Posting this on behalf of a mate who is buying an EG with the intention of putting in a B16A. He wants to get one with all the power options and likes the VTi because of the sunroof option. Basically what I need to know is which one is easier to do a B16A conversion on? Is there an difference at all between the two that would affect the conversion? He will be buying a manual car and also he wants it to remain reliable and trouble free (as it wil be driven daily) after the conversion so what are the chances of this happening? Are there any common problems?

Thanks guys

Why not do a B18 conversion....

Doesn't matter which model as they are nearly both the same, only difference is maybe 2 wires, nothing worth worrying about for a conversion.

Does that goes the same with converting a B18 in a EK civic

depedns which EK ur talking about..
if EK4, it'd be a bolt-out/bolt-in job as the b-series mounts are there already..

So is the conversion simple? Will it be reliable if the motor is in good condition? And also how much more will a B18 cost over a B16A?

im pretty sure a b18c is about 2-3k dearer than the b16a... all depends on AUDM/JDM cond. of motor etc...
i wanted to do it in a vti for a while coz the sunroof does look nice, but the vti is heavier because of options like the sunroof, si is prob the lightest EG, but for off-street it would be fine, would be my choice, the extra weight wouldnt bother me.. id be considering a b18c if he has the extra $$$ lots more torque, better engine IMO

Just do a b16a and b18c search, you'll find stacks of info..

i believe doing either of those swaps can be very reliable, but its bound to cause him some headaches, buying a car with these engines stock is usually more reliable i think, but we cant buy our EG's with B-series engines here unfortunately

Doesnt matter what car u put it in
D-serise and B serise mount points are the same eventhough the engine mount is different.

i'd prefer a Si for the conversion no sunroof is better and no chassis flex around the roof

What makes the Si much lighter mate? Don't both models have the same features like air, steer and power windows etc? I thought the only diff was a sunroof.

not really, if ur willing to do the hunting. my mate got one for 6 gz, basically stock. that was in SA too, cars tend to be a bit more expensive here.

in my opinion 35kg weight difference is still quite considerable ;)
by the way the Si and VTi both came with optional air conditioning at the time..

That is the first problem with your post. :p No offence mate, its just Redbook is well known for posting bullshit and wrong information.

However it is logical as the VTi came with sunroof that that would be where the extra weight would located.

late models came with traction control, but NOT ABS. i have a 4/95 VTi, one of the last ones made. no ABS.
