w 60 is the best, its a full race oil . Must make sure car has well and trully warmed up before driving, does not like to be cold. Keeps its protective properties under hard driving and high reving environment. Will also keep it viscosity if been diluted by fuel if running to rich (this may help if your car has a bad tune job). Oil temps will be lower with this oil

I have a 98 dc2 and i recently switched from 10w30 to 20w50 Penzoil semi synthetic cause was using too much oil. Runs good with 20w30 and uses less oil, but at the end of the day, no matter what oil u are using, if u are in V-tec most of the time, you are going to need to refill every couple weeks!!

If the oil gets dark after a week, thas only natural in a high revving machine, and you don't need to flush it as i read in the beggining of this post. Machines aren't suppose to be a clean thing.
