prob cos theres no sound coming from speakers as ur radio aint on... :p
speakers are probably blown... take out the grill and inspect the speaker for any tears or cracks...

Take the cover off them, then push in gently from the centre, very gently, and whilst it is moving up and down, if you feel/hear any scratching there blown, which is sounds like it is

I'm not sure if this is related (it might!) but when I start listening to music whether it be on radio or tape on my headunit - stock honda headunit, it crackles like crazy so I can only listen to the music at a very low setting. After about 10-15 mins or so - it ranges, my speakers then go back to normal mode and I can listen to them on a higher volume setting without hearing those crackling noises. I'm guessin' its the headunit thats causing the problem.

yea it could also be the head unit, but sounds as tho speakers are the problem... How old are they? are they the stock ones?

Well my fronts have been swapped with some other speakers from another car and even if i adjust the sound to just the rear it still crackles regardless, that is probably the main reason why I had assumed it was the head unit in the first place.

Check to see if there are any breaks in the insulation on your wiring, if its only happening when the car's on, the speakers could be grounding to the chassis somewhere.. just a thought.
Do the push test too like Jackosimm suggested. Another thought.. if they have a vented pole piece (a hole in the back of the magnet structure to cool the coil) check to see if there's anything stuck in there. Also (this is what happened to my mate's speakers) if they're co-axials there could be something stuck around the pole that supports the tweeter. If thats the case, get a can of compressed air and blow it out. Then do the push test again..

He wasn't hijacking, he didn't ask a question simply stated a problem he has that is similar in the hope that it might help the OP somehow.

yeh.. thanks guys...
i dont think it is the speakers tho...
because when i balance it out to the side that makes the cracking noise,
then it sounds fine...
i think it is the deck as it is a pretty old jvc cd one...
also... not only one speaker is making that noise
the rear left and the front left are making cracking noises..
could it be the grounding mentioned by one of you guys?
if so.. how can i change that?
