got a question for you guys ... it's about qtr mile racing

Went to heathcote a few weeks ago for a few runs down the qtr

I was running consistent 110 plus mph ... topping at 116 mph for the day but
could only manage a best time of 13.8 secs..

What am I doing wrong cos that mph should give a much better time?
Was running slicks as well... at 16 psi

I'm sure there are guys here that have run these mph before.... or more ..
Any tips would be greatly appreciated ...

GSI-PSI

think hes talkin shit EG5. THis times pretty much impossible on a so called "slightly worked" motor. Fair enuf the B18c is in a CRX but still it cant happen.

Sorry man but i didnt realise that ya car was turbo. In that case you need 2 learn how to drive cos i managed 2 get a 13.9 without slicks on a stock gsi with turbo on 7psi

Hey GSI-PSI

My car is NOT turbo mate .... never has and never will .. NA all the way :)

I've run a 13.6 before with less power ... so something else must be wrong ... hmmm

Hey I can vouch for Big red, its not turbo and those were the Mph's he was getting.

Phil, its really in ur 60 foot dude, i think its ur suspension setting, sorry I couldnt get around to helping ya out, I didnt get much time running between friends, but with the MT's you could easily drop those 60fts down much lower.

You remember the 2 tegs? They were sitting on about 2secs flat with street tyres, so theres about 0.2 of ur time at the start, esaily worth 0.4 at the end.

EG5
16-07-2005, 11:34 PM
Na all the way with nos?
something is very wrong with your time slip , it is super hard to do over 110 mph , my fastest mph is only 109.53.

big_red
16-07-2005, 11:42 PM
Hey Eg5 .. definitely NA all the way .. no NOS...

If the mph was too high once then I agree but went over three times over 110 !

What are you launching off the line with your slicks? 6,000 rpms? 7,000?
I tried all sorts of launches but no good ...

any ideas?

EG5 - mate .. what type of clutch are you running? still holding up?
With 8k launches you must damn quick / good wth the gear changes! :)

Hey Pornstar .. didn't get much time to get to know you blokes on the day - maybe someother time. Yeah, the think launch is the problem as well.
Car may well be too low as well - gonna jack it up alittle ..
Maybe like what EG5 said .. I need to launch even higher??
Don't know if my clutch can take it! Clutch didn't feel right at the end of the runs anyway ...

EuroAccord13 - thanks mate. Like your car ... sweet ride
actually thinking of getting one as a daily driver :)

Hey GSI - PSI ...
yeah alittle disappointed I guess with the time .. will get down to heathecote again soon for more testing

mods are cams, springs, pistons, ecu ... needs more tuning

phil i dunno if you know but oshi's (from crxaus) b18c gen2 got 13.7 with the previous owner (spooky)

Panda CRX - cool. another 18c crx .. remember to upgrade your brakes as well! there's a few around eh. Where are you? Melb? I actually got a ITR halcut and transfered as much gear across as possible.
---------------------------------------------------------

Hey EG5 ... I wish ...:)
My aim is to break into the 12's ...
Prior to the latest work. I was doing a 13.6 on standard internals, intake and header & exhaust mods, slicks. Was getting a 1.9xx 60ft time then ...
Car's really put together for track not drags but Im curious as to what times I can run...
I can't get a clean launch .. either bog a little or bunny hop everywhere!!!!

its going alright - and yes - the car is getting done - slowly!

Phil, your mph is enough for 11's as someone mentioned before. Ur rpms are way too low for your launch, check your suspension settings.

With the street tyres on the tegs, they were able to launch at about 6,800 rpms, so you should be launching above that.

big_red
19-07-2005, 10:38 AM
Sinstr - Hey Mike ... yeah .. kinda miss the motorplex with it's smooth surface and facilities ... tracks over here are a little rough
Give me a buzz when you can ...

Pornstar - how's it going ? Mate I wish for 11's !!!
Yeah .. thinking about it I was launching on average at around 5500 rpms and the highest I tried launching was 6500 rpms...

What clutches were the 2 tegs running? can withstand the constant abuse?

pornstar
19-07-2005, 03:43 PM
Phil, with my 12.3 pass when i had the civic, I launched at 7,200 rpms, with MTs on you should be launching about 8k rpms, but surely ur suspensions need to be tuned man.

To give you a better idea, when I ran 12.3 on those street tyres, the Traps were about 119mph, and I still had more in it, just couldnt control all the wheel spin.

The clutches on their cars are custom made for me to a really simple design, that works. They handled the abuse fine :)

Hey Phil,

How are your radius rod bushings?
Mine were screwed and used to result in a lot of wheel hop when launching.
Fulcrum have them for about $50. Or you could look into making up a new crossmember and radius rods with spherical bushings.

big_red
20-07-2005, 09:18 AM
Hey CRX_16x ...

Not sure about the bushing ... never occured to me to change it actually...
I've seen some aftermarket cross members that sell in the US that supposed to help with traction ... but they're pretty expensive .. I think it's by a company called Z10 or something?

I'll lookup Fulcrum anyway .. thanks.

If you can weld, or know somebody who can, there is not much to them.
Here is a great thread on honda-tech http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=957387

You can buy rod ends at http://www.m-msport.com.au/MotorsportComponents.php?MenuItem=Suspension_NRE%2 0Rod%20Ends

EG5 does EGk20a run a full race crossmember?

you mentioned that you're slicks were a bit too tall and you got a bit of scrubbing - could this have affected your 60"?

with decent suspension work, some bars on the back and 1.5x 60foot, that will be a mid 11sec car.. good work.

big_red
20-07-2005, 07:21 PM
mugsee - never !!!! I will never go over to the dark side .... Lol

Online - hmmm... stop giving me ideas !!! Lol
The missus is already on my case :)
BUT ... when you say suspension work... you mean ... get drag specific suspension? Any tips.. advice?
Running tein HA at the moment. Have not had a chance to get the settings right yet... not really sure what the optimal settings are.. guess will have to play around a little

Also .. is there a difference between running 13 vs 15 minch slicks?

Thanks

pornstar
20-07-2005, 09:43 PM
phil ur tien HA wont be helping much, thats why ur 60foot times arent so good.

a better suspension alone woudl net u 0.35seconds at the 60ft. You can see the difference just suspension alone makes between the 2 integras.

Big_red,
I'm really confused. Not doubting you just confused?
Can you give us the full spec of your car. From what I'm reading it sounds like you have a mildly modified B18C (type R) in an EF CRX weighing 1050kgs and it's capable of running low 12sec passes. It just doesn't add for me, even a mid 13sec pass doesn't add up. What's your secret?
