I guess anything can be done for a price, but don't see the point of going to all that trouble when you're way better off with a B or K series transplant, IMO.

Hi guys i have done this to the d15b7 block, placing a d16y1 head onit, cost wise it worked out to be around 400 for parts, 350 for head rebuild and milling and about 400 for labour. Placing on dyno soon but u can feel the gains, well worth it for some one limmited on money.

oh ok... you rekon its decent to do ?
also can you hear the VTec ?

Jr

Its decent to do if your a student or some one strapped on cash. At first Vtec was realy quiet prob because of the re con head but after 5,000 km you can hear it, sounds nice jase.. need and help just pm me or email.

pm weq, i think he still has the head fomr my old engine.

Jr

ok jase here is the cost for me. donor d16y1 motor with ecu, gearbox and hanness = $400 (pistons rings where gorn), after taking head off i got it re con that was $384. Now if u can do it at home or a mates house labour will be nearly nothink. But it cost me around $450 from my mechanic (inc swapping gearbox). total around $1200 but it can be much more cheaper just depends on your money and other such things

Jr did u have to get wiring done. i.e. for vtec engagement or is it all mechanical, and ecu will pick it up

I just left my old haness on, and ran the 3 wires from the vtec solenoid to the ecu. Works fine.

does the vtec sound like the DOHC ? or a lot quiter

Weq
31-07-2005, 11:04 PM
its quiter. alot. The advanatge of a MIni-Me is not only vtec BUT u gain compression! a mini-me is faster then standard stock vtec engine.

i have a vtec head but the rocker assembly is ****ed ;) u can have it for cheap if u can find a rocker assembly for it.. :)

ur better off buying an engine and gearbox. complete. MRJDM has one for sale, he'll prolly sell it for $600 or so. that will get u a VTI gearbox and spare block to build for boost. plus u get all the sensors and dizzy and everything to use for spares!

d16y1 d16y8 will use dif ecu? any probs with fitting a y1 head to a y4 block and using a y8 ecu?

man look up mini-me conversion, just basically bolt on a y1 or y8 head and a few other basics

B & Ks are just easier for parts and produce a bit more power not really worth the 4-5 grand when you can slap a turbo in there ... for that or more....lol i been on that subject for so long and plus the D engines are cheaper ... i think aza picked his y8 up for under a grand not every one has a shit load of money for a convertion and.... the parts to make it go quicker.. just thought id ad my 2 cents

lol yeah i dont have the biggest tech knowledge around but even i know a turbo D has potential ... and its been proven ... i remember reading about a 400+D in the states and if you say it runs over a 14 you got problems ... if its done right mate it will work even i know that

there are 11 second d series out there, probable even faster

d16y1 d16y8 will use dif ecu? any probs with fitting a y1 head to a y4 block and using a y8 ecu?

You would need the y8 dizzy with the y8 ecu. The Y1 has a different cam gear to the y8 also.

You can use the Y1 dizzy with the Y8 ECU but you are better off making it OBD1 for cheaper tuning options.

so as i just read ,

with my EK 1 civic , all i need is a vtec head which is of a d16y1 or d16y8 then what about compresion would i need to change my pistons ?

also what power gains would i take advtanage of ? would it be about an extra 20KW with stock everything if so then w00t

also what about ECU ?

by the way ive been reading and googling mini me for weeks and still dont understand it , well all i see it as is get a d16y1 or d16y8 head + gasket + bolts and get it re machined and built then pop it on ?

i did it to mine, currently without boosted setup i can hear it but not as clear as a B cross over. with boost u can still hear it but it really doesnt sound like vtec anymore. took only a day to do, alright power gain for the price u pay
