View Full Version : Premium or just normal unleaded?
I'm going to refuel my tank soon. Just wondering what sort of petrol ur Jazz is eating...
When I check the book, unlike the European version it suggests only use of normal unleaded thanks to its Australian version design
Before getting the car I was thinking to use Mobil Synergy 6000 or even 8000. I've heard some positive reviews on them and the station is just nearby :D
But now I'm confused...

I'd got BP Ultimate..
I've had my car's engine opened up two times (Camshaft and Engine Work), the first time I had it opened up I was running on Shell Optimax, the amount of carbon put me off that time, I was advised to switch to BP Ultimate and the second time (about 4-5months later) I opened up the engine for more work, the build up of the black stuff had reduced significantly...
I think Jazz runs on Regular Unleaded in Australia..
BP Ultimate
the way to go man... i was running normal unleaded when i got the car... but i just got turbo so i had to change the injectors.... you should see the amount of shit in there... Ultimate is suspose to have injector clearner added to it and it does help...
I would like to use high octane petrols for my Jazz but will it void the warranty? I believe using them is good for the engine but don't want to get into trouble while doing services at Honda

I usually fill up with Shell normal unleaded, occasionally with their Optimax, since Shell is the closest to my house and I can accumulate some Fly Buys point......BUT..... after reading this thread, I am going to switch to BP Ultimates now......
My mate in the WRX Club told me like 2-3yrs ago that all the WRX members say BP Ultimate is much better than Shell Optimax.........but didn't listen to him as Shell was closer............... oh well, my loss!

I think each has their own preference... I have tried Mobil for 1 month, Shell for 1 month and then BP.. (RON 98).. Somehow I've got the feeling that BP gives me a bit more response and smoother ride.. (probably just my feelings??). Some said Shell Optimax is better..
Very hard.. stick to whatever you feel better for the car I will say.

If you use BP Ultimate, try to advance a little bit timing to get a little bit possible power.

Just beware. there are 3 types of premium.. RON95 and RON98...
BP Ultimate (RON98)
BP Premium Unleaded (RON95)
However,
Mobile Synergy 8000 is RON98.
Mobile Synergy 6000 is RON96. (<--- ???)

is this something vtec controller does or is it possible to adjust timing on vtec as isnt it always variable?

Not very sure about Shell.. but I just did a search.. they have 4 types.. (confuse the sh*t out of ya.. :D ) I cut and paste..
(1) Unleaded (RON 91)
(2) Unleaded 95
Shell Unleaded 95 has a minimum Research Octane Number of 95 and is designed for use in many new vehicles which are designed to run exclusively on high octane fuels. Many new car manufacturers are now producing vehicles that require fuels with a minimum octane rating of 95, a level that will eventually become the base standard for all unleaded fuels. While many new car drivers will choose a premium fuel, like Australia’s favourite 98 octane Shell Optimax, fuels with an octane rating of 95 will also provide a highly suitable alternative.
(3) Premium Unleaded
Shell Premium Unleaded has a minimum Research Octane Number of 95 and is designed for use in many imported and high performance vehicles which are designed to run exclusively on high octane fuels. Many vehicles are equipped with knock sensors which retard the engine when running on 91 octane Unleaded Petrol. These vehicles will benefit in power and economy when running on Shell Premium Unleaded Petrol.
(4) Optimax

go for BP ULTIMATE, i use it everyday driving. Better boost for engine acceleration, smooth the rev up a bit, more power after 160km/h too.
I just found that Jazz VTi-S has a compression ratio of 10.4. According to my research on google, it's suggested to use RON 95 or 98 unlead for high compression ratio engine (>9.8).
Can someone explain why Honda Australia still recommends RON 92 unlead for Jazz??

loo.. so, what compression ratio is suggested to use RON95 and above? Anything greater than 9.8 compression ratio? Seems like a lot of car is more than 9.8

Whilst the Jazz engines have a pretty high compression, they are tuned to run on 91 RON fuel, so it won't be an issue....
I guess the reason they did this was because not many people buying an entry level type car would be too keen on running premium fuel as it adds to the running cost of the car.
I only ever run on 91RON and have no problems
Normal unleaded for me...
