View Full Version : engine tone coming through speakers

I read through the recent thread about engine noise being picked up in the cables. I'm not sure if my problem is the same as that. I am getting a clean tone that varies pitch with the engine revs through the front speakers I just installed.
I just installed a hu and amp and hooked up the front speakers that were already there. I just got the car. The battery is in the boot with ground line going up passenger side and +12v going up drivers. The amp is in the boot with the speaker cables for each side going up that side.
Tomorrow I was going to test to see if it's getting picked up in the rca cables going from hu to amp. But I doubt it. Someone had a similar problem in another forum that they said was caused by a ground loop. Does this sound right? I'm pretty sure the amp isn't touching the chassis, but I'll double check this tomorrow.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

do this...
1. Ground the battery to the chassis in the boot.
2. Make sure your RCA's are run the other side from the power cable going to the front.
3. Make sure you have a SOLID ground for the amp. sand back to bare metal at the ground point for the amp and also where you ground the battery. use bolts to secure the ground points.
4. Ground the earth cables at the front to the chassis, follow step 3.

So there shouldn't be a ground cable going all the way from the battery up to the front? It just uses the chassis? Or do I ground the earth cables to the chassis at the front as well as running a cable up there and grouding the battery to the chassis in the boot? And by power cable do you mean the 12v?
Thanks for the directions man. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

I read it lots of times. I'm just not sure if you mean for me to do this on top of what I already have set up or to start from scratch and do that. sorry

you ground the battery to the chassis right next to the battery or very close to it.
the factory ground wires under the bonnet you ground there under the bonnet.
the power wire you have going to the front of the car from the battery should be on the other side of the car where the RCA's are run.
ground the amp at the same point if possible where you grounded the battery.
now is that any better? :D

i had the same prob, it ended up being my hu...needed to send it away to get fixed....if ur rca cables touched a ground it will send it back up the rcas and **** the hu

yea looks like it could be a ground problem.
re-check all wiring is all solid

could be :-
1: is the ground, it should go to the chassis
2: run your ground, power, remote to one side of the car and the RCA to the other
3: Could be your RCA cables too, the cheap one tends to gives out a bit of noise
But most important is your ground cable need to be very well grounded, tight and secure

Thanks for all the suggestions. It turns out it was as simple as running the rca on the side with the ground rather than the +12v. There was already rca's on that side too. Only problem is one channel in the cable is buggered. So I'll have to put another one in.
