Hi Yall,

About to purchase my first car since the last one left me for honda heaven. Had a 96 VtiR Civic (B16A).

Question: How would a Semi-Automatic Vti-r Prelude feel/peform/handle compared to the Civic (which was a manual)?

96 Vtir Civic (B16A) - 118kW Man
98-01 Vtir Prelude (H2A) - 143/7kW Semi-Auto

Can you control an Auto with vtec to rev where you want it to? etc..

Thanks Guys!! =) =)

if you want the real vtec experience, go for a manual. After all vtec is what honda's are all about :p

As for your other question you'd generally fine that the civic would outhandle the prelude, but in terms of driveability and performance there is really no contest, the prelude would win hands down.

the prelude would be more classier and its a cruiser..and would beat the civic hands down anyday...girls dig it more as well :D

get a prelude..its less common..but if you want manual get the civic

i haven't even test driven the prelude or integra yet but id definetely go manual over an auto prelude.

Slow and heavy... go manual, or find you will be left in the dust by the b16a... at least for the first few hundred metres.

going for tiptronic ai, i guess its prob the same as an auto except gives you the option of shifting the rev range. Anyhow, still slower than a manual.

if your going to leave the prelude 1000000% stock then tiptronic is fine.. if your thinking of even doing very very very very very light mods go manual... i would personally never recommend trptronic to anyone.

The tiptronic box is prone for problems, if you want performance, manual is the way to go, if you just want to drive it day to day, the auto box will be fine.

just get the prelude vti-r manual and u wont be disappointed!!
it has the speed n vtec ur after and also is a very smooth and luxary ride. I have never regretted since the day i bought it.

Yeah go with the manual. If you get an auto, an old 3rd gen manual would out perform it even if you had Vtec. The 5th gens handle very well, they're very quiet, comfortable, great torque. The VTiRs have cruise control, sunroof, climate control, 16" wheels.

3rd gens are still awsome man :) dont let us down! but i gotta admit, the 5th r smooth compared :D

Get the manual mate...
5th gen ludes had problems with the tiptronics....
I think they were all recalled weren't they? Anyone can confirm this?

kimbi

Does the tiptronic have a few problems? My delimma is that i would only buy an auto now (so my dear old ma can drive it! lol) so its either the Prelude or a Jazz out of my honda choices.

Get the manual dude! Everyone's just gonna keep saying that. This is my first car that I got over 2 years ago and I didn't even know how to drive manual at first, now I realize how good it is compared to the autos. Btw I'm talkin about a 3rd gen, and since your wanting a 5th gen just think how much better that will be.

^^ Don't think, DO! lol j/k But if you want more info go to Preludeaustralia.com and further info at Preludepower.com (US site though). IMO those two sites are more active than this site. Well in the prelude section that is.

91'lude
12-08-2005, 09:31 AM
Yep, preludepower doesnt have many 5th gens tho... www.superhonda.com has alot of 5th gen information.

They cost $18-25k for a 5th gen VTiR depending on condition, dont even look at a Si and make sure u get a manual.

s3ph
12-08-2005, 12:17 PM
thanks for the sites.... must say first honda ever laid eyes on was the prelude..

Yep, preludepower doesnt have many 5th gens tho... www.superhonda.com (http://www.superhonda.com/) has alot of 5th gen information.

wouldn't most of the info from superhonda be irrelevant? that is a US based site.

A dc2 isnt a type r. its a vti-r.

umm yeah i agree wif ppls wen they say get a manual
i got a tips and although i love the car, sumtyms i regret the fact that i didnt get a manual due to laziness.......but its not all bad wen ur in traffic u feel greatful u went for the auto
but it looks the same so if ur just cruisin its all good

luzinit
09-09-2005, 09:34 PM
ludes are nice n comfy cruisers. they by no means would leave a b16a in the 'dust'.... have tested many times. h22a vs b16a vs b18c, there isnt really much in it when all 3 are stock. but as a daily driver, the h22a would be alot more comfortable and easier to drive around town!

racinghonda

A dc2 isnt a type r. its a vti-r.

DC2R is the Type R of the DC2 series.

StrawberryFace
09-09-2005, 11:21 PM
If you were going to a refer to a Type R youd say a DC2R, not DC2.

End Rant.

StrawberryFace: The dc2 series includes the vti-r's as well as the type r's. You can say dc2 type r.

You just proved my point. You cant say DC2 and expect someone to think of a Type R...you have to either say DC2R or DC2 Type R otherwise people will think you are referring to a vti-r. :honda:

well when someone says R33 they can be refering to GTS, GTS-T or GTR.

if you're deciding between a prelude and dc2r
i'd go with the dc2r

CUL8R
15-06-2006, 10:45 PM
it does depend on what ur after, full all out race/performance, or a luxury cruiser, they are very different cars.

Tarks
16-06-2006, 12:10 AM
^^ I second that
I was contemplating between dc2r and the lude, a few things to note:
$$, dc2r > lude
dc2r sports car, lude cruiser
luxury, lude > dc2r
performance, dc2r > lude
handling, dc2r > lude in corners and such, but comfort of driving lude > dc2r
weight, lude > dc2r
both great engines to work with, but dc2r would probably be ur best bet if your looking to work the engine for performance, and lude if u want to cruise with a bit of power kicks when u feel like it

Couldnt have said it better myself. Personally im more of a fan of the cruiser, thats why I went the Lude.

19-06-2006, 05:17 PM
^^ You pretty much said it. The Lude gets nice little touches on the interior that make you feel like your in a more luxury style car. The interior of the dc2r really doesnt do much for me.

not that great, too heavy

20-06-2006, 05:01 PM
my bro owns an integra type R, i drive it occasionally and love the experience. if i were to get a prelude vti-r would i be disapointed with it overall after the type R?

Tarks
20-06-2006, 08:26 PM
like i said, performance the dc2r is better than the lude, so yeah u would b disapointed to a certain extent in a vtir lude when comparing speed acceleration and handling to the type r.
that said the lude still has a fair bit of kick in it so overall u wont b disapointed with the performance of the car considering its heavy and made to cruise and not race

Mrkrooz
21-06-2006, 01:01 PM
There two very different cars....when the DC2R came out Honda said all you need to do is put petrol in it and its ready for track....thats was the purpose of the DC2R...soley performance hence the engine setup + suspension......whereas the prelude vti-R was solely built for luxury and crusing..its still has a kick but mostly designed for comfort ie: sunroof leather seats climate control....It just depends on wot ure after....i think the prelude is a nice blend of both.......

I'm not sure if you've noticed this "bored" but there is no post count shown on this forum, maybe if you stopped spamming 1 year old threads less people would think you're an idiot.
