Hello ppl I came close to buy a hatch EK civic, however when I did the REVS check I found out the car used to be a repairable write off. How bad would the crash be, is the car still worth buying (The car is substantially cheaper)? Thanks heaps.

First must I congratulate on doing the REVS check and the write off check too, very wise.
Without knowing how substancial that discount is, I'd stay well away from it.

if your plans are to push the car willingly in the future, and want to modify the car. then i would steer clear (drag, the occassion track day whatever...) but if your are a nanna driver, then id be close to MAYBE consider it.
being a write off, some form of structural damage has been done. find out exactly where it got hit and how bad.
either way man, try and avoid it.

Agreed, I would be staying away from it too. They are never the same after a major crash. For it to be a writeoff there would have been some significant chassis damage. And unless it was repaired at a really good place, you will have alignment issues and other hassles that make it not worth it.
I would also be questioning the safety of a chassis thats already been damaged
But  For getting the backgraound checks done. Better to be safe than sorry.

steer clear. its not a one of a kind car so why buy a dud out of the thousands available? The reason insurance companies write cars off is because repairing them to roadworthiness would cost more money than what its worth. Just find another.

write off doesnt always mean the cars in a bad accident or anything, you can get a car thats written off but its not been in an accident but its stolen and recovered. Not really related to this topic but just letting you guys know

Thanks a lot guys, I think it’s best to stay away from cars like that. And once again it makes me realize the importance of doing REVS check. I never took it too seriously; I was actually too lazy to do it I told my gf to check it for me over the net, and the valuable info came up.

Thanks for that. That car however was in an accident, I could tell from the engine bay and the owner told it was a minor hit, nothing serious. Lucky I checked.

this is true, insurance tried to write off my cousins car when someone keyed it. (i know what you're thinking, wtf???) they keyed every panel so the whole car needed respraying. End of the day iuunsurance payed for the respray after much arguing. Anywho, what this means is that there IS different reasons for cars being written off, but most often it is accidents.

You could take it to a panel beater and they should be able to identify what was repaired. Also you can have the alignment checked by pedders for 14 bucks. That’s if the discount is worth it.

As I said, no body here but you know's how cheap your getting it, if it is an absoloute steel and biggest bargain in the wolrd, take it, but a minor discount the risk just is not worth it

Was going to say a very similar thing. Dont they write off integras if the recaros get stolen (simply due to there replacement cost)?

i wouldnt think so. the cost of replacement recaros is not even close to the replacement cost of an ITR.

I dont think so. Check this thread --> http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20748&highlight=write
I think some insurance companies have been known to write off the cars before due to the cost and the amount of time required to actually get them.
Take my advice i was goin to buy a civic b4 this and it had the same thing repairable write off wen i chekd it on REVS
it turns out wen i took it to my panel beaters, ther was a $3000 hit Unrepaired just touchd up...upto u take it to ur panel beaters or else dnt go near it :P

its best to stay away from this car unless you can be bothered getting a full safety inspection done! might just be worth it...

insurance companies will try and rip you off, honestly. They will write anything off that they will have to go to more than minimal effort to fix. reffers to cousins paint job above. Just takes a bit of arguing.

Guy’s lots of cars get written of from just the cost of repairing cosmetic damage
But why take the chance :p
Tho if its hell cheap and you can find out what type of damage it was, then maybe its worth it!!!!!!

I was gonna get the car for about 8500, it's a 98 gli with 100000. So i guess it's not that much cheaper.

"i wouldnt touch it wit a ten foot clown pole..."
i knw a guy who repaired a car that was a "repairable write off"... lookd good from outside but he told me the car was so crookd the front bumper didnt fit on it n panels were heaps hard to line up... that car wouldnt hold up very well in another accident
as for the insurance companies payin out integras for stolen recaros... ive heard that its with dc2r's n depends on insurance company. my mate had his car stolen recently n they stripped all the interior (prety much left bare metal inside) n paintd a smiley face on d bonnet of his dc5r and insurance company gave him a choice of wirte off or pay out...

not worth it at all.. that price is crap anyway.,
safety first man. plus you dont know all the details no matter who looks at it wat you read etc... take evryone's advise and keep looking .. youll be ALOT happier in the long run, especially if the chassis has been knocked about etc,.
GL in the search. it will be worth it.

haha yeah man thats not a very good price for a gli in good condition. Id pay 8 max for a gli (which is what i did! :p ). I say look for a better car than the gli, it doesnt have too much power and isnt exactly too sexy lookin either.

I have got some pretty big plans for this Ek gli, as my last car was a 200sx and got stolen, so I have a bit of money to play around with. I have been looking for a gli for 2 months, their prices are farking ridiculous, very hard to find a good one with reasonable price tag.
Anyway what car would you guys suggest if not a gli ( am I supposed to start up a new thread for this?). Thanks again guys.

EK coupes are starting to drop in price (10-12k mark). They come with electric windows and SOHC VTEC motor (slightly more power and wiring is easier for swap).
If you’re after a hatch just keep looking one will come along.

But after the insurance company writes off your ITR, they can go and sell it at auction. And cars like that tend to fetch a premium price at the auctions. That is why they will try to write it off.
