was travelling along parramatta road when all of a sudden the engine stopped..

tried to start her again but wouldnt turn over. Just kept on cranking.

called up nrma, became a member.. pouring rain and got back in my car.. after an hour later and a hundred beeping cars.. they arrive.. told me my ignition is dead.. then got it towed home..

can anyone recommend me a good mechanic to get it fixed or even places to get second hand ignition systems for the civic breeze 1.5litre dual carby engine.

Im in western suburbs blacktown area.

Really need to get her running asap but as cheaply as possible :)

nrma guy said ignition systems for these cars can range from around 600 -1000 dollars :(

is he right? or does someone have a bette way of getting it fixed..

im all ears.. thanx guys

Depends if it's the whole ignition or just the ignition coil. I recently had my coil replaced. Cost me $200 installed. Stupid me...Apparently when polishing the engine with a dremel on the metal part of the distributor it may have short circuited the whole pack.

could be your coil or ignition modual ( igniter ).

The same has happened to me, car died while driving. Twice actually, first time - Coil pack, second time - rotor. Those are the main suspects, test the coil with a multimeter and also by looking at it (may look worn or short-curcuited). The coil needs a good current from one end to the other. Also, look at your distributor cap, there needs to be only the slightest gap between the rotor terminals and the distributor cap points. Since theres arcing occuring between these gaps with each spark, they slowly wear out and become further apart (in my case, a part of the rotor completely fell off). If you open it all up you should be able to see the problem.

With your question about good mechanics, it's hard since we dont know your location haha. On the North-Side of Brisbane, on the corner of Maundrell Tce and Hamilton Rd theres a BP with a mechanical repairs centre. The mechanics name is Russel - knows exactly what he's doing (absolute mechanical and electrical genius), does only what you ask and what is absolutely needed (no suprises on the bill. Like an engine service when you only needed a new water pump), and charges very accordingly for the work he does (doesn't overcharge). He's my mechanic and have never had a need to change :)
