VTEC or no VTEC - has nothing to do with your need for octane. Your compression tells you that. The higher your compression, the higher octane you need to prevent knock. On a stock VTi, RON95 will be just fine.

usually cars from factory are tuned to be able to be used with crappy fuel, this is due to the shit fuel thats avaliable in some countries that cars are shipped too, and people wonder why japan gets more power :P better fuel!

I've seen some cars rated as low as 90 or 91 octane!

Remember that RON ratings vary from continent to continent. If the engine is USDM, it can take everything. They got the crappeist fuel in the world. Europe on the other hand, has the best fuel there is. Most Honda engines has KS's, so it will retard the timing if knock is detected.

Ron (minimum) 95

As stated in the civic manual pg 108 "If you are unable to find premium unleaded petrol, you may substitute an unleaded regular petrol. The engine will compensate for the lower octane, but you may notice a slight decrease in power as a result."
