Hey dudes, my sister is now driving my 1984 Civic. She's discovered that suddenly no-one sells Lead Replacement anymore. It's a new law isn't it?
Anyway, you reckon she could drive on premium and not damage the engine? Would it need the additive every tank or maybe every 5 or 10?
It's gonna cost a fortune if she has to run with a bottle of additive in every tank!
I had a '79 volvo and ran it on premium. Actually ran HEAPS better than LRP.
Give it a shot i say.

THey have taken LRP away from most pump stations, the only place in WA that i can find it is at Gull stations, and they only usually have one pump of it. Price has gone up aswell. Try runnin on premium or get some decent octane booster i.e one that doesnt comprise of just leaded petrol.

Use premium (can's us regular coz leaded had an octane level near that of premium and won't cope well with the lower rating) but add the little bottle of additive EVERY tank otherwise the valves will end up falling to pieces in a couple hundred kms..

Just use normal unleaded and add a bottle of additive and it would be pretty much the same price as LRP

I believe that at BPs website they have a listings of cars (i got the list before from there) that are able to use Unleaded fuels without a porblem. Have a quick look you might not need the LRP

The ValveMaster website recommends that you DONT use ValveMaster on post 1972 Honda Civics. :( Not sure why.

you can just get a kit like flash lube or something, its just an additive that is injected straight into the carby, lasts for ages and its only about 20 bucks a bottle. the kit itself is only around 100 bucks then you can run what ever fuel you want. i had it on my old ta22 celica

the valve master website simply tells you if it is needed or not. so in effect, what they are saying about the post 1972 civic is that its not recomended because it doesnt need it.

viv.. only use it with premium fuel as ordinary unleaded has a lower octane than that of leaded fuel.
you can either use the additive as the kit or use a upper cylindar lube. which works out to be about 1ml per 1L of fuel. 500ml of upper cylindar lube(flashlube or nulon) is about $13
you will also find the car will get much better milage and will run better on the premium fuel
also the additive cannot hurt the car.. no matter what the site says
for example say you put 20L of fuel in the car and you squirt 25 mls of additive in the tank too its not going to hurt
also it doesnt effect the fuel in any way other than lubricating it.

Dont worry about it! the car is so old anyway and seriously how long is she gonna keep it for? my guess would be a couple of years max. by then you and any future buyer is not gonna know any difference. just make sure you use premium cos as the others have said bout the octane rating, you dont want any knocking. on the plus side pre-85 cars are getting very cheap now- good for conversions....
