hey guys i have a eg b16a2 from egsiR
does anyone know what the octane rating is for premium fuel or whatever they call it in japan...? my mate rekkons it would be around 102 where as our highest is 98.5 i think,
so as a result would my car run better on japanese fuel as my engine and ecu are set for fuel with octane levels this high? i never run anything but premium 98 octane fuel and im not game to use an octane boost in my car. besides an extra 20 bucks a week on fuel for octane boost is pretty pricey for 500mls

just run it on AU premium, if your really paranoid have the ECU remapped. then you know what the AFR is as well

it is 100 ron. interestingly enuff most cars mapped to 100 are ok on 98. take for example the mugen ecu for the dc5r

All B series engine should run at the very least standard premium (recommended by Honda). I personally only run High Octane premium, on a Jap spec i would also do the same as their lowest rated fuel is better than out highest!

australia has the shittest fuel in the world, we have been limited to 2 or 3 ok brands of premium 98ron fuel....

I disagree.
To tell you the truth we are in a very good position with regard to fuel quality.

try america's 89 ron
89 is our middle grade... 87 is the most common ;)
although I do believe that we used a different system of measuring octane, so it's not THAT much lower than what everyone else gets... the whole ron/pon/other acronyms ending in on thing

MON is apparently a better way to look at fuel........ all I remember is that when you work out the specific MON for a given fuel... and you use another formula to convert the MON value back to RON.... it gives a more accurate RON value.
It has been a while since I read up on it though so I can't elaborate futher as to why this is the case.

i know it as 102.
garett obivously your car would run better on jap fuel, not only because of the octane rating but also the tunning, question is how much difference would it be?
there are plenty of imports (not only Hondas) that have been in AUS for a few years and have had no problem running on AUS fuel.

Australia uses the average of RON & MON ratings.
so a 98octane rating is 1/2*(RON+MON) rating of the fuel
It is rated this way becuase this gives a better understanding of the stability of the fuel. The closer the RON+MON ratings are to eachother, the better the stability of the fuel.
