QBALL's Return...3/4 Completed (56k warning)

Well, it's been a bloody long journey, but I've made it!
I finally got me car back last Saturday, and my GOD i was happy!!

I went up to Newcastle on the Friday night, just to catch the last bit of work on me car, and i was geared up for the dyno tune on sat morning.

Saturday morning came, and i was soo excited when i saw her rolling again!
We took it to a place in Maitland, bout 30-40mins north of Newcastle to get it tuned.

Basically, the car is tuned for everyday use now just so i can wear the engine and the clutch in more. Whilst on the dyno, the guys noticed that it was 'spiking' - due to the fact that the wastegate was too small for the turbo.
Because it was spiking, the car was wheel spinning on the dyno, which was quite odd to say the least. Everytime the guy floored the accelerator, the car would start spinning.
The turbo that they ended up fitting onto my car was a t3/t4 hybrid highflow.
Due to this fact, and the reason that my internals, clutch etc werent worn in as much as it shouldve been, they ended up putting a boost cut in at 12psi.

So at the end of the day, they werent able to get a MAX output figure for the car - they advised me to wear in everything for about 2000kms, and then once i get that milage clocked, to go back, and get the wastegate sorted out, which the mechanic is organising for me.

From the data which they were able to get from the tune, at 5000rpm, 1/2 throttle, it produced 220hp at the wheel, which is about 165kw atw.
The potential for me car is quite amazing, it'll be able to handle 25psi and rev out to 9-9500rpm - CANT WAIT FOR THE FINAL OUTPUT!!

Running your engine in on 12psi of boost hmmm well I guess everyone has there own theory on how to run a engine in … but yeah that’s not my way ;-) but well some ppl say if it hasn’t broken already .. it won’t break …just keep changing your engine oil with good quality mineral oil every 200 – 500km !! if you wanta be nice to your rings and let them bed in….

As for your car wheel spinning, tell the dyno operators to tie down the car correct, tieing the car into the rollers, dyno’ing FWD car’s can be challenging but easy if you know what your doing… either way 150kw you should have zero wheel spin.

What happened to your front bumper bar support panel !!! OH NO get that back on your car now.. one front end hit and say buy buy to your cooler, radiator turbo and manifold, reinforcement is there for a reason, and it also ties the front end of your car together, modify it to fit with the cooler, and reinforce it if you modify it.

As for your Wastegate being to small that’s utter crap ! its more to the point of the Wastegate being a totally CRAP no name brand, which are very well known to boost spike, have broken diaphragms, and weak springs that give way due to excess heat. The Wastegate is a COPY of a Tial 38mm Wastegate, if you buy the original you will have zero problems. I run a Tial 35mm which is 3mm smaller than yours !! and it holds 35psi all day every day with zero boost spiking ;) remove that no name CLONE / Copy Wastegate and your boost spike problems will decrease…. Some of the spiking could be because of the shitty Wastegate placement not equally bleeding off all 4 runners of your exhaust manifold.

Also make sure your oil sump drain is working, the fitting on the oil pan looks a few CM to low…. Its very important to get this fitting in the correct place ….to low and the drain will not work… and your turbo will start burning oil very quickly because oil can’t escape the turbo…

Apart from that I highly suggest upgrading all the clamps on your cooler pipes to T bolt style clamps, 25psi on those clamp’s will not hold you will be blowing cooler pipes off all day every day….. the T bolt clamps give a much better seal / clamp over the silicon preventing cooler pipes from popping off.

b/w I just noticed you have vacuum hose going to the top port and bottom port on that crappy Wastegate, you do know the top one is used to “add” extra boost via a boost controller, by supplying vacuum to both your effectively trying to push the Wastegate to be in “full boost mode” all the time its not fully clear from your pictures but double check that.

it was replaced due to the faulty turbs that we had b4 hand.

Bout time there was another GSI turbo on ere yay :wave: haha. Well u beta get down to melb man cos i wanna see this thing in person but im pretty sure as hell that id lose to any drag against ya haha oh well. And im wrapped that ya havin so much long deserved good feedback with the end result man. Keep up the good work and start savin for new rubber cos those 18" tires aint gonna last long hehe :D

good to see its going so weel qball good outcome man , in regards to my car i have headed in a different direction , i sold my old manifold for scrap metal lol , i am going with a log style manifold , not as pretty but alot dam stronger than the obx or ss autochrome items, also leaning towards ditching the to4 hybrid for a faster spoling ballbearing item , but at this stage the engine is sitting in my shed waiting waiting for me to get my act togeather a prep the cars brakes an suspension proberly for the setup
i think you , gsi-psi and myself should organise a meeting and have a battle of the gsi some time later in the year , o yeah do i get do use nos or wat?????

well after the final tune i only plan on running like 8psi daily...
im really serious about taking this car to eastern creek etc etc so yeh, the time to use 20-25psi will come

pipings fine guys, it LOOKS low, but honestly its not...like ive been sayin, the number plate is the lowest part of the car now, which should b rectified shortly
