hi,
i've been meaning to do this for a while now, just havent been able to find any info on how this can be done.
Do you have some kind of write up on where you sourced your parts and how you actually put it all together?

I purchased most of the parts locally, only the touch screen and the m-1 ATX shut down controller/PSU that I purchased from the US. You can get them here www.mp3car.com.

Most important thing for putting a computer in car is power supply. Just need a way to hibernate and boot the pc when you turn off and start the car, but also keep the pc alive under engine cranking. Quite abit of research was done before I went ahead with the install. However forum on www.mp3car.com has most of the info for you to get started.
I would be more than happy to offer my 5 cents based on my own experience if anyone want to build one up! :D There are so many tricks in doing it that I just cant put it in words now. Try seeing my install pics first, not alot but a picture means 10 thousand words I guess.
Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to explain and probably show you where to get the parts cheap, if not cheapest in Sydney! :)

Nice install .
The screen looks really good in the dash there. Are you at all worried about heat? When I looked at people building these units (it was quite a while ago) heat was a big concern within the car and destroying components?
Looks good man u put some effot in and it paid off looks heaps neat!
The only negative thign is the wiring in the boot looks messy, u took such a effort in the front is it messy in the back so u can still move it around??
But over all thats awesome! Wat program is that its sick??

Looks so good for navigating!

I also recommend www.mp3car.com (http://www.mp3car.com/) as a good place to start (although havent been on there in ages).

Heat was never a problem with my sys. the screen just feel abit warm, definitely not as warm as my old Alpine deck that I took off.
So far, nothing yet is broken still, fingers crossed. :)

Yeah, I have to admit the boot is messy. My plan was to build a false floor with MDF and carpet it and hide the wiring and everything below. Just that I am too lazy... but now I might need to take the system out because I am thinking of trading the car in for a Euro, but then I will miss my carpc setup... :(

Nice man... I really like INCARPC, I have been reading alot of article and method of doing it. Never know that someone in this forum actually done it
Btw, do u use AC-DC Power converter? because if you power up ur pc straight from the battery you need the converter
Cheers

Nah, I dont use invertor at all. I have that M1-ATX DC-DC convertor/regulator which is also a shut down controller all in one device. This is very neat i reckon!
Nice work......he's certainly put a great deal of effort into it, and it pays off!
So...when are you coming to my place and help to build my system?? :D

at the moment, i have no limit, as long as the price is reasonable and negotiable. Been saving for a while now to do something to my car. I just havent figured out what i wanted to do...and i guess this Car PC thing is a good place to start. So yeah please either drop me a PM or email me on zeu569@tpg.com.au if you decide to sell it.

Maybe you can start here http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=68
or here http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=56
For australia, you will need the maps on the Destinator 3 software for PPC CD to work on the Map monkey thing.
