Thanks,

EY! i was gonna make a warning thread on this, but totally forgot. DO NOT use CD-R (or burn cd's) in the Euro!!!

the stacker jammed twice, and on the 2nd time, the guy at the honda dealership said it was because the stacker does not like burnt cd's.

i dont know why this happends, because burnt cd's are the same as normal cd's, or so i would have thought.

this MAY have been resolved with newew Euro's, since mines 2003 model...

i'm not sure here, but i cant understand what effect the type of cd is in terms of making cds jam physically in stacker. Is a cdrw thicker?

The only problem ive ever had was with a burnt cd that i had put a label on, the heat from the unit made the sticky fail and the label seperate partially.

I've only had an issue with 1 CD-R, but it doesn't jam the stacker, it just skips a few of the songs randomly. but the rest of my CD-Rs are working fine.

well, im just going on what the dealer told me... But since ive stopped using CD-R, the stacker has never jammed.

what brand of CD-R do u use? also, do you stick a label on top of the CD? These things if not sticked properly do cause jamming.

I use CD-RW and CD-Rs in my stacker without any jamming so far (7 months). The trick is to use the branded media where the dimensions (thickness, diameter and twist) are actually part of the quality control process.
For CD-R, I use Ricoh Golds, and for CD-RW I use Ricoh 10x (purple ones), Verbatim 10x, Verbatim 12-24x and Imation 4x and 10x discs.

And I NEVER EVER stick any labels on the discs. That is just asking for trouble. Labels cause the disc to go off balance when spinning. A majority of computer CD-ROM drives have built in vibration damping mechanisms (because they spin so fast at up to 50x), but I doubt that audio CD readers have the same.

Thanks Aaron, I think you're the first one with the answer that I needed. :D

Reason for my asking is because my 2002 CRV main CD unit is able to play CD-RW but not the in-dash 6 stacker which I optioned.

Lotsa people still don't know the difference between CD-R and CD-RW.... :)

I'm pretty sure I had no problem playing CD-RW.
Never had any problem with burnt cd jamming.
I think the dealer is just pulling out a load of garbage with that one.

My dealer told me not to use copied CDs to play in the unit after mine got stuck and wouldn't play. I never believed him and after warranty replacement, I continued to use copied CDs (TDK and another unknown brandname) and had no problems since...

No problems with CD-RW or CD-R's.

I use Imation or Princo for CR-RW's and any decent brand for CD-R's. I think you might have got a defected stacker as my Euro was purchased end of 03.

you guys are probably right. i dont think they ever replaced our stacker, they merely just removed the jammed disk and put the faulty stacker back in. i use sony cd-r, and i dont put a sticker on them, i just use the specail cd pen to write on it.

but what i dont get it, it never jams when using normal cd's, only when i use cd-r... ???

this really isnt a major issue anyway, since a full sound system is going in soon, head unit and all. MAYBE a dvd screen if there is any money left :D

Some normal CDRs work and others dont (Skips, hisses, etc.). I found using CDR s specially marked for Music works fine (Maxell, Verbatim and TDK).

I actually have a CD stuck in my stacker now. Does any one have a suggestion on how to get it out (short of taking it back to the dealer)?

everytime we got a cd stuck, had to take back to the dealer. unless your confident with pulling out the stacker from behind the centre dash console...

I haven't had any issues with burnt CDs and have had my euro for over 2 years and pretty much used burnt CDs exclusively of all brands.

I don't see how a burnt CD would get stuck moreso than a normal CD unless it is a blank and teh player continually keeps searching for tracks.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

That's odd, the only time I've ever had skipping was with CD-RW media, burnt at top speed (10x) instead of a more conservative 4x. I don't get hisses or others. Get the dealer to do it. It's better to let it get stuffed by the dealer opening it rather than by you.

Not all blanks are the same, some vary quite a bit in the thickness of the actuall cd. We have a 10disc stacker for the home theatre and sometimes cd's would get stuck, when i pulled it out n compared it to a normal cd it was 1.5x the thickness. The main reason for cd's getting stuck is the bigger thickness. Another possibility is home made labels, since cd's can get quite hot when in use the glue used can melt and the label peels off. I got a printer that prints directly onto cd's so i dont have to worry abt labels peeling off hehe :D

Our euro doesnt even know what an original cd is... lol
I've been using verbatim and imation blanks, just the normal ones and not the specialised Audio Disc. So far havn't had any cd get stuck or skip. As for the use of cd-rw's i'm not sure abt that.

I stopped using TDK a long time ago. My TDK discs from 4 years back don't play anymore. The Kodaks from the same time are still good. I use Ricoh now, they are fairly thin, and comparing now, it is thinner than the TDK.

Eh...well I did not raise the issue.

They just said they were going to replace it - no mention of costs...yet

I suspect they may try the: You shouldn't use DVD-Rs, etc. arguement.

I will have to plead ignorance and point to the fact that the owner's manual says nothing on the subject

Took my Euro in on Monday 29/8 and they replaced the CD player - no Charge! They said they have taken the old unit away to have the CDs removed and returned to me - very nice of them. So it was a very good outcome. Many thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement. I will be a bit more careful what CDs I put into the stacker from now on...

Hmm... that was a good outcome. I remember reading in my MY06 manual that you can use CD-R's but that some units may be incompatible with CD-RW. Although reading on this forum, I notice some of you have been using CD-RW without issues.

Can someone with a MY06 model (I have the Euro Sport) confirm whether CD-RW's work in your 6-stacker? They're just so much more efficient when you want to make CD compilations than reburning a CD-R everytime!

fortec@sprint.net.au
28-05-2006, 10:22 PM
I haven't tried CD-RW. But seriously, CD blanks are so cheap (<50c each), you may want to just stick to CD-R which everyone knows works.

By the way, a friend of mine bought a Euro'06 last month. There is now a warning label on the CD stacker that saids you should not use a CD with any sticky labels on it.

I guess they (Honda) must have had a few returns with stucked CDs. It also sounds like several Euro owners have had their players replaced for free. So may be, with the "official" warning label, the dealers can now charge the unsuspecting owner for any replacements due to a badly labelled CD.

i have never had an issue with cd's sticking in the unit and 90% of the cd's that have ever been it mine are CDRW as i burn new cd's every week

also a neat trick if you want to get all 6 cd's out the easy way is to hold the eject button down for a few seconds and they all will pop out one after another (this works with the stezza on or off) and also if you don't remove a cd after you eject it it will take it back in after a short time

What works:

CDR CDRW and originals if they don't it's the program your using to burn them

What doesn't

MP3 cd's, DVD's

For a successful burn;

Buy good quality japanese CD-R / CD-RW discs.
- TDK, Tayo Yuden (best), Sony
- Dont buy no-name brands or cheap stuff like Laser
- Dont buy blank CD-AUDIO discs! They have bad bits purposely added to the data surface as a Copy-protection measure, and are hard to rip. Plus some CD players may skip if it finds bad data bits.

Buy a decent CD/DVD burner.
- LG, Plextor, and Pioneer are good.
- Try to avoid Ricoh. Sony (rebadged Lite-On Drive) arent that great but are ok.
- Dont use a laptop to burn CD-R. Laptops lack laser power and have problems burning especially at high speed.

Use a decent CD/R burning application
- Nero and Easy CD Creator are good.
- Ensure you close the CD-R Session/Disc so normal CD players can play them.

Hi guys,

Can the 6 CD-Stacker in the Euro read CD-RW? (Note the 'RW')

Thanks,
V

I used to have Euro 04 which can use CD-RW on all 6 CD stackers. Never have problems with it. You just have to burn CD-RW as normal CD format, not the mp3 files in it. Before Euro, My civic Gli 02 also can take CD-RW without any problems as well. fyi,my mate's Mazda6 stackers also can read CD-RW..
hope this helps..

This was that thread I think ;)

On my Euro's 6CD HU, both CD-R and CD-RW play flawlessly.

CD-R is TDK mostly.
CD-RW is TDK too.

Burnt on a desktop at 32x using an LG DVD-RAM drive.

ps. For what its worth, I used to get really bad CD-R playback on my 3yr old Sony HU when I burnt the CD-R's on a laptop. But the Desktop LG and Sony/Lite-On DVDRW+CDRW drive(s) always burnt perfect discs.

The Renault I had until last week would play CD-R's and CD-RW's fine, but it wouldn't play copy-protected original CDs. The only way to play all the Sony and EMI CDs that were "copy-protected" was to make a copy of them. The copied disc always played fine.

So now for all my CD collection I have copies for the car and the originals just stay on the shelf at home. No problems playing any in the Euro, although the cheap discs I use tend to scratch pretty easily and then they start to skip tracks and jump. Haven't tried a CD-RW but seems that they work fine.

As far as the satnav luxury goes, there is no way that it will play MP3 discs. Personally I would have thought that all cars sold in 2006 should include MP3 playback, but I guess you can't have everything.

Remember that its the CD writer as well that determines car cd player compatibility.

Ive burnt some TDK CD-R's with a crappy CD burner and it would skip and pause in the car. I also burnt onto some crappy laser CD's with a good LG CD burner and had no problems ;)
