Hi all, i am just wondering if any one know that DC2R gear box and gear are harder or the same as EK4 gears? do they made of different materials ? What i know is 98 spec Dc2R gear box have the same 1,2,3 gear comparing with EK4, and EK4's 4th and 5th gear are closer than DC2R, coz EK4 got 4.4 Fd and dc2r got 4.785 Fd which needs a small gear on 4th and 5th for fuel econemy. Dc2R also got LSD..

Thatz what i know, anymore?

Cheers

pretty much correct..

slap a 4.7 or even 4.9 final drive in the b16a box and you will have 1 tight box!

Nothing beats a tight box;)

would changing the final drive change every gear ratio 1-5?

Sorry about the questions i new to the world of final drive...

I always thought the final drive changes the complete gearing, 1-5 either making them all closer or further...

If the ek4 has same gearing as dc2r in 1,2,3 with ek4 having fd 4.4 and DC2R 4.7... if i change ek4 to fd 4.7 would mean that ek4 has really close 1,2,3 closer than dc2r and 4,5 same as dc2r??
is that correct..........

it will not change the gear ratios
it will only make the gears seem shorter, because the drive is bigger, which = faster accel

it will feel taht the gears are closer b/c u run out of revs faster and need to change gears faster

ie change at 80km/h compared to 90km/h from 2 to 3 and so on

changing each GEAR eg 345, will bring each shift back in vtec (if you are changing to a "close ratio" setup
eg right now when u shift 3-4, u will drop out of vtec
with a close ratio setup, you will always stay in vtec, thus the power zone

however once again, changing to a close ratio gearset is a very expensive option

I think he also wanna know if dc2r gearbox could handle more extreme conditions, some of the gear ratio between ek4 and dc2r are the same but actually they are in different part numbers? The gears in dc2r gearbox are bigger?

1st gear is diff part
the rest are interchangeable
type R gear bits are same material as normal

Nothing beats a tight box;)

in that case JDM would be the way to go..
pretty much all JDM boxes would be tight ... haha

Very lucky, my ATS 4.929 final drive and all my gears are still good, but the diff and the housing are completly fuked.

What i am going to do is to get a LSD to replace the diff, but the LSD must fit EK4 Final drive. I am also thinking of going close ratio 3,4,5 ATS as well.

But i might only do 3rd and 4th. as with 4.929 fd with close ratio 345 gear my 5th gear 8000rpm can only go up to 170km/h. which means if i am driving on the freeway with 110 my vtec is already on.

What are the advantages or disvantages by putting close ratio 3 and 4th with normal 5th?
