i got given a small turbo off a Z32, and was just wondering wat sort of things need to be done to make it fit on my civic vti sohc.
exhaust manifold, dump pipe, exhaust, piping, can the ecu be re-mapped or will u need another one?
i will only want to run 5psi at the max, as more than that will mean more money to upgrade other components

stock injectors can handle 5psi ok. u'll also need oil lines, but thats about all the essentials. check to see what the stock wastegate of the turbo can give u though, it may be something like 8psi. if thats the case, u will need injectors or a rising rate FPR also.

stock injectors can't handle 5 psi if you chip the ecu as they aren't too far off of peak duty cycle at stock. Rising rate fprs are a wonderful way to cut out the most important part of any turbo set up. Also a wonderful way to blow your engine from complete lack of tunability.

there is the right way(injectors + chipped ecu/standalone/some other proper engine management) and there is the wrong way(rising rate fpr/vafc hack/etc) of doing it. Both will get the car running, how well and how long it will last is another story.

and 5 psi, is far from the limit of the stock internals on a well tuned set up

It’s not the best idea to build your turbo setup around a turbo you have, will probably be cheaper and more effective to an already proven setup. It will probably cost you less money in the long run.

i'd suggest a stand alone, eg. microtech and some good 440cc or better yet 550cc, better fuel pump and external wastegate. to be on the safer side

about $150+ per injector, and $400ish for the pump. good wastegate is $600+

correct me if i'm wrong :D

i disagree entirely

kits are sold to make money... sourcing the parts individually can always be done cheaper than buying an extremely over priced kit.

and there's no need for 550cc injectors for 5 psi of boost

I think a small t25 size turbo, your wrong. stock injectors can do the job and do it well. they run a max of 80% duty cycles stock, and after ur looking at ~95% duty cycles. Sure it isnt perfect, but greddy kits running 5psi non-intercooled for 5 years, PROVE that it is reliable and very possible.

There are 3 ways to turbo a honda, the wrong, the expensive and the cheap.

Saying this, expensive doesnt mean the right way. Ive seen plenty of built engines rebuilt after 5k because os spun bearings, piston slap and detonation. For every built engine ive seen destroyed, iv seen someone run for 3 years on a AFC Hack. Its all about ur goals and ur budget.
