I've previously used Endless and EBC Green Stuff on my 99 Ek in the past... Would recommend Endless if u have the $$$. One of the main prob i had, was that u gotta get some heat in2 them b4 they really start 2 bite. A cheaper alternative would b bendix... can get the all from Autobarn

IMO stick to OEM honda pads if u just drive on the streets (as sumone mentioned above...)
if u get high performance pads.. they'll wear out the rotors/disks quicker...

ive got some Endless NAs on my Crx *they were the only ones made for the EF*

They stop great! So great - that I stopped in no time - and the girl in a brand new Mazda 6 didn't... hehe...

I say go Endless... they are just what the doctor ordered in terms of improved braking, but not to the point where they will wear out your rotors at an excessive rate

Stick with the oem ones if its only for general use. Bendix would be another cheaper option...

When it is said that the rotors wear out faster is this because the pad itself is more abrassive than say the stock pads?

high performance pads do use a combination of different types of materials to improve "bite" and it is logical to assume that if there is more bite - the material it is biting against will wear faster... simple... OEM pads are deisgned to provide good braking power while keeping in mind the life of the rotor...

the more specialised pads assume that the owner has money to replace rotors as well because they are specifically designed to stop cars in a race situation... having said this there are many pads on the market from OEM to street aggressive to track aggressive...

do your homework and see which applies best to you. All i can say is get a pad which has an operating temperature starting at 0deg and not higher than that, cos you are using them for a predominant road application and brakes are something you don't want to have to "warm up" in this situation.

Well that makes sense. So in terms of longevity, how much faster would street aggressive pads go through the rotor compared to OEM?

hmmm tough one, cos it also comes down to how much you use your brakes hahaha... sounds dumb, but i use my gears a lot and then touch my brakes here and then... is your car auto or manual? are u a competent driver or newbie? then comes down to how hard u drive...

even on an OEM pad, some guys could wear them down faster than say i wear down my more aggressive pad... sorry i have no definiteive answer for you on that one..

I get what you are saying. Just meant on average. For example what these more aggressive pads use up the rotor twice as fast as say OEM?

hmm ok on a manual car OEM pads should last you 80K of "normal" driving and the rotors i would recommend to change around a similar interval (not many people would agree with me here) but your street agressive pad might last 60k of the same type of driving?

I had OEM pads on my DC2R for 40K and there was still plenty of meat left and then i changed them to Endless NA-S and they lasted another 40K with plenty of meat... in between i changed the rotors to spoon slotted items and if you ask the new owner i think he shoudl agree that they are still ok hahaha (turns to vtecaccord)...my OEM rotors were also still fine (i just changed them as a matter of course).

but i have seen pads f'd after 40k-50K... dunno what people do with them... lots of twisties and HARD braking i guess...

Instead of starting a new thread, what are opionions on Bendix pads compared to OEM honda pads. Its only for daily driving so dont need anything special. Its it worth saving a few bucks and get Bendix or stick to OEM honda?

I have an auto civic and clicked over 60k so far. Last service (<5000k ago) they said that front pads are 30% left so would have to change before next service most likely.

Advice?

Is Bendix cheaper than OEM?

the only bendix pad i have tried is Metal King and it is ok...but as the name goes, expect it to work through your rotors on heavy braking...

I really can't go past OEM...in my relatively low knowledge of braking systems, pads, etc i would challenge anyone to be able to compare OEM to a branded pad on a street driving application.

I really don't think on a daily driver folk should be using more aggressive pads unless they are really intending on working their car out on the street - which doesn't really happen that much anyways.

So Bendix or no Bendix ? :)

**Ghost**
13-06-2005, 10:57 PM
bendix metal kings are really good for braking power but they tend to wear out pretty quickly... i raped my front ones in less than 5000kms... but i think that was due to like 4 sessions of twisties a week

rofl only 5000kms !!!

Hmm that isnt very encouraging to say the least :P

Wow .. so many replies thanks for all the feedback guys ..
Type one i think im like you, use the gears to brake more then the actual brake ..

im not taking my car to the track or anything like that .. but i do drive alot so i want something that lastest long but brakes good and from what ive read up there .. you can only chose one :( either good brakes that wear out quick or not really good ones that last long ..

a few more questions ... these endless brakepads how much do they cost?
and are the bendix worth getting?
and what on earth is greenstuff o_O

thanks

Greenstuff is also a brand of pads.

Green stuff is made by a company called EBC, they're good if you're planning on changing to a nice set of wheels as they don't give out much brake dust at all(paid around 200 for these)! I got my Endless ones a long time ago, paid around 300 i think

I am running EBC Greens now.. good feel BUT i liked the Endless NA-S (dust free pads) i had before... a little more Bite - but that could have been cos the caliper was bigger as well hahahaha

you won't go wrong with either brand. I think Trav is selling winmax pads as well... they pretty good i hear on all accounts.

That is pretty good. How did your rotors look when you changed pads?

probably irrelevant thread but:

does anyone know what the minimum allowable thickness the 262mm rotor is before i´m supposed to get a new one?

vinnY

min thickness is 19mm ron

Awesome. thanking you sir!!!

knowing my recent badluck, my rotors would probably shatter and destroy my entire hub assembly at 10km/h
