Intakes such as the Injen/AEM short ram and CAI's are loud from my experience. If you are after a loud intake, definately don't go for brands such as Comptech and Mugen which are enclosed air boxes. If you are interested in Injen, PM me for further details.

lmao wazza!!! keep selling it.
yea i think most cai's would be the loudest as the air has to resonate againts a steel pipe from down low to up all the way in the engine bay.
Injen all the way!

why you want loud?

I was after that ssssssss sound aswell LOL
IME you only hear it on idle.. and the vtec roars when you have an aftermarket intake.
Ssssss only comes in turbo unfortunately :(
Edit: Btw, its more loud with a SRI rather then a CAI.

You want an intake with a bad stutter or its falling asleep?

yeh wtf is ssssssssssssss?
Also, short ram is louder than cold air.
With the filter, I'd choose the apexi power intake...I had the simotas, they aren't as loud/nice. lol

if you want sound just rip the cover off the air filter box and expose the pod, my girl friend got pulled over by cops cause her car was too loud after i had just taken the cover of her air box, and its a lot cheaper than buying new pipes

I just bought a k&n filter, they are on special at autobarn and it is pretty loud, yes, you can hear the sss when you put the foot down

Yeah just take off the airbox cover and see how you like it. I doubt it can be much louder than that. As for ssssssss sound I've known K&N to do that but only at certain rpm under a certain amount of throttle.

Although I can't find it now, I can recall reading an integra specific article showing that removing the cover from the stock airbox actually leads to a decrease in power. The article provided dyno comparisons to back this up as well. From memory it was a fairly significant decrease in power. Sorry I can't find the article, but what I am trying to say is that I don't recommend removing the cover......

yes it does. I was missing the top half of my air box when I bought my car. Was sucking too much hot air from the engine bay in. anyway, much better now with cover on box.

That's correct due to hotter air going into engine, I've experimented with both and it's not gonna lose you a race though.
The other week I decided to take off my bumper to completely remove the inlet pipes and resonator etc total weight 2kg. Placed cover back on air box and drew air in from bottom of box instead of a few inches higher in engine bay, pre vtec sound was a bit rortier than with no cover at all but seemed to get quieter on vtec and could hardly pick the sound transition.
Engine was noticably more responsive from off idle take off, then in third gear from 7500-8200 felt an extra surge. Note this was a very cold day approx 10deg.

I found that most stainless CAI make the 'seeeeeeeeeeee' noise,
Not the short ram tho, it seems that its a little to short to make the noise.

im guessing that we are refering the 'sssssssss' sound as the sucking noise the intake makes on idle

I have a K&N pod and its really loud, when you go on the gas slightly theres hissing then when you floor it all you hear is a roar.
Its as loud as a bloody exhuast at times....the good thing is that when you are off the throttle sounds like a stock intake. I love it, wouldnt mind trying out the 'whale penis' haha that thing looks cool.

ill take a photo of what i did to my intake.
i ran a 15.6 with the cover of and a k&n pod in box minus cover, no other mods in a stock gsi.

Do you want noise or a defect???? Be careful u might get hit with a defect if the SRI isn't enclosed...i would recommend a comptech IceBoc or a Mugen CAI as there enclosed....ie no defect:)

in regards to removing the stock box, i would agree that it would decrease power. however i read in the g2t forum that removin the bottom half of the stock box and screwing the actual filter to the top end of the box would give that sound ur after. i done it last week, and it seems to be giving of a deeper sound. i just bought a simota pod, so well c wat i can do with that.
cheers

i take the top of my air box off on my stock honda filter and here the ssssss lol, i dont think it really matter what brand, u should just grab a stainless stell pipe and put a decent pod filter on it,,, but still more performance coming form a cool air intake, if u set it up right

I dynoed my car with the airbox cover off and airbox cover on, back to back. The difference was 6kw at the wheels throughout the whole graph, which is pretty significant- that was with the bonnet open and the fan blowing into the engine bay, so heatsoak wasn't an issue either. From seat of the pants feel, i'd say the difference would be even greater than that in hot weather.
I think it may have something to do with the airbox and ducting adding up to being closer to the ideal length...

IVe got an injen intake, when cold idle the car goes KSCCHHHHHH" sounds like a small jet engine :P....
Then When accelerating and going into VTEC the intake ROAR Drowns out my exhaust and is just :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Wouldnt that exposed pod suck in too much hot air from the engine bay?

nah its alright... theres a huge circular hole to the left of it just out of frame that blasts in cold air. should help negate any hot air problems

was that 6kw loss because of having the cover off???

i had half my cover cut of and took the shroud and stock air pipes of to draw air through that hole your talking about it worked!!.
but now i got a complete cover made up my own pipes out of water pipes, to go from bottom of air box down to behind the front bumper to draw air away from engine and radiator, put a k&n in my box sealed the box completely so it only draws air from pipes.
its dead quiet compared to before but you can feel a big difference.
specialy after 3500 rpm when it realy picks up

my simota is rather noisey . sssssssssssssssss
i was thinking about getting the K&N pod that fits straight into the stock air filter box. do uz reckon thats the best bet or go for a full cold air intake setup??

Good start.
Get better KnN pod leave box and remove resonator and put a CAI pipe from teh bumper up.
I find this method better than open pod in engine bay.
yeah theres a hell difference with the box lid off compared to on especially on hot days. it sounds good but performance goes up shit creek.
