How correct is this statement regarding FWD cars?

When you launch a car off the line, the weight gets transferred to the back, now with the weight at the back of the car the front wheels are going to lose alot of traction under power, in a rear wheel drive car the weight shift actually helps the rear wheels put the power to the ground (ie - alot harder to spin).

It's correct.

Yes. It is true. Altho most RWD cars i know seem to spin the wheels anyway !

it's true. it's also one of the most compelling reasons to pick a rwd car over a fwd car.
i pick fwd because i enjoy living in denial :)

Generaly True. But it depends if your talking general or specific. With the right setup of suspension (stiffer rear.....), a FWD can actualy have better traction then the RWD, but then again thats quote was probably a generalisation which is true.

can have better traction than a poorly sorted rear end, maybe.

I like driving rear wheel powered cars over front , for sure.... But only if the rear wheel car has over 200kw ATW :D

you could always bag the accelerator while in reverse if ya wanna lay more traction!

the statement is true. prob is, people with RWD cars often have to stiffer spring rates in the rear, and whelspin instead of powering down and saying goodbye... drive an M3 for the best idea, they really have rear end squat, and their overall handling is on par with anything

It's true, but doesn't stop the fastest ice racer cars being FWD. In fact, they were 1st gen Civics and 2nd gen CRXs. It lead to a whole new FWD class of ice racers being created as the RWD boys were .. ummm.... out in the cold ;)

i think the M3 is a little heavy to be considered a awesome handling car. But that's not what it was designed for anyway!

I didn't choose FWD... just came with my bloody honda. Having owned a fairly high powered RWD vehicle before... i didn't particularly enjoy severe lack of traction it had in the wet.

AWD however... it's amazing!!

anyway to answer ur question... the general theory is correct, but of course not entirely accurate for every situation.

Why don't people like generalising statements? Maybe its cause most Honda's are FWD.

I'd say that statement is true 99.9% of the time.

Obviously you have never driven an M3...... talk about ownage of any FWD, an M3 would axe murder ANY FWD..... ANY!!!!!! In fact, an E46 M3 would own almost any road car on any track... yes, any car.....

you have no idea....
