Hey all,

Ive being thinking about this for a lil while..thinking of transplanting either a AUDM K20A or JDM K20A (which ever is available) + gearbox into a EK4 hatchback. I was wondering if anyone on Ozhonda has done this transplant? if this topic has being covered can someone point me to the right post? Ive searched but no good. What parts would I need for the transplant? engine mount etc?? any help would be much appreciated!!

Well the jdmyard guys and stuff on this forum have the k20a eg drag car, im sure theyll be able to sort you out with some info.
I doubt you will get any change out of $15k tho, its a conversion id love to do but realistically cant afford.

question... why use an ek4 and not some other ek civic, seems to be a waste of an already good car.

Sunroof? Better brakes (I think?)..

Also I'd say the b16a + gearbox will be easier to unload to recover some funds then say a d series engine which will go next to nothing.

Personally i wouldn't want a sunroof and it might be a good idea to upgrade the brakes anyway. You can pick up standard ek's for alot cheaper than a vti-r

thats just the way I see it.

to put that engine into an ek4, would be a waste of money IMO.
ek4 has already got a very good engine.
unless ur engine is getting real old..and high km.
why not sell it, get a lighter civic, for example, EF, EG,
and put tat in there..

i would love to put a k20a in the eg, would be the best, EG5 on here has one with quad throttle bodies, bit of a weapon.

15k for the swap? I'm lookin to do this to my ek1. Would the 15k include putting it in, or just the engine & other assorted parts. Also, I've often wondered, would it even FIT in an ek1?

It would fit.... But new engine mounts would be needed and also wiring loom...
and many more......

Why not go for a B18 or a B20 both of those engines are good and also have alot of after market support... I heard the K series engine does not have much after market support yet.....

true. As to wiring loom & all that crap, I was just gonna get a half cut... But as to b18, they're not as powerful as k20a, are they?

dont listen to any of these softys above,

such an extreme engine swap is far beyond the scope most of these guys thinking...

just go direct to the source of all K20 swap info:

http://www.k20a.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13

for example:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db28b3127cce91dfba17a36500000016109Ias2zFq38

hope you have a 15k budget, then you will be wiping the smiles of most V8's and turbos around :D

Tinker, werent you doing this swap awhile ago? hows the swap going?

yeah, K24A/K20A into DC2 VTiR...

but seems weddings are expensive to have, unless sacrifices are made...

so it has been stopped and sold/selling parts.

dont worry, it is just a pause, not a halt, by the time i have 'car money' back, the swap will be cheaper anyways ;)

but i am currently the senior consultant* on a K20AR into a DC2R swap project, so i should be pretty versed up once it is finished...

EK is more complicated i think, but you just need to hybrid all the parts together, i.e. use some EG parts

still a very expensive proposition though :(

Well im tossing up either B18c (type R) or K20A...but K20A has better torque and a better balanced motor, as well as the fact its newer technology. I have no idea how much a K20A is gonna cost. A mate of mine told me that a mate of his is fitting a K24A into his ek4.

hmm you must have alot of money to be thinking of a k20a engine, especially in an ek4

as your description shows, you have no car at the moment. i rather buy a cheapaz ek1 and do the conversion taht way, you WILL save quite alot that way, unless u want teh sunroof and different seats...

i have an ek4 and have dreams of a b18c7 engine/gearbox...

k-series have plenty of aftermarket parts. Just get a cheap low model EK, no point spending extra for an ek4

K-series is the way to go, get a JDM spec EK to start with, that way you can use the factory B-series outer CV's and the factory DC5 axles, there is wiring looms available and mount kits to help you out, save yourself the hassle and get a Hondata aswell, it helps with the little tuning issues.
Any other question come along to www.K20A.org and talk to me and the other moderators. We have a couple of street driven K20 conversions in NZ.. aswell as a ton in the states that visit the forums..
