hey i have just graphed the results from the short ram intake comparisons and the Cold air intake comparisons which appear at http://www.tprmag.com/issue/1/1_intakes.shtml
The car used was a acura integra gsr.
The graphs are of the gains over stock of each intake on the same axis.
So, a positive gradiant ie. / would mean that there is an improvement over the stock airbox at that rpm.
a negative gradient ie. \ would mean there is a decrease in improvment over the stock airbox at that rpm (however not a decrease in performance unless the line goes beneath the horizontal axis).
so here are the graphs.
CAI

SRI

***note, graphs may not be 100% accurate, human error can occur, however all efforts have been made to represent the correct data.***

What's with the final power surge on the AEM SRI just after 7500RPM??

So does this mean that a SRI is better overall then a CAI? meaning non brand dependant?
I would have thought SRI would kinda be crap cos of the hot air in the engine bay?
or am i reading the graph wrong?

from that data yea, except, when the engine gets warmer sri don't make much gains due to heat soak, therefore overall cai is better.

thats a huge spike in the sri graph, but the comptech cai looks very consistent

As its now time for me to get an intake. Does anyone know where i can get a comptech CAI from??
Or an Ac Auto or DC DAC SRI from?
Havent heard of any of these, but they look good on them graphs.

injen 2pc will give you greatest max kw.
on a dc2 around 7300rpm is where max power is reached, so what ever the largest gain is at that point will be the maximum kw.
ie. injen 2pc will give you 143.9bhp, comptech only 142

I wonder why the Injen 2 piece is so superior to the 1 piece? Does anyone know?
I assume the Injen 2 piece they are referring to is the IS short ram intake with the EIS cold air extension???? While the Injen 1 piece they are referring to is the RD CAI??? I would have thought that the 2 piece would have been exactly the same dimensions as the 1 piece, except for the join of course, but is this not the case?
As well I think the test was done on a Civic....

I dont really want the max kw, i mainly want gains at lower revs....

The under hood temps of a moving car are not what people make them out to be.
what a pain in the ass when trying to decide whether to go for SRI or CAI.
it probably seems that for the daily driver your SRI seems to make sense. Nice power increase for a "run" or two, until you're flawing it non stop all the way home... then the heat from your engine bay becomes an issue.
IMO CAI is more expensive and more risky. Factors being wheather ofcourse ( rain and shit getting in ) and say you go over speed hump to quick or train tracks and your car is low .. if you hit that CAI hard enough isnt there risk of damage going back to your throttle body ...
Air your thoughts peoples coz i really want sum kind of Intake ... just dunno whether to go for SRI or the full CAI !!!
* not a fan of the mugen and comptech boxes....yes nice gains but $$$ and not as loud lol
