hey hondarenos,

if i get an eg i wanna out a new engine in it, but atm im kinda confused about which engine to put into it, my friend has a prelude i think 88 model :confused: with a b20 engine in it, so i was thinking if i grab his engine what would i need from the b16a and all the cost of this to be done?? what others do i need, ecu and what else?? i searched this but not much about it, thanks :thumbsup: :D

Ok thats a really long sentence, maybe u should try and rephrase that a little.
I think a newer worked b16 or h22 engine is going to be a much better alternative to a 17yo frankenstein engine.
Also engine swaps have been covered in great detail on this forum, advantages and disadvantages of each listed in great detail.
Why not have a search?

i think u should just drop a b16a in there.. will be able to pick one up for around $2500 - $3500.. and around $1000 - $2000 labour.. u should also change your brakes n a few others costs will be involved

on this forum look under the "civic/crx" section.. there should be a thread near the top of the page called "B16 FAQ" give it a read :)

for frankenstien conversions also try searching "b20vtec" ive recently been doing some research on it

no probs dude..

common EG swaps are..
1. b16a (as mentioned above)
2. AUDM b18c (little more expensive than the b16a, better torque)
3. JDM b18c (little more expensive than the AUDM b18c but a better engine)
4. h22a (very heavy but very quick in an EG, expensive and difficult to fit)
5. b16/b20 conversion (lots of torque, not recommended b20 isnt strong enough)
6. k20a (very very expensive, like 10k+)

very basic runover of some of the swaps available so u can search on each of those engine types and learn a bit more about each and decide :)

also..
b16a usually found in some del sols, JDM EG's, EK VTI-R's etc
AUDM b18c found in vti-r integra's (DC2's)
JDM b18c found in JDM integra type-r's
h22a usually in preludes
k20a from the newer integra's (DC5's)

ummm if u put the same money in a d series engine that you would spend on a b16.... im sure u could make up the 30 or so extra kw a b16 gives u.....

You have ditched this idea but I would just like to clarify. The B20 engine you’re talking about from a prelude is not the B20/VTEC engine. This is the black sheep of the B-series. It is nothing like the B20 you need for a Frankenstein conversion. None of the galleries line up with the B16 head (plus a bunch of other problems).
You need the B20z or B20B from a CRV.

Just to add to the "don't do the b20 conversion" argument, its actually illegal to put an engine into your car if it's older than your chassis.. I'm pretty sure thats in terms of both years and kms.

im still yet to acually find in the rule book where it says you can't do this.
plus that B20 engine cant be used for a B20 conversion anyway. Only the 99-02 CRV motors work.

Just rem the B20 is not as reliable and will be harder to engineer & insure
