When a muffler shop makes you up a muffler/axle-back piece, is usually done from scratch or is the OEM part 'sacrificed' in making the new bit?

Also, do they normally permanently weld it onto the b-pipe or put a flange on?

I guess what im asking is, can they make you up an axle-back piece which bolts onto the b-pipe so that you can interchange it with the OEM part as you wish? About how much would this cost?

you'd have to specify what you want done to the person who is doing the work for you.
they can certainly make a flange for you so you can interchange from OEM to your own system.

with cost, contact your local exhaust specialist and get quotes on what you want done.
better yet, book an appointment to do a proper quote in person... :D

yep i will certainly do that when i get a chance.

just wanting to get an idea of the cost so that i could compare

a) Brand name aftermarket bolt on system
b) Muffler shop system
c) Sourcing an additional oem part and a muffler and knocking up a diy part

i have a trust power extreme II catback, bolt on for EKhatches which im thinking of parting of, gonna sell it for about as much as a local custom job will cost! pm me if ur interested!

id say either go local custom job as long as its mandrel bent and done at a reliable exhaust shop, or if u can source a 2nd hand bolt on system for similar pricing, then why not!
