What colour is the smoke?

Roughly.

Blue = Burning oil
Black = Too rich.
Grey/white = Water/coolant

Black smoke isn't a bad thing..... so which is it?

Black smoke is prolly cos of the pod i reckon :)

When i had the civic ont he dyno, my A/F was perfect. Honda ecu's are usually good at compensating. Maybe ur 02 sensoris playing up? i really doubt a pod will effect a/f.

you would be surprised!...when i got my exhaust a pod installed it completely threw out the mixtures!

Turbo stuff will always run a little rich but std NA Honda stuff will always run spot on, you must have a little prob somewhere.

you will actually find that most vtec hondas run very very rich in the top end to promote in cylinder cooling and lubrication...also a safety mechanism against lean outs!

If you are running a MAP sensor then everything should be OK. If its an AFM then that might be your problem.

Otherwise check your ECU for error codes.

thats all good, but not even a microtech with a NA Honda puffs black smoke when we dyno it.

The little thing above the throttle body/butterfly with the wires sticking out is the MAP sensor.

Excuse the foil :)

Smoke coming out at WOT (wide Open Throttle) hence Vtec is normal, once the stock ECU senses this, it will make you car run rich. Honda did this to prolong the life of the engine, if you dyno tune your car with some sort of piggy back to correct your air-fuel ratio, hence leaning out your A/F curve, then most of the smoke would disappear at WOT. Also take note the colour of the smoke as someone previously stated

Black least worried
Grey/White - Worried... most likely a blown head gasket where coolant is mixing with your oil...
