I just got a cat back exaust fitted. It's an Apexi N1 Replica exaust.
Its abit louder than i thought and i was wondering if there is a way to test how loud it is.
In the cabin it's quite loud around 4-5rpm.

Resonator.....put a resonator in the center on the exhaust system this usally fixes the 'drone' sound at about 4-5k....

I think the legal limit is 120dB at 3/4 power.

120dB? That's pretty ****en loud dude. To give you an example, an Amuse Powerhouse R1 catback (No resonator and no cat) is around 120dB. I think the legal limit is around 95dB or so if I am not mistaken?

hmm yeh u might be right, maybe that was the stereo output.

ITs definately tested by being 1m away with a db meter and 3/4 of way to red line. 90 does sound more realistic though.

You should hear my Duc...each cylinder has an individual 50mm straight through piping. Car alarms go off when I ride next to them. I wear ear plugs when I ride. LOL.

Isn't loud cool? When my Civic's ready, I have a spare N1 exhaust specially for midnight runs around housing estates..Wahahah!

got a letter from the EPA:

i got the same... welz the letter... had to put a stocky on and got 87s... 88s... i was wayyy too loud b4... :p

basically if you want legal you gonna have to go back to stock... silencers and valve controllers dont work!! personal experience

that 90db is also measured 1m away from the tip of the exhaust and at and angle of 45degrees from the angle of the tip

the graph of db's is expidential (spelt wrong).....each 1db higher is like double the "loudness" of the previous

ie a normal conversion level is 60db....but double it to 120 and it's a jumbo jet taking off

yeah the limit is 90db..

lolz n if i remember correctly from year 12 physics...120db (or was it 140..) is pretty much approaching the pain thresh hold barrier...

i tried filling my muffler with stress balls :p (coz we found a garbage bag full a while ago)
it made it a little quieter but then they all got spat out.
stock system is the only way to beat the system

Also is it just me, or does n e one else find it slack, that someone can just ring a dob u in if they 'think" ur exhaust is too loud and then u gotta waste ur time/money to prove yourself innocent?

Lucky i know the guys number plate who dobbed me in

i am having that problem too...
it's way to loud, for those cannon mufflers..so that's why i've got a silencer..which is good.
if u put an extra resonator in there, it may not work...also it's sht..it stricts the airflow..so wat/s da matter...of getting one? or just dont get the cannons..just IMO.

bleh, i don't want to get pulled up by the epa, i'd have to cut my exaust out to put the stock on back in.

In Victoria the legal limit is 90db at roughly half redline plus 1000 rpm? I'm not sure on the exact formula.
But cannon exhausts are asking for a EPA notice. Get resonators, silencers (EPA won't consider silencers when testing unless it's welded on) or the APEXi EVC I think it is. It's a valve which you can adjust in cabin to reduce it up to 8db or so.

When the current owner of this car was cruising thru a shopping centre 1 nite he got pulled over by the polece and had a test to measure the sound levels coming from the exhuast. When the coppa said for him to rev it cause it was nite time. The sheer lowness of the car and the sucken in dash he didn't rev it as much and already it registered 110db just @ 3500rpms he didn't even go hard @ it either. Which he told me as being 90 is the limit. So the dood took it back to the exhaust shop to add a muffler.
