I really like it. Inside looks really good. (Tiny wheels though)

Does anyone actually know the expected release date for this yet? Coz if its anytime soon I might just put my car hunting on hold and wait ;)

Looks so...european...kinda reminds me of a renault or something, theres one car out there that looks similar shape to that just cant put my finger down on it. Its OK I guess, wouldnt get one though.

I think Honda has gone down the path of "Vanilla Image". I.e. mitsubishi did it unsuccessfully with "the nose" and BMW with that look. Its sorta sucks, cos all the cars are starting to look more and more similiar. Some may argue this, but individuality amongst cars within a manufacturing brand is going.

IN MY OPINION: The 5-door is a bit ugly - looks like a Renault :thumbdwn:

I am in love with the 2006 Si Coupe Concept and got to thinking what the 5-door CTR might look like.. so I started to photochop a pic of the 5-door and took the Si's Bumper, wheelarches and grille and then added a few EP3 touches.. it not a very good 'chop shop job and it's incomplete (u can see the fender doesnt line with the bumper and i havnt done the rims etc) but it's a work in progress.. and just wanted to post it when I saw this thread..

http://images5.theimagehosting.com/2006_CTR.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

my point being that I think the clear-plastic (Renault style) grill could be ditched for the Si version.. or any open-mouthed grille.. the front bumper is easy to imagine a new item (I used the Si Bumper) but what I'm trying to say is that I think just a new grille makes the car look MUCH more aggressive.. I havnt even lowered the car in the pic either.. dump it 2"..mmmm

That interiour is totally awesome; the HUD-like speedo must be one of the best ever. And how cool is the bigh tachometer?
Glad I traded in my 02 Civic hatch for a Euro already - don't think this new one will do its value any good. Hmm. I wonder if they'll do any of these in a hybrid version, it'd be the perfect inner city car.

From TFA [Dutch is similar enough to German - I hope :)]. There's three engine types, first of all a diesel engine where the most powerful of which has got 140 horse power [around 105-110kw], 340Nm specs doing 6.4l per 100km - NICE! There's also a hybrid and a "Type R".

Wonder what will find its way over here. Also interesting is that the whole car is smaller than the previous, but the boot luggage space has gone up from 370 to 456 liter. Clever.

[Hm, now 1 post away from regular status...]

Nice chop, VT3C!!

I read on a website the Type R will get 185kW. There will also be a Type S with 147kW to compete against cars like the VW Golf GTi etc.

Yeah, the throttle looks big, but that's probably the same size as many other floor mounted pedals.

Very funky interior, but I don't expect to see some of these neat little touches on the base models at least.

Yep buttons reminds me of s2k. The pedal, is that really a pedal? I saw it and its like wtf so i thought naa couldnt be, maybe it just looked like it hand gear stick but it was really an auto...And yea HU, gonna be alot of work just to get an after market HU into that and especially since the display is on the dash! If you were to replace the HU then what happens to that display? Gonna be a big massive empty black screen.. :thumbdwn:

Just when you thought that Civics couldn't get any uglier - they scrape this pile of dog-poo off their shoes.

I'm glad I'm not a Honda fanboi anymore. My next car will be any manufacturer other than Honda - probably a Nissan.

I'll keep my EF9 - it's a real Civic, as were its predecessors and the EG and EK - but these monstrosities are just plain fugly.

**Ghost**
31-07-2005, 10:27 PM
i think this confirms the civic's direction as being a overall bigger car... the EG/EK sized civics have been replaced by the jazz... unfortunately (no offence to jazz lovers btw) that car got no balls

Honda announces all-new Civic for Europe

Honda Europe has issued the following press release:

Honda Motor Europe Ltd. today announced the all-new, eighth generation Civic for the European market. Wider and lower than the out-going model, the Civic retains virtually all the emotional styling characteristics of the concept car shown at the Geneva Auto Salon in March 2005. This new model will make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005 and sales are expected to commence in early 2006.

Launched to the world in 1972, the Civic has undergone many evolutionary changes to maintain its position as the most successful automobile to be built by Honda, accounting for roughly one-third of total Honda sales worldwide. The current seventh generation Civic is built in 11 countries and sold in 160 markets around the globe.

The forthcoming eighth generation Civic promises to change on a revolutionary scale and will attempt to set new standards in the highly competitive European C-segment, particularly in the upper quality/premium sector.

The concept car shown in Geneva already revealed Honda’s intention of moving the Civic into a sporty, emotional, and fun-to-drive direction. Key to achieving these qualities is the wedge-shaped forward cabin with lower vehicle height, wider width and shorter length.

The overall length is now 35 mm shorter than its predecessor and overall height, 35 mm lower. But, in order to create a more dynamic silhouette and a better handling C-segment car, Honda decided to increase the overall width by 65 mm and the front and rear tracks by 34 mm and 45 mm, respectively.

Despite being shorter and lower on the outside, the new Civic is actually more spacious inside. The interior features the “Dual Link” concept, in which important driving information, including vehicle speed, is displayed in the upper part of the instrument panel, while other information is provided in the lower part. This design allows the driver to concentrate on the road while receiving vital information, enhancing the easy-to-operate and fun-to-drive character of the car.

In terms of utility, the rear seats can be tipped up to form a second storage area in the rear passenger cabin. The rear seats also have a one-motion, dive-down feature that instantaneously create a flat loading space. The total volume of the luggage compartment is quite impressive, with 485 litres, thanks to the centre positioning of the fuel tank. The cargo floor can drop down to reveal an under-floor compartment. All this flexibility translates into a hidden versatility not expected in a sporty looking car.

There is a range of three different engines to choose from: a 1339cc 61kw/83 PS petrol unit, a brand new 1798cc 103kw/140 PS petrol unit or a 2204cc 103kw/140 PS diesel unit. All of them are combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox making the new Honda Civic the first car in the C-segment to be equipped with 6-speed gearboxes across all of its range. The petrol units can also be equipped with a 6-speed automated manual transmission.

All Civics are equipped with ABS and, for optimum performance, Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) which adjusts all wheel brake effort to achieve maximum braking performance and stability. The new Civic also features, across the range, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) designed to assist the driver in maintaining control during cornering, acceleration and sudden manoeuvres by applying brake force to the right or left hand wheels as necessary and managing the throttle and brake systems.

Passive safety has always been paramount at Honda. The new Civic has an innovative seat belt reminder system for the rear passengers and both the front seats are fitted with double pre-tensioners. The active front headrests have a decisive role in protecting the passengers against the dangerous whiplash injury.

The expected result for the Euro NCAP crash test for this Civic is 5 stars for front and side impact safety, 3 stars for pedestrian safety and 4 stars for child protection safety, making it one of the safest cars in its class, especially considering that it has the shortest front overhang in the C-segment.

being new i-VTEC design i'd say it's the 'pain-in-the-ass' option but arguably, it's actually a better configuration when you consider airflow, heat dissipation and also direction of intake and exhaust charge, not that THAT really matters.

but I know what you mean, plus it's nice to have a sexy header or hair-dryer staring at you in the face when you pop the hood ;)

Don't know if anyone realise this, but this hatch will not be arriving in Oz in the near future.

The first reason is that this hatch is design and built specifically for the European market, and as per Honda President Fukui's 2005 mid term speech re the Civic (copied below), Oz will only be getting the 4 door sedan.

•"The all-new Civic was developed with four body types to meet the unique requirements of each region. For the Japanese market, an emotional and stylish sedan which goes beyond the concept of the traditional Civic was developed. For the U.S. market, 2-door and 4-door types were developed, while a 4-door was also developed for Asia and 3-door and 5-door types were developed exclusively for Europe."

Copied from http://www.world.honda.com/news/2005/c050720_a.html

Second reason is that no Honda Oz automobile product is sourced from the UK, where the hatch will be build. It will take a lot of time before any sort of relation is established so Honda Oz can import cars from the UK factory.

Third reason is the exchange rate and price. By the time the car arrives in Oz, it will have to retail at close to 30K for the base model. Let's face it, not many people would pay 30K for a hatch, let alone a 1.8L one. And around the same price range there are other great cars like the Mazda3 SP23 and base Euro, which have much bigger engines. Honda imports the 4 door Civic Sedan

Don't get me wrong- I love this hatch. But the fact of life is that Honda Oz do not think the car will be selling in any great volumn to justify the importation. Honda Oz is strifing for volumn and market share, and only want big sellers like the Thai built (no duty) 4 door Civic sedans that they can sell bucket loads at 20K.

**Ghost**

sigh... so do we get the "emotional" sedan or the "focked up boring" sedan?

I think it will signal a sad era for Civic fans. :(

man the sad era for civic fans started when they introduced the 7th generation civic's and negrected to give australia the K20 powered EP3 (hatchy) or even the mighty 1.7L D-series coupe.. even Thailand gets a K20 sedan and we get SOHC junk.

AUSTRALIA WILL be getting the new sedan, WONT be getting the 5-door hatch, and MAY be getting the SOHC i-VTEC coupe.. IF we get the coupe at all, but i'd say our chances for a K20 coupe in MY2007 are pretty good if they axe off the Integra for asutralia which I predict they will.

if HONDA only brings in the sedan I think a LOT of potential buyers will move to other marques.
