I see you have the MTX 8000s very nice subwoofer i had the 12" at one stage of my build. Will you be running the splits off an amplifier? doing so will make a huge difference in sound from the splits. As for the actual sound of the splits it'll be left up to personal preference as usual.

as for splits I have tried the pheonix gold splits and they provide very good value for money i even recommended them to a friend, he has 1 PG 15", PG splits and JVC rear fill 6x9s (i didn't recommend the JVCs but he had them from an old system). He runs the splits off an amplifier and i've only heard positive feedback from him RE:the splits, enough highs to match the lows. I now have splits from the ALPINE F1 range and these offer a lot of tunability (if that's a word LOL) also worth taking a look at but may cost a bit (~$1000).

ECLIPSE is quite an exclusive brand (exclusive to selected retailers), if you can find someone that sells them in melbourne seriously have a look at them. ECLIPSE products are VERY high in build QUALITY.

these (http://www.eclipse-web.com/component/sc8365.html) are some new 3 ways that ECLIPSE have released but i'm unsure whether they are available in australia yet. I'm also interested in these as i'm building a new system.

MB quart are a very good brand of speaker, very accurate sound, even in their lower range of stuff. For $300ish you can get JL components (6in), very nice sound too

well yeahI will definately be running the splits of a separate amp of course, and I was seriously considering the phoneix gold splits but there only 2 ways but pump out an amazing 300 wrms!!! I currently have some crap kenwood 3 ways in the rear but I am looking at just a decent upgrade nothing special at all just a better fill in speaker for these as the car is small i only really want some nice sounding splits in the front thse are the phoneix golds (http://auaudio.com/info.php?i=77&c=3&s=2) have a look at them and tell me if there good or not.
But what are these eclispe worth roughly and where to buy and listen to them??
Oh and yeah the MTX 8000 are fkn awesome subs man Im gonna put them in a sealed box soon there in a ported one for know and still sound pretty good but want that tight bass out of them

yeah if i'm not mistaken the mtx8000s were designed for sealed enclosures, i had a look at the phoenix golds and they look like they're pretty good (when i say good i mean build quality as sound is up to personal taste),

what kind of music do you listen to? I've found that most american brand splits eg. phoenix golds have a deeper mid section and lower highs, the japanese eg. alpine/eclipse seem to have very good clarity and most the european ones eg. focal have a richer warmer sound to them (good for jazz or classical music) IMO anyway,

as for the eclipse 3 ways i don't think many retailers will have them on boards yet due to the fact that they are brand spanking new from eclipse.

Personal opinion: if you listen to a wide variety of music i recommend the alpine F1s, I have never been happier with anything else i've tried. Very crisp highs which i prefer i like highs so much i had the PG splits for rear fill and mounted the tweeters facing me which gave me good mid fill at the rear and more highs.

hey man, nice setup on the woofers, and doesnt sound like you need any more bass from your splits, you just need total clarity and SQ. Something like a pair of Focal K2's which is an awesome speaker can be had for about $600 and you WONT be dissapointed. If ever I replace another speaker in my car, it will be coming from the Focal Catalogue. I can vouch for these babies. End of the day though mate have a listen to splits in car audio shops and whatever suits your ears and budget, get them. Eclipse is also a very nice speaker and a lot rarer than most car audio brands. And if you can afford it, go some sound deadening material in your doors for the install, makes a nice diff.... Good luck mate

yeah im gonna get the box sealed because i want nice tight clean bass from these subs, apparantley the phoneix golds are some awesome speakers but those ones are discountinued and its hard to get after sales service on these.
I listen to techno 99.99999999999% of the time and maybe some rap/rnb rarely

yes mtx subs are awesome but they need heaps of power to get the best outta them otherwise i ve heard of many people blowing these speakers and then saying there crap cause of it but trust there not crap at all get them in a sealed enclosure. If u can afford it go for the new seriers subs the 9000 they pump out an amazing 1000watts rms but be prepared to pay top dollar for one of those babies because quality dosnt come cheap ie sony Xplod :p

LOL if you listen to techno 99.99999999999% of the time i definitely recommend japanese speakers, since the PGs are discounted just go with them they definitely look the goods.

These are the alpines i'm talking about just incase you wanna have a look, the crossovers can literally be tuned without having to buy extra parts and they are huge as you can see they're bigger than the speaker itself hehe.

http://www.carsound.com/review_archive/spkrs/ALPINE_SPX-177Ap.jpg

Not saying that the focals wont play techno I've tried focals too and yes i love them too, it's really up to personal taste when you're going high end speakers. They'll all have pretty close build quality in the speakers and crossovers.

GOOD LUCK with the choice let your ears and grin guide you :D

no no the PGs aren't the alpines, i have a set of the alpines can't remember the rms but it's the flagship split system from alpine so they should be pretty high. Find a local alpine dealer where you live in brisbane it's northfield car sound, not sure for melbourne

this is a review on them. Couldn't find them on the alpine site for some reason. Maybe on the american site tho.

PGs = phoenix golds, sorry for the confusion.

11-07-2005, 04:09 PM
ohh yeah I actually looked into them they are 300 wrms!!! but as u said they are runouts and after sales support and replacements will not be easy to come by at all so if they blow after warranty then Ill be pretty fcuked, but theyll sound sweet but ill have to run a 600wrms amp just for two speakers only 200wrms less than my subs lol! :D

kOncept
12-07-2005, 11:08 AM
LOL yes you could run that much power to them but you don't have to an amp with about 200RMS should be suffiecient, i'm not sure whether running them at 300rms would be any good since the splits will be on high pass cos you already got a sub. If your dealer is sayin you need an amp that's 2x300rms go somewhere else he's just trying to make money off ya.

as for blowing the splits i've never blown a set of speakers the only case i've heard is where stockO speakers blow, but that's due to too much distortion from too little power eg. using just the head unit speaker outs and cranking it too hard. so if you're running a decent amp then you should be right.

i was listening to the top of the line infinities at hi fi supermarket and the sounded quite good I really liked them there around 700 bux but ill get them down for sure
their 100wrms. I rememberd in my previous ride i had the jbl 2 way splits and the sounded mad the where pretty crystal clear also so Ill go and check them out and compare those also
