Hey,
just wondering if any one else hears a click sound when they brake.
only happens the first time i press the brake pedal.
Appears to happen more often when i leave her parked for a while.

Spoke to Honda about it and they noticed it too but said not to worry as the brakes are working ok..... hmmmm. Not convinced

Don’t really wanna be driving round with faulty brakes if ya know what i mean???

anyone else come across this in their jazzes?

well... it has been a well known issue with most of the honda cars.... :)
i am not 100% sure i remember but i heard its something to do with gaps between pads and discs... it will happen every first you apply your brakes after you've change directions...
there was a TSB for that for ACURA MDX and what they did was just put a shim between the pads and discs (so shortening the gaps)

but as what your dealer said.. its nothing to worry about... apart from the annoying sounds :p
but again its like the clicking sound you will hear from the auto trans. when you shift from P to D and you hear the click sound and honda claims its protecting the gears to go crazy

jamchen,
man that doesn’t sound too good if its a well known issue then shouldn’t Honda do somthing about it???
Yeah ure right about it happing every first time you apply the brakes but haven’t really noticed it happening after changing directions???

if its related to the distance between the brake pads and the disc, does that mean that as the brake pads wear and become thinner the click noise will become louder???

Might just have to get used to it. Whets funny though is that gf didn’t notice it till i mentioned it and now it annoys her more than it annoys me!

btw whets a TSB???

How old is that car dude? How many Ks have you done?

Haven't notice anything on my Jazz (done about 9,000km), perhaps I didn't pay attention. However, I have noticed it in my other car and also on my friends car. (non-Honda).. Only happen when you break the first time of the day or sometimes change direction..

I don't think it is something to worry about.. IMO.

sorry its not Jazz... but you can check if you have the same symptom..
just to let you know i actually printed out the PDF and brought it to honda dealer they they simply say when i picked up the car that it only works for US MDX and they are not available for Australia...
THEY ALL MADE IN CANADA!! :(
and just correcting my previous statement, the sound is actually that the brakes don't slide in smoothly....

nah..
it's probably the switch for the brake light
it happens on a lot of new cars..
my dad's commodore did that till it reached 80000kms..
its not too much of a hassle

After my period in the toilet I went to my car and wanted to see if there were any click sounds and Yes I found one.....

I hear an internal click, its near the brake pedal, sounds like the brake pedal spring or something, very very faint..... is this what you guys are talking about? if so, just put on some grease and problem gone :)

mate yours is another thing (coz its not a problem/issue)
a V6 Accord.. an auto right?
its the safety design they help to prevent sudden fowarding that may happen..
i believe you can't shift from P to anyother gear without step on brake... otherwise the gear is locked... so the click sound you heard is when the gearbox released the lock...
its abusolutely normal

thanks again for the replies guys,
so it sound like i'm not the only one with a clicky brake issue.
It also sounds like there not too much to worry about

or....

Do you guys reckon its worth while taking this up any further with honda australia???
as in, asking my local honda dealer to have a closer look at it??
Maybe if enuf jazz owners bring it up... something might actually come of it?
u know the whole power in numbers thing.

Cheers,

I had the same noise with my 02 CRV and there was a TSB for it. It was fixed under warranty. They replaced the clips that was causing the noise.

Im surprised they don't apply the same fix for other models.

I think it is the movement of the brake pads. Usually dealer put some stuff between the caliper and pads, that will fixed the problem. Had this problem with my preious civic.

yeah they put what they called "shims" so the movement of pads can be more gentle to minimise the noise... but i dun think its a safety concern issue :D

I told the guys at Astoria Honda and they also said it isn't a problem. They looked at it and they said they applied some grease. I don't get the click anymore. Anyway my old corolla always seems to have that click so I wasn't bothered about it but they still fixed it anyway. Tell them at your next service and they will do it for free.

cheers.
