I'm not sure if this will cause power loss but using gasket of the wrong thickness changes the compression of the car.

I.E : Thicker gaskets will make the compression higher and vice versa...

good Catch Benjamin, The thicker gasket would give lower compression but im sure thats what you meant. Looking at your situation id put two and two together and realize that your power loss problem might be the reason your car isnt starting.... So theres a few things that need to be checked and the mechanic should check them for free if he just did your head gasket. Power loss could have been anything fuel or spark related, even throttle body related, not sure what your mechanic would be doing with that, but hey you never know. My guess would be check your timing and spark plugs.

"it wants to kick over but wont.. the noise coming from it is like there is a kill switch active...." Had a similar problem on my del sol. Check to see if your spark plugs are firing. Could be the leads, could be the distributor, could be the spark plugs. I got my money on the dizzy though...

check your water and oil. maybe the head gasket isnt sealing.

Simple, The mechanic did the work, obviously they did something wrong and it is their fault.

Ring them and tell them, then get the car towed there. They pay the tow fee and fix your car.

Where I used to work this happened and the owner had no drama's paying for a tow fee to warant his work. Provided you use a half decent shop there shouldnt be a problem.
