what you guys think to install a K&N pod infront of OEM air intake pipe?

is it a good idea, or should i buy a CAI pipe to totaly replace the OEM pipe?

whats wrong with using OEM pipe instead of CAI pipe? as most of people i have seen here are using CAI pipe instead of OEM intake pipe.

Replace the whole thing, there are restrictions within the OEM piping itself (Namely, resonators and bends). You want the airflow to be as smooth as possible...

i have dyno results that show ( on my car atleast) that by using the stock intake pipe yielded better results.....i never thought that would be the case.

So basically, what i had before was a 2 piece CAI and now i just have the lower half of the CAI connected to the stock rubber intake pipe.

I read somewhere that the resonator actually benefited the performance compared to those stainless types with out a resonator and it was noticable when i put the rubber intake on...saying this a h22a intake pipe is 3" in diameter anyway.
it might be different for other honda engines but i think honda got it right when they designed it for the h22a....ive just added a CAI.

here are the results.
yes, i know the tourque correction for the dyno is way out. but the power readings are fairly spot on...anyways, i have only posted to show you the difference in power ...all three runs were done on the same dyno.

car was run in 4th gear for the last run.

1st chart is f22b with 2.5" catback and full simota CAI with the h22a with same mods overlapped- i had the chart made like this for comparision sakes.

2nd chart is h22a with stock intake pipe and CAI with simota and 2.5 inch catback

i recently installed a K&N filter and i noticed the extra oomph straightaway...yet to be dynoed

Yes, the 2 charts probaly dont mean much but i sure did notice the difference in power ( in a good way) when i put the stock intake pipe back on.

obviously it is going to be better sitting the pod infront of the oem cold air than nothing... the aftermarket ones are pretty much straight through where as the original resinator is a big arse box with bends and loops and poor flow.

but is still far better than sitting next to no inlet at all

basically i m buying this K&N POD filter,

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21337

and thinking to try it first on EOM airintake pipe, thats why asked this questin to findout others experience with it.

was planning to buy pannel K&N but then changed my mind to try this POD first.

ok cbf reading all of it-- but i think if u remove the resi box out n stuff--- u should be able to just install the filter on the piping.
u most probably wont get the greatest roar of the HONDA but it should be quite good because the standard piping should be extremely well heat resistant-

with OEM.... there s plenty of restrictions .. if u take ur front bar off and have a look in there... u ll notice... plus u would be suckin a lot of hot air in the engine bay ... whihc is no good....if u r a tight ass like me... DIY urself a CAI....

oh also run a cold air feed to it- where the original intake resinator would sit- run the cold air feed from bottom to inside engine bay under the pod it should sit- or around there-

ummz. use brakets to secure the pod firmly- if u want make a heat shield.

thats what i got, but coz that black rubber pipe was the EXACT same size of the pod oppening, i had to get a smaller 5cm section of 79mm pipeto put betwwen the rubber and the pod

yes, you are right, they both pipes are of same size, but you can slip over filter's pipe on OEM inlet pipe.

what should i do about these air inlet pipes (resonator) which are next to battery? is it ok to leave them open like this or should i close them with something, or do i have need to take that whole balck box (resonator) out ??? pls advise, thanks.

I'm interested to see the dyno results comparing,

1. stock intake pipe and simota pod as in the pic
2. short ram intake stainless steel pipe and simota pod

atm, correct me if i'm wrong, but in the two comparisons done by h22a, the simota air filter is positioned differently?
