I drive a 94/95 Honda Civic VTI 1.6L 4 Speed Auto.
Cruising down the motorways at 110km an hour, the rpm needle hovers around 3300rpm - 3500 rpm. Is this too high or its normal because these engines lack torque?
What RPM does you car rev to when cruising at 110km?
this has got nth to do with torque... its the gear ratio... thats a normal RPM

as earlier... its gear ratio... normal as the final drive isnt as long as maybe other cars u're not used to it...
going 100km in my integra on 5th gear is around the 3000rpm range
and i've just noticed you posted the same question on forums.overclockers.com.au

ACTUALLY... it IS coz our engine have no tourqe.
if they had tourqe like a V8 the final gear would be a diff ratio allowing your do do around 2ooo rpm at 110.
But for these cars, yes that is normal

Mine sits about 3000 to 3500 rpm when driving at 110kph

Doesnt this also have to do with what gear you are in? Doing 100km an hour in 4th will give you different rpm then say doing the same speed in 5th.

Yes it does also depend on what gear you are in...

Hmmm. So when it is said that you are running xxxx rpm at 110 km per hour I assume people are talking about in their highest gear right as this would make a fairly considerable difference.

Hmmm, yeah my EM1 is around 4000rpm or more at 110km/h. Drove 700kms home from Brissy at 100 to 120 ish though with no hiccups at all, if you read the actual car manual, I think it says the "optimal shifting point" is around 4000rpm on my car anyway (correct me if I'm wrong). But yeah my car is stocko so if that's what it does, that's what it does.
If you don't like the revving, fit slightly bigger wheels.

I've got about 4000 on my tacho at 110 too. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting that lower. I don't want to change the diff ratio cause I still want the good acceleration. I'd like to see 3000 or less on 100 (currently 3500), but I don't want to see 2000 when I'm doing 70 (and I don't want to use 4th either).
