View Full Version : Sections for each STATE - NSW, VIC, SA, QLD etc

I was thinking since many threads seem to go offtopic or get hijacked quite often. I am suggesting a sub section for each state.
That way members/users can simply go to their state's section for quick local advice. Any one agree?

If nothing is done, i was thinking of starting a new Honda forum as this is the only one?

Ahhh yess........a valid point and something that I was planning on doing sometime after the forum grew. I guess the only benefit with the current system is that others get to see what's going on in other states without having to go to another forum, however it does all get very confusing!

Also, would this new format be only for events/meets? Because in a lot of other forums, peolpe also put spottings of other members, meets and events in there.

Lets get some feedback!

Sounds like a lot of work...not that I'll be doing any :p

So your idea is to implement this to which forum? The Lounge?

mr crex

in CRXAustralia we have sections for NSW, Vic, Sa, Qld, WA, Tas/ACT/NT (as there arnt a great deal of members from these states)

basically its a general discussion section for each state, with all threads allowed (beside explicit etc.) whether they be chit chat, events, cruises, spotting, news etc. aslong as it relates to that state its a.ok

having State sections would eliminate the problems that have arouse with cruise threads becoming excessive with general chit chat and 10+ pages, it would also be easier to track cruise discussion threads if they are in state sections and not the lounge as the lounge section is quite active and new threads are started constantly and end up moving current discussion threads to page2 etc. and members not noticing the thread.

would be a very good idea in my opinion.

cruise thread for state based would be good...but i think separating tech knowledge is a bad idea (if anyone is thinking down this path)

I would think this would be in relation to the Events/Outings (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=47) forum and the lounge to stay as is ?

Shouldn't be too hard to implement....just have to move the existing threads over........thats all.

I would be more inclined to add "STATE SECTION" to the main index page of the forum with the listed stakes in the group

I was intending on changing the section called "Events/Outings" to say "Regional", remove the two forums called "Upcoming Events' and "Past events" and put in forums for each of the states there.

Putting the state forums in the Events/Outings section would limit their use to cruise/meet organisation only wouldnt it? In another section members could also post stuff like "wheres a good place to get a such-and-such?" etc etc

What im saying is, wouldnt there be more uses for the respective state forums other than just cruise/meets?

How about we have sub sections for the SPOTTED THREAD?...

the Spotted thread is getting a little bit difficult to spot the spots... how bout VIC, NSW, SA, WA sub

sections?.. just a suggestion...

For the state specific sections......I guess it won't be only just meets but also discussions relating to that specific state (EG road rules and things like that).

Maybe in there we can either have a spotted thread (stickied for each state/forum) or just let people post spotted threads as they happen within that (state specific)forum. Only thing with the latter is that it might get pretty messy ?

Lets get some more suggestions/opinions coming so we can finalise this :)

In regards to the state forums getting cluttered with shite, perhaps make guidlines in regards to posting about specific things (in the topic).

eg:

[SPOTTED] so-and-so
[MEET] dd/mm/yyyy

and such and such - similar to the traders forum, where they put their company/name/whatever in the topic.

EDIT: and those who do not follow guidelines will be killed or banned

lol Wyn isnt that what Mods are for ;) hahaha

if you just have a specific main section for each state and a mod keeping an eye on the threads like they normally do then should be fine, if a thread is not state based then just move it, if its a current cruise then sticky it.

post can be wateva aslong as it relates to that state.

no need for sticky and all that.
u can't have like 20000 meet stickies and no one can be bother reading through 6million pages in the spotted thread

With that, I think have the state sections for just events and stuff like that, but also, have a specific thread for spottos, don't just let it be willy nilly as you see them because it'll look like the lounge used to look like, too god dam messy! For NSW it will anyway!

I feel sorry for the poor sucker who will police THIS section! Haha.

Well, if the supposed event is titled accordingly/appropriately ie. [SYD],[MELB],[ADE],etc., I don't see why you would/wouldn't click on it if you are or are not interested.

That is why there is a format for posting events up in that forum. :)

yes but even if it says [NSW] or [ADEL] etc. for a cruise discussion thread doesnt mean it's going to be at the top of the 1st page for people to see, especially in the Lounge section, a cruise discussion thread might go up, then 15 threads about some celebrity showing her **** will send it to page 2, not all of us have the time or effort to go through pages, a state section will clean this up and hopefully keep interstate members from commenting in the threads and turning it into spam.

IMO splitting up states is like segregating up users.
eventually when a VIC user will post in a QLD section (for example), he's gonna get burnt then its all out forum wars. i've seen this happen in the past. although i know most OH members get along with each other well, it may still happen.

i'm all for the idea as long as things are properly controlled by mods. Maybe assign one or two more mods based on regions to police the respective sections?

Mike_
11-07-2005, 11:29 AM
It's not segregating users to have some state based discussion - It's a good idea and it works well in every forum that has it! Each forum should contain only a few things: a stickied spotted thread, cruise/meet organisation, ANY specifically state-based discussion (such as local autosalon, or local events) even those NOT pertaining specifically to honda (as long as its state based, including parts-for-sale that do NOT offer interstate shipping).

One or two state-specific mods should be assigned to each state with the intention of moving any non-state threads to their appropriate forum.

It would not be segregating users, as general off-topic convo would still be in the lounge - parts for sale should stay where they are - car based discussion would remain in the appropriate car-specific forums. The forums would function as normal, but be easier to access.

That's just my two cents - and I dont see why we wouldn't make this change!

[afterthought - people from interstate should still be able to post in another states forums, naturally assuming its on-topic!]

[afterthought 2 - Most people stick to state-specific threads as it is, since they are the most relevant]

Thats what I have also been trying to get accross with specific models of cars - title [EG], [EK], [ED Civic], [ED/EF Crx] makes everything so much cleaner and more organised.

i reckon have state sections that include stickies for spotted, upcoming cruises and weekly meets. then also have cruise eoi's, and state by state news like like police hotspots or road regulations etc
(i havent really thought it out but thats what came to mind atm)

other than that i dont really see a problem with how it is now.

Mike_
12-07-2005, 02:24 PM
Without state sections, the "spotted" thread is pretty much limited to NSW only, since nobody else bothers to check it... which sucks.

Also What people dont seem to be understanding is that nobody wants to sift through several pages of threads to find something relevant to their state.

for NSW im sure its fine since theres always 20 threads relevant to them, but for others it becomes a hassle.

The current way works, yes, but its just not good enough.

Sorry about the late reply but i've brought it up with the other mods and we've decided to keep it the way it is, except for a possible "EOI" forum for cruises.

Reason being is that based on other sites that have a similar setup, things get quite messy and hard to moderate. As long as we precede the thread title with the location (for example [BRIS]) things should be OK. If anyone would like to put their hand up to moderate the existing events section post back or PM me.

If you havea look at these sites for example
Pulsar Group Australia (http://forum.pulsar.org.au/forumdisplay.php?f=21)

I seem to think its best with some sort of state specific forum.

This is one of the most organised forums ive ever seen:

State specific works perfectly there! they're a decent sized (and very active) club, who are not segregated at all! There's nothing wrong with having somewhere to easily access threads specific to your state
