When was the last time you had the car service. The car might just need a service

before i bought mine, the accelerator would cut out at 3k rpm, then jump back and work... in my case it was that the fuel filter was blocked up... so yer, a service should pick that up if it is the cause

true this, it started to get worse as the fuel got lower.. if i keep the fuel up, would it be any help mean mean while before i get the service done?

It could be just fuel level is low and the fuel pump is just picking up all the guk at the bottom... Thus causing blockage

Sounds like the fuel pump isn't actually pumping fuel, is it the stock pump + fuel tank? I think when the half-empty tank is sloshing around the pump isn't always getting fuel so your accell is going on and off.

strainer could of fell of the fuel pump.

just to add....ECU MAN etc -

my honda civic has a similar problem - the less fuel in the car the crappier the car runs ( less smooth) ? And , the fuel gauge is VERY unreliable- goes up and down all over the place.
Is this due to a fuel pump problem , John ? Or somewhere is there a blockage or ?

to rule out your probs Ben, you need to hook up a fuel pressure guage to your injector rail and monitor the pressure when it plays up.

I know there are aftermarket internal and external fuel pumps.
Which 1 is it for say a gen 2 crx?

What if you don't have an injector rail :)

hijacking a thread benj!... tsk tsk... jk:p

yeh my civic does the same thing... :( will the fuel pressure gauge help determine if there

is a problem...?

on a carby you would measure the fuel pressure before the carbys on the fuel line, however carby engines react differently to fuel pressure problems. so this thread dosnt really apply to carb.

EFI is your fuel pressure is fluctuating, your engine will suffer from this.
if your fuel presure is constatnt and within specs, then you should start to look at your injecotrs or posibly even your ignition system.

to add....if perhaps i was to take out my injectors- and get them all pulse cleaned ( ir whatever its called at a workshop) woudl this rectify the problem ? ATLEAST find out if its the injectors clogging up etc ? ( this is on a 13 year odl car...with the same old injectors...)
