Hi everyone,

Was just wondering if the Faq's for swapping a normal Ek4 halfcut parts into a Ek1 would be the same as using an Ek9 halfcut into an EK1.

A mate of mine said that it would roughly take 2 days to swap all the stuff over, dunno if that was including the console and dash, would that be about correct.

One last thing, whats the rough selling price for and Ek9 half cut these days. Any one know any one that has them available?

Any help would be apreciated, as im gonna try complete the swap, with a few friends and myself.

Thanks

ek9 cut goes from 6500 and up (full cut)

we have 1 full cut with everything you need and 5 lug brakes

but you are way too far from syd..

with that cut would it include all the panels and head lights, oh yer would the half cut also have the sensor for the climate control (if the EK9 has climate control)

why not b18c? it'd take the same amount of effort...

last i heard the b16b is more "aggressive" in terms of its cams... but then again.. b18c would provide more displacement..
why not a b16b+b20b(strengthened block)?

why not a b16b+b20b(strengthened block)?
too much money involved to make it run efficiently...

i reckon just go b18c man.. bang for buck suggestion... :)

yer i had originally wanted the B18C type r, but i spoke to a honda mechanic from perth (I think Gavin's his name from Cypher industries), and he was telling me it is alot easier using an EK9 half cut for the swap, less custom stuffand modifications, less headaches, cos i only have an EK1.

plus this is my first type of project of this scale so im trying to make it as easy as i can for myself.

Form the people on Ozhonda i've spoken to it seems as if $6,500 is the normal going price for a Civic Type R half cut, but has any one seen the ad's in Hot4's, Fast 4's and other mags like that with place's saying they can sell them for $5,000, but when you ring them up they're like um no we dont have any.

Gavin's a nice guy..and he specialise in hondas....went there a couple of times 2 get some things done to my DC...
personally i tink getting a EK9 1/2cut is v.rare and pricey yet doesnt give u as much power as u get frm a JDM DC2R 1/2cut...if im nt wrong..the B16B only makes 10hp mre than a JDM B16A which makes 170hp..do consider...mre displacement = better:thumbsup:

Yer more displacent is good, also been thinkin about the price difference between a normal b16a and the b16b.

but like i said before everything from the ek9 is a straight swap bolt out bolt in,
spoke to an importer in perth today, hopefully he wont fall thru.

B18CR will be bolt in. only thing extra you'll need is EK4 engine mounts

furiou5
26-08-2005, 09:10 PM
anrt the axel's n stuff different, will the radiator aircon and all that crap bolt in too?

There is a reason that Spoon makes a stroker kit for the b16b.

Now just for your info, yes B16b has more aggressive CAMs but it will still make less power due to smaller displacement. You should go B18c.

Both have the same block (as the b16 has a destroked b18 block) wiring is identical. Seems to be the case with all B series.

I would say that they would require the same amount of work.
The only difference is it might be cheaper get a 1.6 engineered and insured.

why don't buy a b16a halfcut than mod it.
like change aftermarket cam and ECU.

CONAN
27-08-2005, 02:24 AM
hmm i guess if u got the funds then why not?
it would be a nice conversion
then again, u gotta follow with all the other necessary upgrades that comes with it

i have an ek4, and would LOVE to have a b18c7 in it.

furiou5
27-08-2005, 02:24 AM
thort about that, black ek, but if i wanted a b16a civic i'd have just bought an ek4.
like i said was after a b18c r, but was advised it was easier to use an ek9 half cut

CONAN
27-08-2005, 02:26 AM
otherwise, turbo is another cost effective option!

jklo
27-08-2005, 02:28 AM
But considering the fact of swapping a b18c to an EK, it would make the car more difficult to handle because of the extra torque. I was pondering on the same thing too. Whether to get a B16B or B18CR. I have spoken to couple of ppl and they say the B18CR requires abit more work. Also swapping the B18CR, you will have to mod the suspension also the rims. THat will cost abit.

CONAN
27-08-2005, 02:34 AM
Coping with the extra torque wont be that bad, there isnt that much extra torque down the line, but if you were talking turbo then yeah guess there will be more bottom end power
Anyway, i say a set of good coilovers will fix the problem.
What do you think?

jklo
27-08-2005, 02:40 AM
hmm... I better do more research first b4 making my decision. Ahhhh... bloody engineer's cert and registration. This is a going to be a pain in the A$$... better rethink again whether B16a B16b or B18c

CONAN
27-08-2005, 02:43 AM
Engineer cert is to stop you from getting defected, or pretty much a way out to stuff like that.
But if your car remains stock looking, and everythings honda honda, it would be really hard to distinguish the difference unless the police was honda gurus ??

jklo
27-08-2005, 02:46 AM
yeah... but you see i am in victoria. Worried about getting into trouble and stuff. what if i can't get engineer's approval... also what do i tell vicroads about the car. "erm operator, it's a 1.8L civic".

furiou5
27-08-2005, 02:51 AM
also the engineers cert aint just to deal with cops its for insurance.

If you dont let them know you've changed motor and got someone to check it out they'll try stooge ya.

what colour is your car? you could make it a ctr replica!

furiou5
30-08-2005, 01:32 AM
my cars silver so yeah i could make a replica, i was looking at trying to get the boot off the ek9 too as they dont have a rear wiper, plus maybe have a type r wing. Got a mugen front bar waiting to get sprayed too.

Anyways all thanks for all the support, cant wait for the results too.

Im hoping to get it all fitted and running within a month of the halfcut landing, but you know shit never is done in the time frame you make.

However there's a little something something extra, that ya'll will have to wait and see when its finished, i have a feeling some wont like it tho

However new news has come to light, for a little extra (told the importer i wouldnt make the price public) i've decided to have the whole car sent over.

Now i have a huge problem, rip appart a prefectly good civic type R and make a replica, or keep the civic use it for motorkahanas n track meets, and drive on permits.

big decision to make before it lands

The customs people have been cutting cars in half lately. Unless you get a race permit it won’t be aloud to leave the docks in 1 piece. id just transfer everything into your car.

PS: race permit requires L3 Cams licence not something that’s cheep or easy to get

As long as import approval has already been done it shouldn't be a problem. JMS in Adelaide had a rx7 that came in as a full car for "parts" customs made them cut the car in half.

I did look at importing an ek9 for a track car but the information that you had to provide to dotars was just stupid and you had to provide proof that you were currently active in motor racing already.

Best thing to do is call your importer and ask if the car has import approval already and under what sort of approval it’s coming into the country

furiou5
01-09-2005, 11:03 PM
yer i spoke to them today, the price he quoted me was out of the docks.

Currently im working with Quit Targa West, lots of the people involved with organisation, race other events, plus my uncle used to race Targa Tasmania.

:D fingers crossed no problems arise
