recently (2 days ago) got a set of stainless steel headers and cat installed on my teggy. anyway after i drove off i noticed thats theres a hissing kinda sound like theres a leak.. i so went back to the workshop and he couldnt find any leaks and he told me that the sound is probably coz the headers are new and they take a bit of time to carbonise..

anyone else had this problem ???

Is it a hissing sound like the sound a cai makes? Its also not uncommon for headers to increase engine noise such as the slight hiss of airflow or the infamous honda 'tick'.
Have a sniff arround the engine and see if you can detect any slight exhaust odor.
Or clean your enginebay, then check the engine bay a few days later and see if there is any carbon buildup arround the piping which can suggest a leak.

my headers were whisting after i got them installed. Took it back and they found that the flex joint they installed was faulty..

What brand headders did you get? and what type 4-2-1 or 4-1
the internal drag and flow inside the headders could be causing this...

FR33K

its an xforce 4-2-1
hmm its definately leaking.. coz it sounds like my old carby astra with a hole in the exhaust

how do you find the fitment on these hedders do they come close to the cross member? would it be impossible to fit 4-1 without modifying the cross member

FR33K

depends which cross member you're talking about... theres one that goes from left to right ? well im almost positive you will not be able to fit 4-1's without cutting into it slightly.. but the 4-2-1's fit fine.. although i did have to remove the brace that goes like in the front to back direction. when u look underneath you'll know what im talking about.

I have JDM ITR 4-1 headers and the hissing noise is normal, it's just the airflow.

I too was confused about the noise and I too took my car back to check it and it was a-ok, the noise just takes some getting use to.

FR33K, i got my mine done the other day and had the same problem...

Where the collector was extended to reach the cat, one of the weld spots had a tiny leak. We just re welded and it fixed it no probs.

Can you tell where exactly the hiss is coming from?

my car has that hissing noise, it sounds ugly i rekn, but i took it back to the exhaust place and they told me its just the design of the header (xforce 4-1) and yeh, i thought it was a leak but yeh, i also got a second opinion on this at another exhaust shp and they told me the same thing

i had the exact same problem.... i had a major hissing and whistling sound and it ended up being a faulty flex joint....
after it was replaced it was sweet az...

i think thats just generally the noise an x-force header makes... i had one on my car and it hissed and i thought it was a leak aswell... i had a 4-2-1

yep
i got the same problem

xforce 4-2-1 .. it really ****n pisses me off. its kinda like a hissy buzzy sound in the lower rev ranges. i had collector modified tho with bigger flexpipe etc. so yeah. i was considering heat wrappint the secondary pipes, and the collector or some shit. maybe that would cure the sound ?

i dun exactly wanna get used to the sound. i am serzly considering getting another header just coz of this noise!

i got xforce 4-1 and get the hissing sound. sounds mad like a turbo spooling above 3000 rpm haha

before it was worse though it mad ea buzzing annoying noise hen i chucked in a 2nd resonator in my exhaust system and its cleared it all up.

Preludacris did u try doing that? i cant remember waht u did when i was talking to you about it, but the 2nd resonator cleared up all the buzzing and annoying sounds. now im left with a nice sound.

Ive got 4-2-1's on my gsi and mine hisses from about 5000rpm onwards to redline not sure if its that or the SRI (sounds good though) i do have a nasty buzz as well but that starts about 3000rpm.

Hm, my 96 vti-r also hisses. wish i knew why.
Only happens when im at low revs though and is most noticeable in 5th.
Used to happen on my mates prelude too, before he got an exhaust.,
But the exhaust was so loud that it possibly just drowned out the hiss.

Sounds exactly like an aeroplane 'cruise' noise.

cars stock besides a pod.
But the sound was there before i put one on anyway.

its just echo in the runners, much like the hiss of a cai.

i think its pretty commen, a few guys on teh fourm also has that nosie on their tegs after the header went in, and i think they were all xforces aswell.
i got my xforce 4-2-1 in my car and it also makes that nosie. :(
