Hi,

I was thinking instead of buying I-pod to connect to HU, what about PDA or phone like Sony Ericsson K750i, as both have USB and have memory that I can have like 1G full of Mp3. Would liek to know can it be done.

Yeah man, thats a really cool way to do it! Just use the AUX port on the console. Myself - I'm holding my dime for the W800i.

Invest in one of the MP3 CD player would be good enough I reckon.

I think Ipod is worth the investment cause the quality of sound are so much better then sony ericsson phone..I have k700I and i listen to mp3 with it but the quality was so bad that i went out and brough a Creative Muvo 4GB mp3 player instead..:D if ur consicence on the quality of sound den Ipod will be the go but if u just want all in one instead of carry load of stuff in ur pocket den yea Phone

i'm going to put my h6365 into the jazz
aux input (kimo i'll find doc for the aux input and email it to you)
a proclip holder with charger
it's gonna be a lot better than ipod because it has bluetooth, wifi i can load songs directly via laptop or change memory card, and also have the phone function of the ipod going through the speakers. comes in handy also with bluetooth gps sat nav and watching pocket dvd too
everything should go in the car in about a months time for me!

w800i = k750i wif 512mb mem stick duo + flight mode (use as mp3 player wif phone fucntion turned off). not much else different aside from the exterior and "W" walkman logo.

i've got the k750i, farken best thing i've gotten ever (til my next gadge of course ;) ). i've got sum mp3s on it and the play back quality is pretty good. i think it also comes down to wot headfones u using wen it's a portable device.

but if u were gonna hook it up to ur car, you'll need a standard 3.5mm headfone jack on ur fone. most fone's dont, so u'll need a jack/adaptor for it which i'm not sure if it's out yet for the k750i. most pda's have the standard jack, so u can just stick an FM transmitter to it (but i've heard that quality aint so good on them, sounds like radio)...

but personally, like others said, i'd just get a mp3 cd player for the car if i were u. It saves on connecting wotever u got (fone, ipod, pda) everytime u get in da car, having an extra power adaptor/cigarette lighter, and do u need 10,000 songs at ur disposal on every trip? :p mp3 cd player is convenient, cdrs/cdrws r cheaper then chips now and they're slowing bringing out dvd car stereos that read mp3s - ie 4gigs of mp3s on a disc = mini ipod crap ;)

now that's just hardcore. duno if the general music listener wants to spend 800-900 bucks on a pda/fone device + extra on memory, 3 times as much as a mini ipod, if they just want music for the car :D

what cable you need to connect I-pod to HU

i hook up my laptop or my ipaq... imo plain mp3 players like ipod/iriver are waste of money...

few extra $$$ gets u a basic pda with more functionality ... and if u can spend more then gives u more options (wifi, gps etc)

bear in mind the pda wont have as 'good' as sound from the headphones as the ipod, however pluggin it into the car stereo is just as good as playing it from the cd thou ...

u can get a tune cast adaptor, which u can use ur radio to 'tune' into wirelessly... or if ur stereo has a aux input get a 3.5mm pass thru cable

alpine's 2003 range have an actual ipod adapter that lets u hook up ur mini or normal ipod and u can scroll thru songlists via the head unit. i think pioneer have also released ipod compatible head units.

else, wot kenshin said... via aux in on ur head unit or an fm transmitter, which basically can work with any device (laptop, pda, md, mobile, etc)

if u r buying an ipod, avoid the minis. I sell them at work, and have had so many returned faulty, they should be outlawed. Also ipods have no features and cost more than many other better brands of mp3 players. All you pay for is the name.

Irivers piss on them for value and features!

well i use my ipaq h6365 as a phone and pda for work as well - when i leave my car i take it with me. so it's not just for audio purpose.

i did compare the ipod vs ipaq for car audio, imo as previously quoted, functions wise ipaq beats ipod hands down even with older version ipaq.

plus i use the the ipaq in the car for sat nav anyway, so the aux input for audio is actually a bonus function for me anyway :D

they sound quality on the K750i is heaps better on it than K700, the quality is better on the W800i than k750i although they are the same phones inside.

to make the k750i sound like a w800i you have to convert the handsfree to a 3.5mm audio jack, buy headphones such as ex-71sl and upgrade the k750i firmware to w800i firmware, but the firmware is not necassary.

though i have a k750i, ipod and pda (xda mini) i choose the phone as a personal walkman and ipod for longer trips, for the car i use the pda and ipod, pda for GPS navigation and ipod as the music player if i dont use a mp3 cd.

the sound on the k750i, ipod and pda sound all the same so the better option would be is to get a pda phone such as a O2 XDA II mini, HP iPaq H6365 becuase you can use them as phones, pdas, music, videos, games and last but not least GPS navigation.

The quality ofthe sound on the I-paq and how much memory does it have.

when i had a iPaq h2210 it sounded better than the ipod, the ipaq have 64mb user memory + 1 gig sd for $135

He speaks the truth, my friends and I have had some much trouble with mini's its not funny....

The larger ipod's are no better anyway, they scratch easy too, iv given up on them anyway, there more hype than actual use.

If You Want Something Good, I Personally Go For The Iriver (ive Got A H10) Its The Best... Its Not As Sexy As The Ipod,, But Works Much Better,, Built In Microfone That And Sense Up To 30meters (good For Unit Lectures).. And Plus, U Can Feel Safe On The Battery Life Unlike Ipod (change Every 18mnths)..

If you're after sound quality, I wouldn't be looking an an iPod. The response is pathetic, and distortion is VERY high. Like most consumer audio players, it has an emphasis on 'sick **** bass'. The quality would not be far above a K750.

iRiver players have a very nice flat response. Jens of Sweden make some good mp3 players aswell, but they are hard to obtain in Australia.

Thanks for the advice.

Anyway, pardon me for high-jacking, but is it true that the iPod photo 30GB has been discontinued? And iPod and iPod photo are one and the same now and available in 20GB and 60GB only (not 30GB)?

If so, are there any differences between the previous 30GB and the 'new' 20GB and 60GB's iPod photos?

Cheers!

I am getting confused, maybe just stay with my HU cd.
HAHA, i bet u are... i'm probably one of the fellow gadget freeks who understood it :p

basically to summarize what they're saying

- audio quality of personal portable devices are very similar between good quality mobiles, pdas and mp3 players.
- if u get a pda with gps option, u can use it as a music player in your car, as well as for navigation. u need additional mem of course (standard about 64mb inbuilt).
- if u want portable mp3 player option, u need sum kind of adaptor for your car. an fm transmitter (works like a radio station, crap quality) or cable of sum sort would do.

but for a noob, i would say stick wif your cd/mp3 cd player as that would help. if u want a portable player too, get an additional ipod/iriver/wotever.

pda/phone/gps? only if u need it... cos your looking at close to $1k all up for that kinda setup.

btw, i sell ipods/ipod minis at work too... and imo they're shit. all bling/name crap... we've had many returns too. and i still cant c the point of having 10,000 songs at ur disposal. view foto's? wot the hell for? and to SiR yeah, apparently the 30gig photo and 20 gig ipod has been replaced by the 20gig photo. ur on the net, google mate.
