So what is the real price then? At $1280 I would still only take one.

Next question, will a Mugen cat back bolt directly onto a VTi-R cat?

mine didn't :) the mugen is bigger/has the bolts in a different position. then again mine was made for an ITR so i had to get an ITR cat as well...which lead to having to get the extractors too cos the connectors wouldn't fit...LOL

other alternative is chop and weld...unless of course it really is bigger than the stock exhaust? i think mine is 2.25"...vtir stock might be 2"? Someone confirm this...i might be talking shit

When you mean bigger? do you mean longer or bigger in diameter? So there is no way to keep the stock header and cat without having to cut into the Mugen cat back?

djgarv

i meant bigger in diameter but i don't know that for sure. if it is...then yeah i guess?

correct me if im wrong, but i think that there are mugen twip loop exhausts for VTiR's.
that fit straight on. i think faijai was selling his long time ago, and it would of fitted straight on...
i dont know, im pretty sure though...

mate, it cost more than 1280.. if there is a supplier who can sell mugen dc2 full catback for 1280... i dont mind getting a few sets for myself..

it is so cheap... they are about 1695 inclusive delivery.. thats at least the price im selling...

Yeah I know I wouldn't get one for $1280, maybe thats US dollars or something. How is the Mugen catback for the VTi-R different to the one for the Type R. If I plan to buy a header and change the cat anyway in the future, would it be easier to just buy the Type R one? What I am worried about is that if I buy the cat back and fit it with modification to my stock cat, when I buy the header and hi flow cat they won't bolt straight on to the cat back as it has already been modified. Basically i don't want to have to cut into the pipe.....

for mugen TW for teg's u have to use the jdm cat or aftermarket cat in order to bolt it on

Wazza
14-06-2005, 04:26 PM
But the JDM cat then won't bolt on to a stock header will it?

no
jdm headers are mostly 2.5"
unless u find a very old pre 96 cat which is 2.25"

what u can do here
is get the catback and aftermarket hi flow done at one go
then in future
u modify the front of the hi flow which mates to the header, that's it

I sell the cat backs for $1760...$1280 is a bargain!!!

So basically there is no cat that will bolt straight onto a JDM header and a Mugen exhaust? Depending on the cat I buy, I will have bolt on one side, and the other with a weld?

tanghy
14-06-2005, 07:48 PM
if u have a jdm header and mugen exhausat, off the shelf cat which will fit with no probems is a jdm cat off a CTR or ITR (jdm)

Ok I am dumb... but,

The collector on JDM headers are 2.5 inch correct, while exhausts like the Mugen twin loop cat back is 2.25 inch? So do I buy a 2.5 inch cat or a 2.25 inch cat? I am unsure how 2.5 inches decreases into 2.25 inches at the cat... What i am basically after is a cat so the whole exhaust system from engine block to exhaust tip requires no welding... is this possible? And as I want to buy the exhaust now and get the header later on, I understand to use the stock header with the Mugen exhaust will require welding, so do I buy a cat to bolt on to the exhaust without cutting or welding, or use the original cat until i buy the header or what? Sorry Tangy I didn't really understand what you meant about the JDM ITR and CTR cat. Sorry to have to ask you guys all this, but being from Tassie I have been to a few exhaust places and their remark was "What's Mugen?"

i strongly suggest that u buy both header & catback together & get a jdm cat at the same time
that will solve all the problems u have at one go

That would be included in the cat-back wouldnt it???
cat-back is everything from the cat back, so he would need just the cat-back and headers.

Correct me if im wrong :)

You would think so hey Paul... But cat back means "after the cat back", its a scam...

Tanghy, thanks for your input mate, so you would suggest a ITR or CTR cat?? how much are they do you know? What about the S2000 cat that Adrian rates the best would that work?

tanghy
15-06-2005, 12:00 AM
s2000 you still have to weld and cut, honestly i wno't really trust the exhasut people in your "rural" place
so just get a jdm ITR/CTR cat (same thing)

tanghy
15-06-2005, 12:01 AM
also how on earth are u going to find a s2000 cat in your backyard?

Wazza
15-06-2005, 12:07 AM
Rural place lol, yeah Tassie is pretty dull I must agree, the hardest exhaust jobs they do here are dump pipes on vl commodores. I could buy an S2000 cat from my friendly local Honda dealer for $1800, but I was hoping on getting a second hand one from one of the Traders on here.. Tanghy arn't you involved in trading? How much are ITR and CTR cats?

EG5
15-06-2005, 01:15 AM
so you going to spend $1800 in an S2000 cat?

jdm type R cat is $250

lol sorry can't help but think you're all sounding like a bunch of lawyers trying to define what the law defines as cat, back
i know i'm not helping
but my experiences was...it needed jdm headers, connnectors and cat fullstop. even if everything is 2.25", the holes are just a in a different place and the mugen exhaust could not bolt onto my vtir cat.

Why would you pay such extreme amounts for cats, u can get a proper high flow for like 200 fitted and that should end up giving you a cat that doesnt need that stupid donut gasket just a normal one which is a lot easier to get to seal. Also elimintes the use of those pain in the arse springs that end up rattling (this is also on a stock virginised exhaust when i noticed that problem).
