1. Will give you quicker acceleration at a sacrifice of top speed
2. You need to get a final drive set and change the countershaft and ring gear on your differential
3. If you can get it for your GSi......then go for it!

the "final drive" is the final gear/cog before power is applied to the differential , and thus the driveshafts and then to the wheels.

lowering this ration will lower your gearing and give quicker acceleration AFAIK.

expensive for a custom setup tho ?!?

Most probably because you have NFI what an increased final drive will really do.

I'd rather lower final drive, since when will i be going up to 200 ?

plus vtir vs type R (the two that i know of) the type R only starts beating the vtir when it's at about 90klms. From my observations this is only due to the fact that when the vtir when at 80 is in 2nd, the type R is in 3rd? ...

i donno i'm no expert

Lower final drive will be affect your max. speed in each gear. If you go 200+km/hr offen, not recommend.
Lower final drive will increase your accelaration in each gear. It will affect your fuel economy. If you drive sport car and care the fuel economy, not recommend. I heard one civic vtir with ATS 4.929 final drive, he can drive around 430-480km each tank on the street. Not on track or in mountain.

a friend in the states has a jdm vtir block, jdm type r tranny with ls final drive ratio. he had to use a custom/modified bellhousing but wont go into exact specs about it. all he will tell me he copied it from import tuner magazine....

anyone know anything about this?

Something like this is all you need (ATS)

Not sure what your what your friend did Joyride, but all you have to do is take the gearbox out, slide your gearset (synchro hub, gear etc) off the countershaft and put it onto the new countershaft. Then swapout the differential gear and put everything back in.

Not sure why he would have to modify the bellhousing' unless it was a cable box/b16a hydro box with factory LSD (which has some issues according to the ATS site.
