im just wondering wats the transmission on the vti 4 door ek, cause a friend of mine told me its triptonic and doesnt come in manual, just wanna
confirm with you guys.
also this is proberly a silly question, i just want to know when vtec actually kicks in, as in after how many revs on a vtir ek
thanks
1. i don't think honda ever made tip tronics apart from F1 cars (flame me if im wrong here) so its either manual 5 speed or auto
2. im not sure on SOHC vtecs but in the b16a its 5500 rpm with redline at 8000.
peace
The auto's in the sedan either came with a 4 speed auto or a CVT transmission.

Yes. Never seen tiptronic but manual I am 95% sure is yes
Not all VTi's comes with SOHC vtec, i think only the coupe's do actually.
the sedans come with d16y5 's.

The VTi Sedans all come with SOHC vtec's, it's the GLi sedans that don't have vtec.
No, honda don't do triptronic. I probably would assume your friend said something about CVT. Continous Variable Transmission or something in that line, where the engine remains at a particular rpm and the gearbox continously changes ratios.
vti-rt, its not the case. I sat in one myself today while looking at cars with a friend. Grey 98 VTi sedan with a d16y5, 30,000 on the clock, perfect condition, i opened the hood and confirmed what the rego said. No VTEC!!

so is cvt only with the ek vti manual or autos?
im still wondering if they come in manual?
CVT only came with the EK shape VTI sedan.
CVT (continously variable transmission) is like a one speed auto. Its not tip tronic or anything like that.
Not too good with the VTI sedans, although it seems that you could only get either a 5 spd manual or CVT in the VTI sedan.

Too my knowledge ek, your correct that the VTi Sedans only come in 5-speed manual or CVT auto only.
Weq, the fact that it's a VTi means it should have vtec... the car must have had something shifty done to it....
GLi - 1.6 ltr sohc non-vtec
VTi - 1.6 ltr sohc vtec
VTi-R - 1.6 ltr dohc vtec
Dude, i though the same, but this was stock as a rock.. its engine code was d16y5! It was a bog stocker, i looked at the engine bay and the screws looked fresh and pie. i thought it was odd also, but the rego just confirmed it!
edit: heres proof. the sedans came witht eh y5, the coupes (cause they were made in the US) had a y8
